Hi all. I’m 55 and scheduled for RNY on 10/15/19.
It is great to read this thread and hear how well those over 50 are doing!
-
I’m set for 10/15 and I question myself all the time.
I get scared but then I remind myself that it would be scarier if I don’t fix my health problems.
This can only happen by losing weight and keeping it off!

Oh wow, cdiff is rough. No wonder you were going so often and that definitely explains the horrific odor.
Not that any diarrhea smells like roses but cdiff is in its own category.
I hope those meds kick in quickly and you get relief! Hugs! -
Since I am close to that 35 BMI with co morbidities, I asked the nurse the question of, “what if I lost weight and was under 35 BMI?” She said that the weight that is used is the first weight they took when the process began. Idk if that is standard practice.
I’m trying to make changes and I have lost about 8 lbs so far. I’d sure like to lose even more but I’m not hard core dieting. Just making changes suggested by NUT. -
I went to my surgeon thinking I would get vsg and he talked me into rny due to my reflux history.

I’m pre op so no loss yet!
But I must admit I am nervous about it. Yikes! -

I just got my surgery date of 10/15/19. I wish it was sooner but I know it will be here soon enough.
I was a little nervous about RNY when my surgeon recommended it to me over VSG but I’m coming around to it now.
For some reason the thought of a remnant stomach floating around in my body seems odd. I also don’t like that they can’t endo ever again in case something goes bad with it. My other fear is that an adhesion will mess up my intestines. I had an adhesion once from C sections that attached to my intestines and had to be cut.
Anyone have adhesion issues or experiences?
Despite my worries, I am quite excited by the wonderful results I see everyone achieving!
Thanks everyone!GreenTealael reacted to this -
I use my cpap but I don’t believe I have severe apnea. I used to at one point at a lower weight...go figure.
I’m glad you brought this question up because I didn’t realize I had to bring the cpap to the hospital. I figured with the oxygen I wouldn’t need it. -
How are you feeling today?
-
They haven’t given me my official date yet except to say “End of September or first week of October”
So we may be surgery buddies.
I wish you the best! You are going to look GREAT for the holidays.Astrid05 reacted to this -
Hi all,
I’m two months pre op right now with several comorbidities that require daily medications.
While I am hopeful to get off of all or at least most of my medications, I don’t know when that will happen.
Do all meds come in liquid form? I can’t figure out how on earth the handful of pills I am presently taking can be taken with a post op pouch!
Also, if you used a cpap, how long after surgery did you get off of it?
Thanks.FluffySaysForkIt! reacted to this -
Wow! What a story and transformation! When I realized this was from 17 I was wondering how you are doing today. Thanks for the update!!

Best wishes to you both!

Sadek has a great reputation. My coworker had his done in November and is doing great. He said 5 other people went after they saw his results and they are happy, too.
RWJBH in NB is a great facility, also. -
I am scheduled for October but no definite date yet. It is a 3 month process that I started on 7/5.
Like you, I have stopped coffee already. I’m also introducing Protein Shakes in the morning since I need to start eating Breakfast.< br />
I’m also nervous about the lifestyle change. However, I know feeling better and getting off the meds for my comorbities will all be worth it.
Being slim will be nice, too. However, I’m mainly going through this for the health reasons. Being slim will just be a super nice bonus. 😀
The band removal was so easy last year. I wish I did it 4 years sooner! Puking all the time really sucked.
We got this. 👍 -
Hi. I’m new here, also. We are on the same journey. 😀
I removed my band after five years in 2018.
I went to the surgeon on 7/5/19 thinking I would get vsg but he said he would recommend rny instead due to reflux and my age (55).
I have a BMI of 36 with lots of comorbities except for diabetes (so far).
I just want to be around for kids and right now I’m a heart attack waiting to happen. But then I get scared thinking what if I get a bad complication from rny and I’m not here for my kids...
Are you nervous?
I hope for the best for you!

Anyone else scheduled for October?

I don’t typically wish the summer away but I sure wish it was October and we could get this show on the road!
Lots of pre op appointments coming up but other than that I am just waiting patiently.
I have been working on journaling my food and thoughts. Making small changes. Setting small daily goals. I’ve lost 8 lbs since July and would love to drop a few more before 10/15/19 Surgery Date. I’m not dieting per se. I’m just making small changes and the loss of 8 lbs is due to those changes.
I have been enjoying reading everyone’s posts and I look forwarding to finding others October people.
Thanks for reading.
