  1. After 40 days, I got to have coffee this morning! And, it tastes awful! lol. I used to have half and half and some sugar; I tried it this morning with some Premier Caramel, and nope, can't drink it. I may have made it too strong, or maybe coffee is something in my past [emoji22] Has anyone found a good "creamer" for coffee?

Try Premier Protein Cafe Latte! 30 g protien and same amount of caffeine as 1 cup of coffee, I am obsessed. It was my fav of all the Protein Shakes pre-surgery. I order a 12 pack on Amazon but also available at Walmart.
I'm 4 weeks post op myself and just had my first of these today.Screenshot_20200321-082512_Amazon%20Shopping.jpeg

  2. Yes, I’ve had that experience as well. Some days even measuring doesn’t matter - it depends on what it is that I’m eating. I’ve started to only eat about 2/3 of what I’ve measured out. Then I wait about 5-10 mins, and if I don’t get that “I’ve eaten too much” feeling, I’ll eat the rest. Sometimes I don’t bother eating the rest even if I’m not full, but I try to if it’s rich in Protein.
    Thanks@ResaRoo
I'm glad I'm not alone in that! I'm going to slow way down and maybe even cut back further.

  3. 18 days post op and on puree/soft foods...I have been measuring and trying to gauge how much I can eat but rather than just feeling full when I'm full... I feel like I'm going to explode! Maybe I need to slow down in eating so I can feel full before the "almost can't keep it down" feeling. Anyone have similar experience or suggestions?

  4. Man, I’m so jealous of everyone saying it’s not that bad. I am in excruciating pain! The doctor said it might be also due to the gallbladder removal because he couldn’t numb that area. I can barely move and every time I take a sip of Water I’m nauseous and want to throw up. I have hydrocodone and oxycodone because of how much pain I am in. I hope it gets better from here.

I had gallbladder removed during vsg myself. The first day and night was AWFUL (pain and gas and nausea --> morphine, gas drops and zofran) but then it got better. I'm 7 days out and can tolerate all the Water, Protein Shakes, Soup, sf popsicles and Jello that I need now. I'm still tired and sore but every day is an improvement. Hang in there.

  5. Had my surgery yesterday morning. Wasn't too bad. If it wasn't for that one big painful incision I wouldn't have been able to tell I had surgery.
In my recovery room. Hard to sleep when people keep constantly coming in.
When I did wake up, the middle of my chest started to hurt. Feels rough. Almost like a rock is stuck

That's the gas! Walking, walking and more walking will help that. It will get better...

  6. Hope the gas pain is less! Are you home yet? The first few days were the hardest for me. Rest, walk and hydrate!
I am home and yes, the pain is better! I can't tolerate much more than Water and frozen Protein water at this point so that is sustaining me. I'm exhausted and sore and surprised at the activity happening in my stomach. It is gurgling and rolling and popping and making sounds that can be heard across the room. Crazy. Does the walking exhaust you? I can't seem to sleep for a long time but feel constantly tired too. I can't wait until this phase is over!!!!

  7. Hi Gang. I'm less than 24 hrs post op vsg and WOW the gas pain is real. I've been walking walking walking and they've kept me on track with pain meds but the gas is still here! They finally gave me gas drops at about 7pm last night and those definitely helped.
Also, most of the day yesterday every sip of Water or protien water made me throw up so I haven't really gotten much down. I'm hoping that today I have more success drinking. I just woke up and can already tell that I feel better than yesterday, thank god. I hope everyone else is hanging in there, it'll all be worth it!!

  8. 9 days post op! I start "smooth" foods tomorrow and my Vitamins. My hospital divides the 3rd stage in 2; 3A is egg whites, cottage cheese, ricotta, tofu, refried Beans for Protein, and soft bananas, cream of wheat, canned in own juice peaches or pears, sugar free pudding. I do that for 10 days. Then I add in more foods for 20 days (e.g. whole eggs, soft fish, etc.)
I am strangely kind of nervous! I am afraid once I get to eat real food I'll overeat. I am sure this is nonsensical, but it's funny how the mind works.
I had a stressful work related call today, and found myself, phone in hand, heading toward my kitchen thinking about crackers. It was one of those "AHA" moments. I have a feeling I have many more coming....
On the upside I feel really good! I got 8000 steps in yesterday, and all in all I'm feeling good. I seem to be able to drink my glass of Water more quickly, and it does not feel like a full-time job getting myself hydrated. I have been able to get over 65g of protein; the Bone Broth really, really helps. So we'll see what tomorrow brings.
Awesome!!! Keep up the good work!
I go in tomorrow at 8am and I'm as nervous as can be.

  9. Hi everyone! I'm a new member and my gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for 2/18. I'm excited and terrified all at once! There is the physical aspect but this whole experience has been a real mind shift. I was just telling my husband that I am aware of how much of a complainer I am being. The liquid diet has been tough on me. I started keto/IF on 12/28 and was losing weight before it. Now this feels like torture but I know it's preparing me for what is to come, in two days, I will be in a whole other phase...looking forward to learning and experiencing this with you all.
Welcome & good luck! I'm 2/20, struggling through the PreOp diet myself. We'll get through it!!!!

  10. Hey everyone I have a question. Probably TMI so I apologize in advance. I’m on day 6 of my 10 day pre-op diet. It’s not liquids only like others. I can have a certain amount of fruit, yogurt and sandwich meat per day for each meal. I can also have unlimited amounts of foods like pickles, celery, cucumbers and so on. But y’all, I have had straight diarrhea for the past several days. Did anyone else experience this? I don’t feel sick to my stomach but I have diarrhea several times a day. Just wondering if this is a normal thing.
I am on my liquid PreOp diet (can have 2 yogurts or 1 Protein bar/1 yogurt per day) and I have had diarrhea. Actually it's either diarrhea or constipation...no in between!

  11. They gave me special panties and some pads. If it's laparoscopic, they aren't doing anything to mess with that.
Other than your emotions being a bit higher (mine were, but I got through it okay), you should be okay. They're professionals, and they deal with people all the time. It's nothing they haven't seen before. [emoji173]️

    Thank you!!

  12. Ladies, I need help! I am afraid that I am due to get my period right around my scheduled surgery date next week! I have been off the birth control pill that is used to control my heavy flow. Will this impact surgery (please tell me it won't prevent moving forward with the surgery)? As it is my PMS and cycle time is a horrible mess of hormones and emotions, what should I expect?

  13. Hi everyone. I’ve been lurking on this forum for a couple of months and figured better late than never to actually join and post. I’m getting sleeved tomorrow!
Im so tired right now after the week of liquid diet but can’t go to sleep until I chug 2 bottles of “ensure pre surgery” at midnight. [emoji37]
thanks to all the February people that have posted. Makes me feel so much less alone!
    @CarmaCarmen Good luck!!!

  14. Hello Everyone! I had my surgery yesterday; I was supposed to go in at 2, but the ORs were delayed and I did not go in until about 4:30; got to my room around 7:30. Surgery went without a hitch. Came out of anesthesia much more awake and lucid than I expected. Had some pretty heavy meds in the recovery room. They had me up and walking by 9 that night.
As of last night I have been managing pain with Tylenol, and motrin if I need it.
The gas was pretty bad, but not as agonizing as I feared. Walking really, really helped.
To everyone's surprise, my surgeon let me go home at 2:30 today; I had a 90 mile drive home from Boston and if any of you are from around here you know that Boston traffic is awful, she said I looked good and we should get going and miss the traffic. I got home about 1/2 hour ago.
The ride was a bit rough, and I am stiff and uncomfortable.
The Water is CHALLENGING!!! They started me on Protein shakes....if anyone is intolerant of artificial sweeteners and is using one with stevia, bring your own. The ones they gave me at the hospital were so full of those sweeteners I was practically gagging.
Have not really slept well in 2 nights; Hope I can get comfortable and get some actual sleep (for more than 1/2 hour) tonight.
All in all far less agonizing than it could have been. I hope you all have equally easy times! I'm too tired to read through all the post from my February Surgery mates, I'll do that tomorrow.

So glad to hear all went well!! Sounds like your hospital experience was a good one. Sending good vibes your way for continued healing! Keep us posted...good, bad and ugly, we'll be here for support.
