I was the same 36/35 BMI. I ate salty food the night before MD appts and wore heavier clothes. I also made afternoon vs morning appointments. It’s crazy but if I had randomly lost 4-5 pounds per the scale at an early morning appointment then it would have messed up insurance. Everyone bounces around a few pounds all day long and I didn’t want to happen to be too close to the cut off when the doctor measured my weight knowing if he weighed me an hour later it would probably be up again. They did weigh me the morning of surgery and had warned me early on that if I slipped under 34.9 that my insurance wouldn’t cover it. My weight did fluctuate a few pounds during the 6 months but was always above 35 BMI.

In your situation, I'd probably do that to. Find out from your RD if you gain 5lbs between now and then, will you get in trouble with insurance or the doctor?

Oh no! When do you have your next appointment? Do you have to gain those 8 pounds before that date? I didn’t realize maintaining the same weight would be so difficult. Smh

He didn’t specify. If they were to use my initial weight then I shouldn’t worry but he told me not to lose any weight. I’m not really sure how this works 😞

    Hi guys!
My Name is Steph, I recently started my journey to have gastric sleeve on December. My BMI is 35 so my doctor told me I can’t lose weight or my insurance will deny my surgery. This is so stressful. I tried to slowly cut off sugars to get started some how, but when I went for my visit (have to do 6 visits as per my insurance) I lost 4 pounds. December seems so far away. Any ideas to get started on my journey but maintaining my actual weight?

Had mine this morning around 8-ish i guess, after a few delays. Not sure if it's the meds killing pain or could it be possible that I really don't have any gas pains, am I one of the fortunate ones? 🥳

Congrats Curlygirl! We did it, now let the fun begin, we got this.

Today I finally got to talk to my surgeons office. I was told that I will see them on the 12th (2nd visit with them) I will see my surgeon that day and finally get the scoop. I will meet with the nutritionist that day and I assume my blood work that day as well. I start a full liquid Friday the 13th and y surgery is scheduled for the 16th, I just don't have a time yet. I feel so much better after talking to them, I was beginning to feel like they were forgetting about me

I hope so my 6 month diet will end in the second week of dec. and they want to get me in before the end of the month so I don’t have to pay so much. I’ll pay $800 this year compared to $5k next year!

Mine is very similar to GreenTealael. The only difference is my surgeon wants his patients walking to prevent blood clots. So I got registered, walked. Talked to anesthesia, walked. Talked to surgeon, walked. Got a Lovenox shot in my belly, walked. Nurse came and I walked back to the OR and climbed on the OR table. Last thing I remember is anesthesia telling me to go to my happy place and my responding "Imma go to Disney World!"
I did not go to Disney. It was a little disappointing.

Arrived at the hospital ~5:30am for a 7am surgery signed in filled out remaining paperwork.
Taken to the preop area, urine sample collected (pregnancy testing), changed into hospital gowns then weight, temp, blood pressure etc. testing.
Layed on bed while IV line was placed, asked to confirm personal info (name, date of birth, reason for visit -to make sure patient is aware of procedure)
Lactated Ringers began (IV fluids), Surgeon stopped by to go over the plan answer questions (very calming) next Anesthesiologist stops by and asked confirmation questions (name, date of birth, reason for visit -to make sure patient is aware of procedure) tell you the type of anesthesia answer questions.
    VSG:
Versed Fentanyl given while being wheeled back to OR. I arrived to cheering and applause from surgical staff. Greeted everyone with fairytale princess waves. Transfered from bed to OR table. While monitoring devices were placed i drifted to sleep.
    RNY conversion:
Wheeled back to OR, with jokes and laughter, where i was introduced to every member of the team (by name and position) who would work with me. Greeted by everyone with hand shakes or waves. Transfered to OR table.
Versed Fentanyl given while friendly chatter and banter ensued. Monitoring devices placed, i asked Anesthesiologist how long until i feel asleep, he told me to count to 100. Oxygen mask placed, i only remember counting to 8. Fell asleep immediately.
    Both surgeries:
In and out of lucidity while in recovery area. Not fully awake until i reached my room ~1-2 hrs after surgery ended.

I went to my consult with my doctor July 24th. I have been through my psych evaluation (only one required), went to one nutritionist appointment (I have 3 pre-op) and I have my appointment with the gastro doc on 8/27 (the EDG isn't scheduled yet - it will be after this appointment). I just want to get my date already! My insurance only requires a three month period but it still doesn't seem real until I know my date - and then I can go to my primary doc for the rest of the pre-op tests. I have lost 30 lbs since I started trying 7/14/19 to lose weight, because I wanted to be healthy. I'm happy I'm losing on my own but I'm ready for the next step. I feel like all I do is obsess about having the surgery and looking at everything about it, every day, from the procedure, Vitamins, people's before and after pics, etc. I also don't want the doc to schedule my surgery for the date my father passed (10/21). I found out it would be a Monday and, sure enough, 10/21 falls on a Monday and I have this weird feeling that that will be my date. I hope I get a choice because I feel bad karma around that date. But I want it as soon as possible. Sorry, I just had to vent somewhere where people understand.

I think we are all a lot more self critical then anyone else would be. No one is perfect when naked, not even models. So any reasonable man is not going to expect perfection once you're undressed.
I know it is cliche, but self confidence goes a long way. If you are comfortable, and feel sexy and desirable, you will absolutely project that.

Thanks so much HipHopDiva!! I made it[emoji119][emoji119][emoji119][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120] Yesterday was a son of b@@@h of pain [emoji33][emoji33][emoji33][emoji33][emoji33][emoji33]. No matter how much I read it on here, saw it on YouTube, I couldn't have prepared for that gas pain. I was almost writhing in pain.
I quickly got walking and walking and walking! I was named the "walking queen" on my floor!
Just woke up this am and can come on the forum because I am feeling marginally better.

I can't believe I am on the other side! Feels surreal. My doc took a before and after of my stomach! Wow!! She actually said, this was the largest anatomical stomach she has EVER seen [emoji54][emoji54][emoji54][emoji22][emoji22][emoji22] and she would have thought big stomach would correlate to big BMI as a hypothesis but she's clearly wrong. She had to make the exit insition larger to get the stomach out!!![emoji26][emoji26][emoji26]

Anyway, excuse all grammatical errors, still slightly under the influence of pain management.

Take care y'all, your time will arrive faster than you think! For us post OP, may our recovery remain speedy [emoji120]🤞[emoji169][emoji169][emoji169][emoji169]

Soon2bSleeved12/2019 reacted to Diana_in_Philly in Do you guys feel normal? Long Term Sleevers
I'm 3 years out next month. I feel so much better than normal. I pretty much eat what I want (within limits) and give myself the option of the occasional slice of pizza or small plate of Pasta. I still take a PPI for reflux and my Vitamins. But what I can do now that I couldn't do before when I was 300 pounds:
I'm ranked 22 among women in my age group in foil fencing (as in en garde) NATIONALLY
I'm ranked 37 among women in my age group in saber fencing NATIONALLY
I can deadlift and back squat 240 pounds. I can clean and jerk 75 pounds.
If I had the plastics done, you'd see the six pack.
I'm in the best shape I've ever been in during my adult life.
Do I have a cocktail once or twice a week? Sure
Do I eat popcorn occasionally? Sure
But my weight is stable around 152 with about 25% body fat which is pretty darn good for a post menopausal woman who has lost 150 pounds.
Do I know I have a sleeve - sure - if I try to eat too much or eat too fast I'm reminded. But that doesn't happen very often.

    Hi Ash,
It is not atypical for partners to feel threatened by WLS, especially when they are overweight themselves. Concepts such as "Will she leave me if I stay overweight and she is thin?" "How will I feel when she gets attention from other men?" etc can certainly result in anxiety and negative treatment may be a means to controlling these outcomes. Unfortunately, this stems from low self-esteem, insecurity, immaturity, trust/respect issues.
There needs to be a sensitivity towards your partner as they are undergoing changes themselves. Reassurance is paramount. However, I will be brutally honest. You cannot promise what you do not know. Many people who undergo a major weight loss go through radical physical and psychological changes, in essence, they become new people. What you are envisioning as your future today, may indeed be nothing what you are envisioning.
The focus should be on the current moment. What is your goal, to lose weight I'm sure. What is supporting or sabotaging this effort? The focus needs to be on what you need to be successful. It already sounds like your inner voice is telling you that he is hindering your progress and/or your ability to enjoy your journey. Boundaries must be set and self-love needs to be your priority. You've come too far and sacrificed too much to fail.
On a side note, my ex husband and I were banded together in 2009. We divorced in 2017. Referring to paragraph 2, there was no way I could ever imagine the extent by which I would change. I lost 120 lbs and you bet it changed how I looked at myself. I not only had a higher esteem, I had a desire for all aspects of my life to be healthy. I am not claiming the divorce was solely based on weight loss or surgery. Rather, the weight loss experience was empowering and I wanted the best for myself. I had a new perspective on life and knew I could be happier. Fastforward to today, I am remarried to the most remarkable man alive and my life no longer feels imbalanced on any level.
I hope that you are able to communicate your feelings and needs with your partner and come to an understanding that support is needed and boundaries respected. If not, I wish you the strength to make the necessary decisions to make you happy and healthy

I am at the very beginning of my journey. I just had my consult for gastric bypass surgery last Wednesday and already have my consult appointment for my endoscopy and my first nutrition appointment scheduled for next week. I love reading all the posts and seeing all the success stories! I will be posting my journey along the way. I have to have 6 months of nutrition classes as one of my insurance requirements, so I should be ready for surgery by January. Any and All advise is welcome 😊❤️
