As some of you know, I've been through a recent-ish divorce. After my plastic surgery in Jan my husband got weird, angry, super insecure and borderline abusive. I've started dating again and have met a really nice guy. I have disclosed to him about my WLS but not PS yet. Although my loose skin on my belly and arms is gone and my breasts are perky again, my thighs still show the evidence of my significant weight loss. Plus I've got all my PS scars. I've been seeing this guy for about a month. He is super sweet, funny, smart, and supportive. I'm having him over for dinner tonight at my place for the first time, and I imagine things are likely to progress to where he may be seeing said loose skin and scars. I'm so nervous! I'm for sure worried about rejection, about his reaction, etc. Any guidance for me? I'm totally confident and feel awesome fully dressed but am super nervous about being on full view by someone new for the first time in many, many years.

Post Surgery Skin Removal Surgery

I just re-read-I took your “guys” as the generic “guys”, not referring to actual dudes :) I think there have been a couple men to get PS as well. Hopefully some of them chime in with their experience! -
Post Surgery Skin Removal Surgery

There’s a whole forum on here for plastics! Lots of us have had it done :) I had mine in January of this year at about a year and a half after my WLS. I had a tummy tuck with muscle repair, breast lift & augmentation, and arm lift. I took 3 weeks off work. It was a little rough that first week back, but over all healing was smooth. Click on my name, I’ve posted before & after pics. -
The novelty hasn’t worn off

I was shopping at Costco today and walked up to a display of down vest type jackets. There was a woman looking at them as well. As I was digging through the pile she said “Oh, I already looked-they’re out of smalls in all colors”. Even two years post op it surprised and delighted me to have a stranger look at me and assess me as a size small. It made my day 😊 -
My daughter is getting married tomorrow (again, they had a tiny little COVID wedding last year, this is a re-do with all the relatives). Tonight is the very casual rehearsal dinner. I’m bound and determined not to look matronly. I’ll post my dress tomorrow :)

Perfect for a mud run! I still us scar tape too. It’s a good camouflage for the scars :)

Help! My surgeon says she will only perform gastric sleeve.
kristieshannon replied to crpowers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For what it’s worth, I was 49 when I had my surgery 5’3.5”, started at 286 and now 140. I had the sleeve and it worked well for me. -
Negative reactions to getting plastics.

I would equate the pain of the muscle tightening to a really hard an workout. It was sore for sure, but entirely tolerable. And just looking at me belly in the mirror without the big skin flap made all the discomfort worth it. -

I like these, you make them in a muffin tin so they are perfect portions. https://www.bunsinmyoven.com/low-carb-meatloaf/ -
Novaluna-respectfully, I’d suggest getting a second opinion about this. I’m a nurse in the big public health hospital in Seattle. Our head MD for infectious disease, as well as the head MD for public health in our county have recommended that immunocompromised individuals be vaccinated, as well as receive the booster vaccine. Both MDs are part of UW Medicine, which is a large medical research institution. I know of many colleagues and patients who are immunocompromised who are fully vaccinated and will be receiving booster vaccines in the coming weeks. I’m glad you are taking precautions for sure!

Plastic Surgery Financing: What did you choose?
kristieshannon replied to Soon2bFit21's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I paid $16,100 for a tummy tuck with muscle repair, breast lift & augmentation, and arm lift. My surgeon wrote me a letter of medical necessity relating the need for muscle repair to ease chronic low back pain. Although my insurance wouldn’t pay for it, I was able to use my flexible spending account funds ($2500) I saved and paid cash for about $7000 by working overtime shifts at my hospital and charged the rest to Care Credit with 0% financing for 12 months. I’ll have it paid off before that so won’t pay any interest. -
My guess is that it may be related to medications, as many of the mental health meds have weight gain or increased appetite as a side effect. There are some that are considered metabolically neutral-check in with your psychiatrist about that. On the other hand, 16 lbs above “normal” BMI is really not bad! Many, many bariatric patients never reach a “normal” BMI and their surgeon will tell them that going from obese to just over weight is a success. Congrats on all you’ve done so far!

That seems low to me! I wasn’t given an exact calorie goal either, but a goal to get in 70-80gms of protein per day. My protein shake is 30 grams protein, 160 calories. Chicken breast for 3 ounces is about 165 cals, 30 grams protein. An Ooikos triple zero yogurt is 100 cals, 15 grams protein. So that gets you at 75 grams protein and 425 calories. Not sure how I could have possible met my protein goal for only 300 calories.

I am in the midst of a cross-country move so missed posting about my two year anniversary a couple days ago. I had a VSG in Seattle on 8/12/2019. My starting weight was 286, today I’m 140. Although I lost my excess weight, I gained so much in the process. I am happy, healthy, and active. My only regret is not doing this sooner. I’m off all medication and no longer have sleep apnea. My blood pressure and resting heart rate are that of an athlete. I’ve never felt better in my adult life. I had plastic surgery in January to remove the excess skin and I’m so glad that I did that as part of this process. I still weigh myself daily and track all of my intake. I have a little more wiggle room now for a treat now & then, but in general eat a pretty healthy diet making sure to get in my protein and fluids every day.

Husband refuses to drop me off or pick me up from the hospital. Now what?
kristieshannon replied to DoodlesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, this! I’m a nurse and live in Seattle. If you happen to be near here I’d be happy to be your surgery support person. -
Like catwoman I had lots of excess skin after 140lbs weight loss. It was hide able in clothes, not so much out of clothes. I had surgery to have it removed from my abdomen and arms, and will have my thighs done next year. Even if I couldn’t have had plastic surgery the weight loss was worth it. I’d take loose skin any day over those 140lbs.

Stupid BMI requirements/Food funerals!
kristieshannon replied to lizonaplane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve read a couple folks who were close say they wore ankle weights to their weigh in appointment to make sure they were over the BMI requirement. 🤷♀️
