My one year in December 3 of last year

I’m so sorry you’re struggling. Have you had a check in visit with your surgical team and your dietician? That would be a good starting place if you haven’t. Go back to the basics, follow the guidelines you were given at the start of the process. Also, if you haven’t already, consider counseling and treatment for your depression. Looks like you’ve got a sweet buddy there who could be your walking partner to get in some activity each day! Hugs to you, keep coming back here for support ❤️

    Reassurance

It’s so normal to have these fears! I was close to having WLS about 10 years ago, but cancelled due to fear. I’m now about a year and a half out, and only regret not doing it sooner. My recovery was a breeze. I took 3 weeks off work, but could have gone back after two. Pain was minimal, more fatigue than anything else. I carefully followed my team’s plan and have lost at a steady rate. I started at 286 and am now at my doctor’s goal of 155. Loose skin was definitely a thing, and I had plastic surgery to take care of that two weeks ago. Even if I hadn’t been able to have PS, I would take the loose skin over the 131 extra pounds any day! The process isn’t easy, but so very worth it. I can walk, run, hike, bike, and dance with my husband. I can walk in to any store and buy clothes that I love rather than trying to find something that fits me. I’m so glad I conquered my fear to do this, it is worth it in every way.

    Apple cider vinegar

I’m taking the Pure brand, bought off Amazon. One gummy in the morning and one before bed.

    Apple cider vinegar

So this is quite anecdotal with a sample size of just me. I had heard that ACV could help with GERD. My surgeon had me on Prilosec for the first 3 months after my sleeve and then tapered me off of it. I started having occasional GERD. I didn’t want to go back on Prilosec. I read about ACV and gave it a try. I now take one gummy in the morning and one at night. Zero GERD for the last year since I have been taking it. It could totally be a coincidence, but to me it’s worth it to keep taking it.

Sure, I went to Dr. Alex Earle.

I had local consults and wasn’t thrilled with any of their results. Also, the cost was insane. My quotes in Seattle ranged from $30,000-$40,000. I paid $16,100 in Miami so even with travel costs I came out way ahead. I found a great doc there that I loved, and had lots of experience working with weight loss patients.

    Thighs after weight loss

I wear Bermuda shorts, and feel great in them. I don’t think I’d do short-shorts though. But I’m also 51, so Bermuda’s are age appropriate :)

    Thighs after weight loss

Mine aren’t great, I’ve always been “bottom heavy”. However, I had a tummy tuck a couple weeks ago and actually got some improvement in my thighs from that. Not sure if I’ll do a thigh lift down the road or just learn to live with it. Thigh lifts seem to be the most problematic plastic surgery. I’m going to keep working out for the next couple years and see what I can accomplish that way before making a decision.

    Time off work

I had a sleeve. Took 3 weeks off of work-I’m a nurse, but in a clinic so more of a desk type job. I could have gone back after 2 weeks.
  11. They have a good selection of nuts. I often have nuts of some sort as my afternoon snack, and have picked some up there.
  12. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24076675/ Have any of you seen this? My WL surgeon shared it with me. Makes me even more glad I had PS done!

Study re: benefits of PS after WLS

I agree, it’s probably a multitude of factors. My insurance paid for my VSG in full, so my financial skin in that game was nothing (although I wouldn’t discount the emotional cost and hard work along the way). However, saving up and then handing over thousands of my hard earned dollars will be a strong motivator to keep on track. And you’re right, my husband and I are fortunate enough to purchase high quality meats & produce, and can afford my kickboxing gym membership so those things help as well. Physiologically, I can also see where the reduction of quantity of fat cells could have effect, plus the additional tightening effect of the muscle repair I had in my abdomen makes my restriction even more pronounced.

Any suggestions for bras while losing?

TJ Maxx, Ross, and Marshall’s have bras for about $5. I bought lots there on my way down.

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

I still follow my general dietary guidelines. Protein first, with a goal of 70-80g/day. Next is veggies. Small amounts of fruit and other carbs. Generally I keep my calories at 1100-1200/day. I do make room for treats from time to time such as a glass of wine or a bite or two of my husbands dessert. I don’t feel like I’m on a diet anymore, I truly feel satisfied with what I’m eating and feel like it is livable In the long term.

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

I started with a BMI of 49.9. Had my sleeve surgery Aug of 2019. My BMI is now 26, which is right at the weight that my surgeon, PCP, as I set as my goal. I’ve had a steady loss all along, with a few short stalls. I still have a very strong restriction. I can eat most foods, but in very small quantities. Although I do experience some hunger, I don’t really have cravings and find it very easy to take one bite of something and leave the rest. The sleeve has worked for me just as designed.

    Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

I am a bit, I think that’s what’s causing the little crease above my belly button. However, it’s not too bad. I haven’t experienced the “swell hell” that I hear people talk about.

I wore mine for a couple days. It was really rubbing on my arm pits (I’ve got incisions there from my arm lift). Today I wore my abdominal binder again and some waist cincher leggings. I’ve ordered two pairs of shorts style fajas that’ll be delivered on Wednesday. The full body suit thing isn’t going to work for me until my arm pits are more healed up.

I have a long torso so this one piece over the shoulder style is really rubbing on my arm pits and pulling on my shoulders. I ordered a couple high waist shorts style fajas off of Amazon. I’m hoping they’ll be more comfortable!

I’m a nurse in a mental health & addictions clinic. I usually wear black jeans and a sweater of some sort to work. However, when I go back at 3 weeks post op I’m not sure I’ll be ready for jeans yet. I might have to pull out the scrubs again for awhile!
