  1. Hello Mark, Eventually we could all start gaining. I know that I worry about it. I am a month further out than you and was plodding along at the same weight for a month. I decided to go back to eating plain chicken and other meats. I try to eat very little carb, ususally 40 to 50 grams a day and 60 to 80 protein and of course 60 to 100 oz of water. Once I did that and kept my calories close to 1100 I dropped 4 pounds over night and the scale hasn't rebounded yet despite enjoying the race day on Sunday. It did seem counter intuitive to eat more to lose but it really did work and I wish I had done it when advised to do so. Good luck! I forgot to add that I had tried Russell Stover sugar free chocolates and they are so tasty. My problem is is sets me up to crave more sweets so I decided to give it up.

    Three Months now! w/pics

    Looking fantastic!
  3. I drive myself crazy with the scale. But, I know that my weight will fluctuate all over the place and to not let it get to me. Make sure to take your measurements, because when the scale doesn't move, you will be losing inches!
  4. I had my surgery 2 days before you. I thought I might just be done losing also, until I went extreme with protein and upped my calories to 1100 and the scale moved!

    Post Op Meds

They had me swallowing my pain pills in the hospital, and they were the size of a Tylenol tablet.

    Turmeric?

Azhiker, do you strain out the spices? I used to strain them out using cheese cloth. I think I will go back to turmeric again!

    Blood clots shot

I had those shots in my stomach and the bruises lasted for at least 3 weeks. It should get better soon.
  8. I have been working so hard to keep my calories up at around 1000/1100. My fitnesspal kept telling me if I keep eating this way I will weigh 158 in 5 weeks. I was getting pretty frustrated because the scale stayed at the same 169/170 for 3 weeks. I have been really focusing on getting my protein in, if I was hungry I would eat some roasted chicken (I even bought myself a rotisserie chicken just for that reason) Well today much to my happy surprise I dropped 2.5 pounds! I guess the Nutritionist knows what she is talking about. This week I am going to focus on getting more exercise in, and hopefully kick it up up even more.

    I messed up

I am a complete sugar addict, even sugar free triggers me and I just need to stay away from it
  10. I will occasionally eat cream of wheat if I am at the end of the day and not close to my calorie count.
  11. It will resolve with time. I actually started to have trouble breathing at 2 weeks post op and after an afternoon in the ER and a blood clot scare I was diagnosed with Pleurisy. So keep an eye on it, but as your swelling and gas goes down it should resolve Congratulations!

Weight more now than before surgery

After 4 days I cam home 15 pounds heavier after surgery. I was bummed, but it was just fluid. It will be gone before you know it!
  13. I am the same way. I kept all my clothes as the scale crept higher and I am so glad I did. I have sizes all the way to 6, so I should be good for awhile.
  14. It sounds like you got away with it, just don't do it again. The hardest part of this surgery is how very mindful you must be of how and what you eat. You should be fine, but stick to your plan!
  15. One thing I know can help is drinking more water, which will pull the excess from you. Another thing I read was to add a magnesium supplement. I googled it and here are the results: https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+deal+with+water+retention&oq=how+to+deal+with+water+retention&aqs=chrome..69i57j35i39l2j69i65l2j69i60l3.6987j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Hope this helps!

    Just Venting... Again!

I wanted to share what I took to help me quit smoking. My Dr put me on Wellbutrin, I took it for a month and then quit smoking. I will tell you that this was the easiest time out of probably 8 times I quit and it has stuck. I noticed no crazy side effects from it like other stop smoking meds and a great side effect is you can lose some weight on it. Now, as far as insomnia, I have had it on and off my whole life, but about a month after surgery I started sleeping though the night and I would hardly move in the night. I am not sure if this is surgery related or not, but if so I'll take it! Let us know what your Dr says today!
  17. I am a chronic pain patient. I also have a lumbar fusion and had previous cervical surgery as well as a non operational thoracic spine issue. I also have arthritis and bursitis and fibro. I will say that over all I feel a lot better. I have lost almost 60 pounds. We had a weather system go through two weekends ago and I could hardly get up the stairs. Tuesday I had injections into my hips fr bursitis and feel 100% better. So, yes over all I would say it helps for sure, and I expect there are some long term benefit I will see in the future. Best of luck on your journey!

    Questions for Right After Surgery

This is so true! I came home after 4.5 days in the hospital weighing in at 229 when I went in for surgery I was 214! It took almost 2 weeks to lose the water weight from the hospital.

    Progress!

Congratulations! Your surgery will be here before you know it!

    Any transplant patients here?

I am not a transplant patient, but my husband donated a kidney 2 years ago. It has been such a blessing to watch the changes in the recipient. Slow and steady wins the race. Welcome to the group and enjoy the journey!
  22. Yesterday I went in and had both my hips injected for Bursitis. Today I am in some pain for sure. Has anyone experienced expanding pain after surgery? I felt so much better until the last month. Maybe it is the weather, I do notice it more when it snows, rains or sleets on us! Any ideas on exercises I can do for Bursitis or hip pain? I don't really want to spend the rest of my life gimping around! Thanks!

    Hip pain increased?

I don't think it is the surgery either. Must be my age and the weather. But, I have had arthritis since I was 19!
