    Let's Track Our Miles!

Yup, I specifically asked if it is OK to do the Green Lake loop walk. I'm a super compliant patient! Being a nurse I know how important it is to follow the Dr.'s instructions, I have certainly seen complications when people don't! Luckily our summers here in Seattle are pretty mild, yesterday topped out at 70 degrees.

    Let's Track Our Miles!

I hear you, and I agree-I did message my surgeon’s office this week and got the ok to “walk as much as tolerated”. However, I’m still on my original 10lb weight lifting limit for another month. Which is OK with me because it means hubby gets to do the big chores around the house 😂

    Let's Track Our Miles!

I should have added that I was able to walk this loop pre-op, so I actually haven’t increased my activity too much since surgery. I was just surprised I was able to do it again this soon. Even during these last two years at my heaviest weight I’ve been able to maintain a fairly decent activity level (short hikes, whitewater rafting trips, I even walked a 1/2 marathon 2 years ago). I want to get back up to that 1/2 marathon level of fitness again over the next 13 months so I can do it again next September. I know I need to take it slow, I figure I’ve given myself plenty of time to build up to it.

    Let's Track Our Miles!

Yes, just one loop around and the rest from regular daily activity-although I’ve started being conscious of parking farther away from the entrance of the grocery store etc. to get in more steps. I’m planning to up it to twice around the lake in the next month or so. I’m pretty please though that just 12 days out from surgery that I can do it once fairly easily!

    Let's Track Our Miles!

We have a lake in Seattle that has a 3 mile loop walking path around it. It’s a great place to exercise and people watch! I think I’ll do it again today.

    Let's Track Our Miles!

I love this-count me in! Yesterday was 3.58 miles for me. I’m going to go walk a lake loop trail today so it will be higher today. Good job so far everyone! I have a goal of running a half marathon race that I’ve walked twice in the past (half ran it one of those times). I’m shooting for the Bellingham Bay 1/2 marathon in September of 2020, which will be 13 months post op.

    August 2019 Check In

I’m so pleased with how I’m feeling! I’m sleeping so soundly at night, waking up with energy. The aprox. 500 cal/ day I’m getting in feels “just right”, I’m satisfied without being too full. We were at our beach house since Saturday, and I don’t have a scale there. I stepped on this morning and was so excited to see I’m down 9.2 lbs since surgery on 8/12! Now a total of 31.2 since my first surgeon visit in February of this year. I have another week off from work. On the agenda is to check out gyms in my area, pick one, and get signed up. I have my 2 week check up next Tuesday which includes a diet advancement class. I’ll be glad to progress beyond my full liquid diet!

    Birth control

I love my Mirena IUD. I’m on my third one. My surgical was well aware that I have, and had no problems with it.

How many calories do you eat a day?

I’m just over one week out and am at just about 500 cal/day. B: 1/2 Dannon Light & Fit yogurt 40 cal 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal L: same as breakfast, 120 cal S: 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal D: 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal 1/2 c tomato soup 75 cal S: Outshine popsicle 25 cal Next week starts the soft food diet, I’ll be very interested to see what I get in when it’s actual bulkier food rather than fluids only, I suspect my cal intake might drop a bit.

    August 2019 Check In

I was sleeved 8/12, went home the next day. I ran a fever ever day through Friday, which has now resolved. First 3 days I was taking two naps a day. Now I’ve been 2 days with no naps. I’m sleeping well at night. Pain is now minimal, still a bit in my right shoulder. Lots of gas, well relieved with gas-x. Last 3 days my intake has been: B: 1/2 Dannon Light & Fit yogurt + 1/2 Premier protein shake ( takes about an hour to get this in) L: other 1/2 of yogurt & shake S: 1/2 Premier protein shake D: other 1/2 protein shake + 4 oz protein broth or protein tomato soup I’m getting in about 50 oz if water per day 1 more week of full liquids before I get advanced to a soft food diet. I’m up to about 7000 steps/ day I’ve got 2 more weeks of work off, will go back after Labor Day

Any August 2019 people out there?

I’m doing pretty well on water intake, 60 oz today. I had 22 oz of protein shake yesterday, I’ll get in 26 oz today. I tried a sugar free popsicle but it was way too sweet. Yesterday I got 2200 steps in, today I’m at 4200. Yesterday I took two naps, today only one. Baby steps, but I’ll take it!

Any August 2019 people out there?

I’m post op day #3. I went home about 24 hours post op. Tuesday and Wednesday were rough. Pain, and soooooo tired. I took two naps yesterday! I also walked around Costco and later in the evening to the end of my block and back. Yesterday I managed 22oz protein shake (total of 60gms) and 45 oz water. I was quite queasy by bedtime, but a dose of zofran took care of it. Still not down to my pre-op weight, hoping the rest of that IV fluid flushes out soon so I can the scale start to move!

Any August 2019 people out there?

I’m currently sitting in the pre-op area. Doc is running behind, should have been in the OR 48 minutes ago. I just want to get this done and over with!
  17. I have a Starbucks skinny cinnamon dolce latte on my way to work every morning. The nutrition info for it is 100 calories, 14g carbs, 9g protein. I started my pre-op diet yesterday. My Dr. states for the 3 weeks prior to surgery I should have at least 100g protein and less than 50g carbs per day. They are OK with coffee. I'd like to swap this out with something lower in carbs. I can't drink plain black coffee. Has anyone had any success mixing protein powder with their coffee for a latte type substitute? If so, do have suggestions for one with the best flavor/best mixes in to hot liquids?

Any August 2019 people out there?

My doc required 3 weeks high protein/very low carb diet, then clear liquids only the day before surgery. My surgery time tomorrow isn’t until 1 pm. I can continue with clears until 9 am tomorrow.

    Constipation

(Nurse here, have cared for many post op patients with constipation) -make sure you’re getting enough water. Most meds to relieve constipation need water to help them work. -walk, walk, walk -strong coffee if you can drink it If the above doesn’t work, you can try the following meds -Miralax -Milk of Magnesia -Dulcolax -senna -glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories

How do you have your coffee?

I posted this on another thread earlier today-Starbucks nitro cold brew + premier protein cookies & cream = yummy!

    Sweat more daily

Not possible. Pre-op and a huge potty mouth.
  23. As a newbie (heading to surgery Monday morning) I can’t tell you how helpful and insightful I find this thread to be be. Thank you to those further down the path from me for clearing the way, letting me know struggles are ok and to be expected, and for helping me to get in the right headspace. I sincerely appreciated your openness!

    Any Early August Sleevers?!?!

8/12 crew-how's your pre-op diet going? I'm pleased to find that each day my hunger is lessening. I've dropped my calorie count on MFP down from 1350/day to 1100 day. Hoping that slowly cutting down before hand (plus eating much healthier in general) will be good prep for the post op period. I'm not looking forward to Sunday though, day before surgery and I'm on clear liquids only.
