  1. Hi all,
My one year surgery anniversary is 7/31. Since surgery I've lost 84 lbs. Quarantine has not been helpful, I am working from home full time now and not getting much exercise. My doctor says I'm doing great in spite of everything. I'm in a size 10 pants size now. I'm pleased with my progress and I will keep going! Hope everyone is doing well, happy 1-year to all of my July siblings!!

  2. Hi all,
Just checking in. I'm slowly pushing along. I'm down to 194 and wearing size 12 pants and med/leg tops. The weigh is slowly coming off but at least the scale is moving. I've been working from home the last month which I haven't been getting my usual excercise in. I miss the stairs at work. I've been cooped up in my house it seems like forever. I have asthma really bad and cannot risk getting sick. Hope every one is doing great. Stay safe, stay well.

  6. So I just had to put this somewhere because I have to say the first 80-85 came off quick. These last 15 not so much.
I have been in a stall since Thanksgiving going down and up a few at a time while allowing myself to live a little and have some holiday treats.
Got most everything out of the house, got my butt to the gym, started tracking carefully again and today finally weighed in at 100 down. Will be 8 months post 2/4 and I would say most of the work is on me at this point. I can absolutely overeat right now if I eat the wrong things. Just making that statement for anyone who is out there wondering what restriction may look like at this point. It’s there but I certainly have to choose right. No more “free ride” LOL
    Congratulations!! Great job!!

  7. I wanted gastric bypass to lose the maximum amount of weight possible. But I wasn't "that" obese and my Primary Care Doctor and psychiatrist wanted me to go for the "less invasive" sleeve surgery, which didn't make sense to me because they cut out 2/3 of my stomach, which sounds pretty "invasive" to me. LOL! So that's how I decided.
I too wanted the bypass to lose the maximum amount of weight and my doctor felt I could achieve the same results with the sleeve even though I suffered from GERD. I trust my doctor and I'm very happy with my surgery. I have not had any issues with GERD since my surgery.

  8. Guys, I gotta get this off my chest.
BariatricPal is a wonderful site that has helped countless people on their weight loss journey. Many topics have been discussed here with some of them being a bit off-color or controversial, but it's OK because we are hear to learn and get help and give help.
But many posters ask honest questions, and some of the responses come off as being judgemental of the poster. If people are afraid their questions are going to bring down a rain of judgements on their head, they are likely NOT to post, and isn't asking questions what this forum is for?
So I hope we can give a bit of consideration when we respond to a question. Opinions are definitely OK, but if the post comes off as judgemental people may be hesitant to ask them, and it defeats the purpose of this forum.
Thanks, whew-I feel better now. I love you all!

    Well said!! Thank you!!

  10. Get the amount of fish you want for say 4 meals which pre cooked will be about 20 ounces -
Now assuming it is a white fish and fresh take the fish and cut into 4 equal pieces - Lay it out on a paper towel and salt the fish - The salt is a brine and will pull out some of the moisture but will also keep it from getting fishy, Now store the fish in a sealed container on a paper towel - Each day as you want to cook it take out the piece and soak it in milk or buttermilk - about a hour - This will remove the Fishy taste and will also re hydrate it.
Season it and cook- If you follow above you will not have the 4 day fishy taste, Freezing fish works but once cooked it will be dry as hell and be fishy.
Try to bake or air fry it - skillet and oil will also make it firmer

  12. Does everyone lose hair? ....how much hair do you lose?....does it grow back?
Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi, I have lost a lot of hair since my surgery 7/31/19. It sheds throughout the day. My doctor says to increase my folic acid intake and continue taking my supplements and follow my eating plan and my hair will grow back. I'm also taking e Biotin and collagen and I use Viviscal Shampoo and conditioner and supplements.

  13. This has been widely discussed on this site, and you'll find that people have strong opinions for either keeping it a secret or telling all. I personally have kept my surgery private. Only my husband and children know. I don't feel obligated to tell anyone my personal medical history. I wouldn't expect someone to tell me they had a vasectomy. It's none of my business. I've changed my eating habits, so I tell them what my diet consists of but leave it at that. Too many people want to criticize another person for his/her life decisions, and I don't have time for that. I'm focusing on being positive and healthy and don't need the drama, especially at work.
    I agree with you 100%.

  15. Very happy to report that I've hit my 2019 milestone goal and dropped under 200 this weekend for the first time since my 20s. Next milestone is to get under 180 (my surgeon's goal for me) and out of the obese category! (Haven't seen that weight since my teens.)
I hope the rest of you are doing well. I know the holidays can be a challenge with food, so wishing everyone lots of luck!
Congratulations, great job!! So happy for you !!!

  16. Hi, I was sleeved 7/31/19. I only told my husband and two sons and my daughter in law. I did not tell anyone at work as I don't feel its anyone's business. Every one at work knows I have been dieting for the longest time so no one really questioned the rapid weight loss. If I'm asked, I'll tell them I changed the foods and portions I eat along with lots of excercise which is true. Good luck with your surgery and on your new journey and whatever you decide to tell people.
