If you're on full liquids, you can blend banana and PB in a vanilla Protein Shake. Bliss.
I called it my Elvis shake and it was one of my favorites.

After thinking I might make May-June-July-or August for my surgery, it turns out I will be singing a SEPTEMBER song. Do I have a surgery twin, someone who will be going through this wonderous transformation with me?

So I just got off the phone with Anthem. They did receive the prior-authorization request on 7/25 and they have something like 14 days to review. So it looks like they have until about 8/13 to decide.
But at least I know where I am in the process.

Had my revision to RNY yesterday. Surgery went well and they also fixed a pretty large Hiatal hernia. Water is going down fine. I keep sleeping with my mouth open & it is royally drying my mouth out. They gave me an anti nausea patch behind my ear that is working like a charm . The pain is also different from when I had the sleeve. More gas in my chest this time & it feels like I did 8million sit-ups, but I know each day will get better. To all those getting revision- make sure you walk laps around the floor and definitely take the main meds. They work! And make sure you ask for sugar free popsicles !
I assume the Dr is going to make me stay an extra night but not sure.
Happy I am finally through it and on the road to no more GERD.
Good luck to all who will also be going through this!🍀

Hey, congrats on this great move! I had my gastric bypass two weeks ago yesterday and I feel great. Here are some things I have experienced that may help you:
The gas pain HURTS and pain killers don't take it away. Saw a video (after the fact) that a woman took Gas-X melting strips and she said that worked like a blessing. I didn't do that so I can't speak for it. Walk. Walk. Walk!!! Walk as soon as you are able in the hospital. I did so many laps and I believe that this led to my quick and easy recovery. Head hunger is real and can sure fool you into thinking you are hungry. Don't let your old habits carry over to your new self. Walk away from head hunger and do something interesting instead of eating. Don't overeat and don't under eat. Make sure you have at least two Protein Shakes a day (60 grams of protein) and drink as much clear liquid as you can. It's very hard to get all this in, especially in the beginning but try. Don't expect quick weight loss. In the two weeks post surgery, I have only shed 10 pounds. But I feel good and that matters most. I know weight will eventually come off because my caloric intake is a fraction of what it used to be. The biggest thing for me was finding out that my mind did not know I went through the surgery. I still craved food, looked through recipes, watched MasterChef with envy. But your body very much knows you went through surgery. Eat or drink too fast or too much, and your body will let you know. So far, I've only had tiny pain from drinking too big a gulp but it's very easy to forget to eat small and slow. Be positive and be happy. You are going through a lot and putting your body through a lot. Enjoy the possibilities of a brighter future and enjoy the ride! Best of luck to you!

It is possible you might not even have to/ need to take them post surgery.
Every Doctor is different. Mine has his patients take them for 3 months after surgery as a protection for healing the new staple line and connections. That is the only reason, at this point, I am still taking them at all. I hope to have no issues once I wean off of it... we will see.
I can tell you the relief from GERD has been really, really awesome for myself post bypass.
Good luck to you in your journey!

If you do it right then you will have large weight losses right after surgery. Plus, the bigger you are the more weight you will lose. I lost over a 100 lbs in the first 6 months after my surgery. Now, I'm not even a full year out and have lost a total of 176 lbs.
The problem with the people on the show is that most of them do not follow the diet and just eat whatever they want. They show them eating crap they should not be eating after the surgery. So it's no shocker when they end up losing so very little. The past one I watched with "Betty Jo" was a joke. She was celebrating her success when it was obvious she was still dangerously obese and then got pregnant on top of it. Sad.

This is where you have to practice some real commitment to your long term goals. Develop some mantras that are really meaningful to you and they will help pull you through temptations. There will be temptations for the rest of your life! My three little sayings that help me keep my resolve are:
I'M NEVER GOING BACK! (I am determined to do whatever it takes to keep from being obese again! If that means walking every day or resisting pizza, I will do it.)
I WILL HAVE THIS AGAIN - JUST NOT NOW. (You will get pizza again - just not now. I had my first piece last week, and honestly, it didn't taste as good as I remembered! I've made 2 full Mexican meals for family events, and made 4 birthday cakes during this time, and this little saying got me through them all.) Delayed gratification is a really important skill to develop.)
IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT. (That taste of ice cream or bite of dessert is just not worth it. It will create more cravings, lead to further temptations and slips, and will just mess up my head for my lifelong goal of health. It will jack up my insulin level which leads to more fat storage instead of fat burning. The taste lasts 10 seconds tops, but the results can be lifetime. Our health IS worth it - more than that silly bite.)
Hope this helps. Having determined resolve is one of the chief markers of WLS success, according to some research. We have got to get honest and recognize the games we have been playing with food. It is hard, no doubt about it. If your coping skill for stress was eating, then you have to find new coping skills. The little sayings are one of mine. Exercise is the other. Whatever works for you, but you have to develop strategies that will get you through the temptations for the rest of your life. Preop is the best place to start practicing. I also found it very helpful to use the preop time to get rid of caffeine, soda and sugar. It's MUCH easier to get through the withdrawal prior to surgery. Surgery is hard enough by itself.
