Hi! Got my date yesterday - 1/28/2020. Having RNY - Overland Park, KS (Bariatric and Metabolic Specialists; surgeon is Dr. Roger de la Torre). Surgeon said it's the best option for a newly-diagnosed Type 2 diabetic. Nervous, excited, everything all rolled up together for the life change! Pre-OP requirement -1 week liquid diet. I may have more pre-OP requirements when I see the nurse-practitioner Jan 16th.

Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am having VSG with Dr de la Torre on Jan 16. I just started my 1 week liquid diet. I found this at Walmart and they are delicious, but won't be able to have them after surgery for a while because they contain caffeine.

Thanks for the prep tips! 😀 I especially like the tip on changing your sheets before surgery, so your bed is nice and fresh when you get home. I have my Vitamins, Protein Shakes, and Jello, but still need to get broth, and I guess, GasX?? I plan to make some homemade broth before surgery and freeze it in ice trays, but I would also like to get some broth packets.

I'm having surgery in Puerto Vallarta during a family vacation and I'll be there for several days after the surgery. I've been stressing about what comfy clothes to pack for after surgery and for travel home and I found these dresses on Amazon. They are inexpensive, $18-$21 a dress, and I think they will be very comfortable, like wearing a nightgown! I already have 2 short sleeved t-shirt type dresses, so I think the 5 dresses, a sweater, a pair of Birks, and a pair of nice sandals will be my complete wardrobe for the trip. The only robe I have is a big, warm fluffy one, so I may try to find a lightweight wrap robe that will pack easy.

    Any other tips?

Clean sheets are nice, but my surgeon and for previous surgeries it is recommended to minimize germs. I have to shower and wash with antibacterial soap, hibiclens, the night before and morning of and use clean towels after each shower. Hibiclens is what they use to wash their hands prior to surgery. They are trying to minimize the risk of infection from what I understand. I am doing whatever my surgeon recommends as they are the experts.

  3. I have a bit of over hang and have some of the same issues. I have gotten some prescription powder, Nystatin topical powder, as doctor said I had yeast infection. If you can get to your doctor and have them document your skin issues. If you ever consider plastic surgery to remove excess skin insurance may cover part of it if you can show it is medically necessary. If doctor isn't an option I have used diaper rash cream and when rash healed I used Gold Bond powder.

  4. I agree with above posters. Why lie, if someone asks just say, "I had surgery," and leave it at that. If someone asks for details just stand there staring at them and say nothing. They will become uncomfortable and either change the subject or walk away. Put the onus on them for invading your privacy. If the have a decent sense of humor you could tell them that you cannot discuss it due to HIPAA privacy laws 😉

  5. Ask if your surgeon can use exparel. It is injected at the incision sites and does a great job in reducing pain after surgery. Just something to ask when you meet with them. Don't be afraid to let them know you have low threshold for pain. They will ask you on scale of 1 to 10 what your comfort level is that you can tolerate before you need pain med. For me that is a 4, but if for you that if it is lower then tell them that. If offered pain med take it! Don't wait until you need it as that will be too late because you will have to wait for it to kick in. Don't chase pain, stay ahead of it! At least until you have healed for a bit and are feeling comfortable.

  6. What is the reason you cannot get put to walk? Weather, medical reasons, cannot afford a gym membership? If you can get out, go to a big box store or any store for that matter and grab a shopping and start walking there. If you cannot get out due to medical reasons, then there are a lot of chair exercise videos out there as others have suggested above.

Nope, my incision is completely numb. I'm even sleeping on my side now, right on my incision. It just feels .... lumpy 😳

My tt muscle tightening doesn't hurt from sitting or leaning back. Up until a couple of days ago I just couldn't lay completely flat on my back. Little too tight, I'd have to either prop up my knees or my head.

Did you doctor use exparel on the incisions? I had that for colon surgery and my incisions were numb for a week thank god.

  8. You need to see a urologist. I have kidney stones and have passed small one with no issues. I had a large one, 8 mm. It caused nausea, vomiting and intense localized pain. Hydrocodone worked for the pain and zofran for nausea. Good thing is once it leaves the kidney there should be little to no pain, unless it causes a blockage. More than likely you will have a CT scan or X-ray. I had to do a 24 hour urine test where you pee in a jug to catch your urine for 24 hours to be analyzed to see what is causing the stones and adjust your diet from there. One thing is to add 4 0z of lemon juice to Water during the day. Citrate in lemon juice will help prevent formation of stones. But lemon juice is not a substitute for a good urologist.
