    Pain

Are you taking your pain meds scheduled? Don't chase pain. What that means as it was explained to me is once you feel pain it is too late to catch up by taking a pain pill or liquid or whatever your doctor gives you. If the prescription says every four hours, then do that. You can wean yourself off them after a few more days.

    Death Clock

Ever see the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"? Check it out if you haven't. Maybe you will wind up like him. 😉
  3. I did a quick search and found these. So there are some out there. You will have to search them out. https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Fuhrman-Gentle-Care-Formula/dp/B004L176J2 Also look for MTHFR mutation. People with this can't handle man made folic acid. So there are vitamins made without it.

I am ready. On day five of 1 week liquid diet and I have lost 12 lbs since starting it (I probably lost a couple of pounds sweating the Chiefs win yesterday) . Lots of ups and downs for energy, but hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. Two more days left. My surgery is at 7:30 am on Thursday and I have to be there at 5:30 am. Been getting up early and going to bed early so I can be well rested.

    3 Month Stall. WTF?!

Here is BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) calculator which shows your daily caloric needs based on your height and weight. Not sure if it would be any different for WLS folk, but it will at least give you and idea of where you are at. For me an 80 lbs weight loss means my BMR is 500 calories a day less than when I started. http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

    Stomach cramps

My doctor prescribed medication for stomach cramps, hyoscyamine 0.125 mg tab sublingual. I haven't had surgery yet so I can't say if it works or not.

  11. I had colon surgery in December 2018 and it took 3 weeks for my big incision to stop draining. For the first week it was leaking a lot. Fat people are prone to seroma's. A seroma is a pocket formed by the accumulation of serous fluid after surgery. The surgeon says it was nothing to worry about as long as the fluid was clear and not cloudy. But it did bother me as it would leak through the dressing. It will get better.

Be careful collagen is not a complete protein and shouldn't be counted in your protein totals. It only has 8 of 9 amino acids required to be a complete protein. It is still beneficial though. Here is a good article explaining the benefits and shortcomings of collagen. https://tasty-yummies.com/collagen-good-source-protein/

    Caffeine?

A lot of liquids with caffeine are also acidic. You are trying to let your stomach heal so why introduce an irritant? I guess I would rather be safe than sorry.

On day two of 1 week liquid diet. It hasn't been too bad so far as it allows for something every hour or so. 8am - Protein shake 9:30am - sugar free jello, 1 cup of fruit and 8 oz water 10:30 am Protein Shake 12pm - 16 oz water 1pm - Protein Shake 2:30pm - 1 cup low sodium broth, 1 cup of fruit and 8 oz water 3:30pm - Protein Shake 5pm - 16 oz water 6:30pm - Protein shake 8pm - 1 cup low sodium broth and 1 cup of fruit Spreading things out over the day helps. Prior to this I was dieting using intermittent fasting, so I am used to feeling hungry and can deal with it.

I read that as well. I have been taking it for a couple of months now. I haven't noticed any changes positive or negative. Doctor said to stop all supplements 1 week before surgery, so I will pick it back up after surgery when my stomach has recovered a bit.
  17. It all comes down to insurance. Each company has there own requirements. Some overlap, some don't. I had 90 day medically supervised "weight loss." I didn't have to lose weight though, just couldn't gain any weight. Had to have psychological evaluation as well. Also had EGD and ultrasound of fall bladder to check for stones. Those two were surgeon's requirements not insurance. Got approved in about 5 business days.

There is a thread for this already. I found it very motivating to see the transformation that is possible.

I am having VSG with Dr de la Torre on Jan 16. I just started my 1 week liquid diet. I found this at Walmart and they are delicious, but won't be able to have them after surgery for a while because they contain caffeine. Cafe Latte

I actually prefer not to die

My surgeon says death is a possible complication, but the odds are 1 in 1000. He said that with a straight face even. 🤣

Clean sheets are nice, but my surgeon and for previous surgeries it is recommended to minimize germs. I have to shower and wash with antibacterial soap, hibiclens, the night before and morning of and use clean towels after each shower. Hibiclens is what they use to wash their hands prior to surgery. They are trying to minimize the risk of infection from what I understand. I am doing whatever my surgeon recommends as they are the experts.

    Moisture under stomach flab

I have a bit of over hang and have some of the same issues. I have gotten some prescription powder, Nystatin topical powder, as doctor said I had yeast infection. If you can get to your doctor and have them document your skin issues. If you ever consider plastic surgery to remove excess skin insurance may cover part of it if you can show it is medically necessary. If doctor isn't an option I have used diaper rash cream and when rash healed I used Gold Bond powder.

    Need a good LIE

I agree with above posters. Why lie, if someone asks just say, "I had surgery," and leave it at that. If someone asks for details just stand there staring at them and say nothing. They will become uncomfortable and either change the subject or walk away. Put the onus on them for invading your privacy. If the have a decent sense of humor you could tell them that you cannot discuss it due to HIPAA privacy laws 😉

Just had my pre-op clearance appointment with my surgeons nurse practitioner and everything is set for my surgery on January 16th. Nothing to do now but wait.
  25. Ask if your surgeon can use exparel. It is injected at the incision sites and does a great job in reducing pain after surgery. Just something to ask when you meet with them. Don't be afraid to let them know you have low threshold for pain. They will ask you on scale of 1 to 10 what your comfort level is that you can tolerate before you need pain med. For me that is a 4, but if for you that if it is lower then tell them that. If offered pain med take it! Don't wait until you need it as that will be too late because you will have to wait for it to kick in. Don't chase pain, stay ahead of it! At least until you have healed for a bit and are feeling comfortable.
