  1. Are you able to eat anything or liquids only? I’m thankful I can have some lean Protein and starch free veggies to help give variety but it’s still hard going ..l anything helping your nerves?

I get 6 servings of raw vegetables, or like cream of wheat. So basically, 1 normal meal for me split across the day. Id love some meat or eggs lol. My nerves would be better if everywhere I went for preop and such people weren't like "oh wow, you're getting a full switch procedure."

  2. I recently became business partners with my brother due to our dad's passing and inheriting the business. My brother doesn't do much with it- I handle almost anything that the manager needs help with (with his input sometimes).

I'd be leaving my mom (who is already stressed out due to financial concerns from us needing to sell the childhood home we inherited) with my brother who'd get every but has no idea (and no seeming will) to actually take care of it.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I've actually heard some people talk about joint pain increasing with weight loss [emoji20] something about loss of padding/lubrication. Not sure there's anything to it, and getting the weight off would definitely decrease pressure on those joints (so that a steroid shot or something would work better than a replacement).
Yeah, this is osteoarthritis, so I'm already missing some of the padding, lol. I've got a pain doc willing to do some work to try and help, but I have to lose some weight so the needles will actually get into my joint. End of the day, losing weight will help no matter what with my health, that's my focus at least.

  3. I'm the 17th!

Honestly, I'm a mixture of emotions.

The nervousness of surgery itself didn't start until I got the date. But I'm also not nervous because it'll be what it'll be.

I stopped fearing my own death a long time ago- but my nervousness stems from something going wrong and being in pain or something for the rest of my life. And, ya know, the fear that surgery won't work or do anything at all.

People keep asking me how I feel about it and I'm just like "Eh, it's major surgery." The idea of finally being able to lose the weight (and keep it off!) is exciting. And there's that nervousness. But mostly I'm just antsy to get it done and over with. The build up is more nerve wracking.

I'm with you on the fear of death. My worry is leaving my wife stuck dealing with it if something happens. One of the biggest reasons I'm having the surgery is to get weight off some bad joints. I'm more terrified the joint pain doesn't lessen.

  4. I am the 17th! Can i join the party? There are five of us now, I think. Lots of 17th surgery dates. I will be doing gastric sleeve.

My doc gave verrrrry little guidance on the pre-op diet. I see him Thursday but seeing as how its 2 weeks out I think i'm gong to switch over now. Anyone want to chime in with what their pre-op diet looks like?

I'm new here - sorry if this isn't appropriate etiquette.

  5. My date is September 6th. I'm on my 2nd week of pre-op diet and lost 12 pounds so far in the first week. Had my scope done on Friday and woke up from the anesthesia laughing. The nurses got a kick out of that. I'm getting nervous... but I'm ready. Having the BPD/DS.
I am having a DS as well, start my diet on Tuesday. Trying to avoid last supper syndrome this weekend.

  6. So we went out last night buying some shakes before they went off sale today. The woman working the register asked about the 8 packs of shakes, and of course had a story. Her "sister" who had bypass in the 80s, and had so many problems she couldn't even drink Water. So, the solution, was they gave her a lap band? What are some of the craziest stories you have heard from people?

  7. So, as I am getting closer to having everything setup, I know that there needs to be a goal weight on the paperwork to give us a place to aim for, and I know all of the paperwork always goes by BMI. At 5'11", the top weight for "healthy" is 175 lbs. Now, Im not a small guy, I have a broad frame. Is there a better way to figure out a goal than BMI? If I hit 175 lbs, Id be confused for a crackhead.

  8. So, just to update, the patient advocate called a little while ago to let me know that the Dr has approved the full switch surgery after looking through the information given on why I wanted to do that. Have my last classes this week, and then everything goes into insurance. Since my wife works for the hospital where it will be done and I am on her insurance, that just means waiting on a date, wooohoo!!
