Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass
kristieshannon replied to NYCGirl9269's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I still follow my general dietary guidelines. Protein first, with a goal of 70-80g/day. Next is veggies. Small amounts of fruit and other carbs. Generally I keep my calories at 1100-1200/day. I do make room for treats from time to time such as a glass of wine or a bite or two of my husbands dessert. I don’t feel like I’m on a diet anymore, I truly feel satisfied with what I’m eating and feel like it is livable In the long term. -
Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass
kristieshannon replied to NYCGirl9269's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started with a BMI of 49.9. Had my sleeve surgery Aug of 2019. My BMI is now 26, which is right at the weight that my surgeon, PCP, as I set as my goal. I’ve had a steady loss all along, with a few short stalls. I still have a very strong restriction. I can eat most foods, but in very small quantities. Although I do experience some hunger, I don’t really have cravings and find it very easy to take one bite of something and leave the rest. The sleeve has worked for me just as designed. -
Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

I am a bit, I think that’s what’s causing the little crease above my belly button. However, it’s not too bad. I haven’t experienced the “swell hell” that I hear people talk about. -

Yeah, I’m loving the boobs (and so is my hubby!). Once they finish the drop & fluff process I think they are going to be pretty awesome :) -

Such a good feeling to get those drains out. I love your jacket! -

I wore mine for a couple days. It was really rubbing on my arm pits (I’ve got incisions there from my arm lift). Today I wore my abdominal binder again and some waist cincher leggings. I’ve ordered two pairs of shorts style fajas that’ll be delivered on Wednesday. The full body suit thing isn’t going to work for me until my arm pits are more healed up. -

I have a long torso so this one piece over the shoulder style is really rubbing on my arm pits and pulling on my shoulders. I ordered a couple high waist shorts style fajas off of Amazon. I’m hoping they’ll be more comfortable! -

I’m a nurse in a mental health & addictions clinic. I usually wear black jeans and a sweater of some sort to work. However, when I go back at 3 weeks post op I’m not sure I’ll be ready for jeans yet. I might have to pull out the scrubs again for awhile! -
I buy the Costco brand vitamin water with zero sugar. I can’t do plain water, but I drink 4-5 of these every day. Luckily with the Costco case pricing they’re only about .25/bottle!

May of 2017 vs today. -
As I’ve started to feel better about myself I’m no longer only reaching only for black or solid color clothes. I found these fun leggings online, decided “why not?”

My PS gave me this one. It’s an XL. That freaked me out a bit because in tops I’m a small or medium, size 8 jeans now. The nurse said they run small. -

I took my drains out last night-what a relief! I’ll be putting on my faja today for the first time-excited to see how my waist looks in it. Will post an update pic after my shower today. My TT, breast, and right arm incisions are looking good. I had a little complication during surgery. When my surgeon started to suture up my left arm my hand started turning dusky-meaning it wasn’t getting good circulation. He ended up leaving about a 3 inch open wound to allow for swelling. It will heal, but will need a scar revision at some point. I’m dressing it each day and it seems to be doing ok so far. -
Drains after surgery
kristieshannon replied to njlimmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same. No drain for me after my VSG, but I just got to take mine out last night after my plastic surgery. Such a relief! If you do have one in post op, they’re more of an annoyance than anything and they do not hurt at all coming out. -
Am I ruining my sleeve already???
kristieshannon replied to KellyMarie8288's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no problem getting in my liquids from day one either. I really started to feel my restriction kick in when I started solids. 16 months later it’s still strong, and I’m down 131 lbs. Just keep following your surgeons guidelines! -
I know you said you don’t want to travel, but would you consider Las Vegas? I’ve seen lots of mention of Blossom Bariatrics here and on other WL forums. I believe they have an all-inclusive package for self-pay folks that is fairly reasonable. They are also a pretty quick (and cheap) flight from the PNW.

Goal rewards—suggestions?
kristieshannon replied to GreenThumb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! This was my biggest reward! I worked hard losing my excess weight, and picked up a ton of OT shifts to pay for it. It’s so worth every ache & pain from working out, every extra minute on the job, and every time I’ve made the healthy choice as to what I put in my mouth. Yay for big rewards! -

kristieshannon replied to kristieshannon's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Yeah, it was a nearly 7 hour flight. Too much time in a really uncomfortable seat! I’ll be taking my own out, I’m a nurse so it’s no big deal. -

Today’s been a bit of a rough day for me. We flew home from Ft Lauderdale to Seattle. My back is super sore from the plane ride, and I still have both my drains. I feel like once those come out I’ll be feeling better. It’s a bumpy ride for sure! Hopefully a good nights sleep in my own bed will help me feel better tomorrow.
