3 days post op.. drinking question

This bothered me far less than I worried about pre surgery. My doc says you can drink right up to your first bite, then nothing while eating and for 30 minutes after. I’ve gotten used to it and it doesn’t bother me at all anymore.

    Protein Coffee

I do a variant of this, for breakfast every morning I mix a premier protein shake with cold brew coffee. Yum!

    Plastics!

No, but my surgeon offers 6 months zero interest financing through Care Credit. I saved up and paid $11,000 cash and will pay off the last $5000 before the six months is up.

    Foods after surgery

I’m able to tolerate most things. I never loved eggs and I like them even less now. I can’t eat very much pork (too dense and fills me up very quickly). I’m ok with some sugar in foods, but sweet alcohol contain drinks will make me dump.

    Plastics!

I’m have a tummy tuck w/muscle repair, breast lift & augmentation, and arm lift on January 14th. I’m paying $16,100. I will be 17 months post VSG. Not sure on my breast implant size yet. I’m a very deflated 34 D. I don’t really want to be bigger, just filled out instead of loose skin.

What to bring to the hospital?

I’ll echo the above recommendations and add soft stretchy leggings to wear under your hospital gown for walks in the halls.

    Mini bypass

Yes! I had my VSG in August of 2019. Last fall and winter I had a near constant cold. Sore throat, stuffy nose, watery eyes. Allergy meds didn’t help so I don’t think it was that. I asked my surgeon about it and she had no idea why. It finally resolved around March.

The changes we don't talk about

I agree with several of the above points. I find myself shopping way more, it’s so much fun buying cute clothes that I could never have worn before. Also, body dysmorphia. I feel so much worse now naked. I’m getting plastic surgery in January-a tummy tuck, breast lift & augmentation, and arm lift. I’m hoping it will help me feel better! If not, I’ll be seeking out therapy for it.
  9. I updated my old FitBit to the new Versa. Great sale on it at Costco! Also snagged some AirPods, which will be great for my walk/runs.

    Protein shake

The new Cinnamon Roll flavor of Premier Protein is also delicious mixed with cold brew coffee. My favorite breakfast!
  11. My favorite is Vitamin Water Zero. I buy it by the case at Costco. Each is 20oz, so four a day gets me really close to my fluid goal of 120oz/day. The rest I get from my morning protein shake + cold brew coffee concoction and a couple cups of tea.

    Coffee...oh how I miss it

My strong cold brew every morning mixed with my protein shake helps prevent constipation :) My doc is fine with it as long as I get at least 64 oz of non-caffeinated fluids in each day.
  13. My bat wings are epic! I can’t wait to finally feel comfortable in short sleeve or even sleeveless tops!
  14. I’m scheduled 1/14 for a tummy tuck, BL/BA and arm lift.
  15. I’m 14 months out and closing in on goal, so am still in weight loss mode. Here’s a typical day: 6am: Premier protein shake mixed with cold brew coffee 9am: Ooikos triple zero yogurt Noon: Frozen meal (I have 4 or 5 I rotate through, only can eat about 2/3 of a meal) 3pm: 1oz roasted pumpkin seeds 6pm: 3oz meat, 1/3 c veggies, sometimes a sm serving (1/4 cup-ish) whatever starch the family is having 8pm 2 cups popcorn I’m usually around 1100 calories or so, waking 15,000 steps/day and going to a kickboxing class 3x/week Although I’m still focused on losing about 9 more pounds I’m just a touch worried about moving in to maintenance and upping calories. I’m fortunate that my restriction is still in full force. I think I’ll have to up the cal content of my snacks and my meals completely fill me up already.

Can you eat Popcorn after Gastric Bypass?

I have popcorn most nights as a snack. I haven’t had any problems, and figure it’s a good source of fiber. My doctor doesn’t have a problem with it.

    Am I rushing into plastics?

I’m scheduled for a tummy tuck, BL/BA, and arm lift January 14. I’ll be 17 months post surgery. I’m working on losing my last 10 pounds, although my surgeons (both WLS and PS) said they’re comfortable with me having surgery at my current weight. I may be rushing, but it’s what I want and need to complete the final piece of my weight loss journey. I feel like that final big investment of money, pain, and time is going to be integral to my long term success. (There are several studies that show this to be the case).

    OOTD

I bought this vest on clearance at my hospital’s gift shop last year and have been waiting for it to fit, it’s a size medium. Also, just bought these size TEN (!!!) jeans yesterday. I getting sooo close to single digit sized pants! Sorry about the work bathroom photo, forgot to snap one at home this morning.

    Body Changes Post Surgery

Saggy skin is a reality for many of us post massive weight loss. I’ll take every wrinkle and sag over the extra 115 lbs any day. I’ll be having a Tummy Tuck, breast lift and arm lift in a couple months to take care of the extra skin.
  20. Yes, all at once. I ended up speaking with six surgeons in total, half said they’d do all the procedures at once, half said they wouldn’t. I’d prefer to just get it all done and over with.
  21. I will be 18 months post op when I have my breast lift/augmentation, tummy tuck, and arm lift in January. Both my plastic surgeon and Bariatric surgeon are supportive of this timeline, both state that patients who have PS post Bariatric surgery do better maintaining their weight in the long term. I’m so excited to be rid of my flappy bat wings! It was near 100 degrees today, yet I was in a long sleeved shirt to cover my awful arms :(

    Espresso w/premier shake Post op

My daily breakfast is a premier protein shake mixed with a Starbucks nitro cold brew. Yummy! My team is fine with it, as long as I get in my daily amount of non caffeinated fluids. As a plus, the strong coffee every morning helps me avoid the constipation issue many of us have post op :)

What did you lose -- than just weight?

High blood pressure, sleep apnea, and pre-diabetes.
  24. This morning I hit a new all time low BMI for me since I started gaining weight after my kids were born. My BMI is now 29.8 so I’m am now just overweight and no longer obese! I have 13.2 pounds left to get to my original goal, but think I’ll drop a further 5 from there to defend a 5 pound range. I’ve got PS scheduled in January, so right on track to reach my goal in October and then maintain a couple months prior to surgery. Feels soooooo good!!! On another note, the closer I get to goal, the more people notice when I’ve dropped smaller amounts. Early on I’d get a lot of comments every 20 pounds or so. Now it’s about every 5.
  25. kristieshannon

    No longer obese!

Yes, sizes are noticeable more quickly too! I feel like I just got in to my size 12 jeans and most pairs I have are already saggy in the waist. I’m only going to buy a couple pairs of pants in 10 since who knows where I’ll be after my tummy tuck. I’ve only dreamed of hitting single digits, but it now seems totally doable :)
