  1. You are doing great! 20lbs in a month! When I went for my 1 month appt. I was losing slow and the dr. Said it is normal to even gain a few pounds then. The body hits a stall for a bit. Everyone loses at different rates but looks like you are doing wonderful. It helps if you fill in your weight stats too so people with similar stats can help you more. The stall will pass just keep up the good work.

Congrats to you!!!! How many sizes did you come down? I was wondering how much weight a person would have to lose per pants size....

When giving away my clothes I had 1 or 2 dress pants in an 18. Some 16, a ton of 14. The 12’s I had are too loose and fall down. Now I have 2 pair of jeans that fit they are size 11. I carried the bulk of my weight in my belly. I lost a bunch in my legs, face, butt, arms, lost a bunch in my belly but still carry it there. So hoping that comes off. The surgeon said it will. I guess it depends where you carry your weight. From shirts I was xl to 2x ladies top. (Not woman’s) depending on the shirt. Now a large and I had on a medium shirt the other day. So that all depends on the cut. My husband loves it he keeps rubbing and squeezing me can’t believe how small I got. Yet still have 30 to go. I was off my blood pressure meds 1 week after surgery. That was amazing. Can’t wait to see my A1c.

  3. I just had my 3 month appt. My start weight was 203 my surgery 7-8-19 was 193 I am currently 169. I was concerned I didn’t lose enough but he said I am right on track and it has a lot of factors. The start amount has a lot to do with how quickly the weight comes off. My surgeon asked me if I would have done this again.., absolutely! I finally feel normal and not hungry all the time. I have more energy, sleep less and went down sizes. Such a big difference. Can’t wait till more comes off!

If you have a blender or nutribullet something like that, try a Protein Shake blended with ice. I switch it up and add my collagen, and a little extra Protein Powder in with my Protein shake. I also mix in fruit or frozen fruit in as well. I also do that with my crystal light drinks too it makes it easier for me. It seems so much easier on my system. I think I still drink too fast even though it is much slower so it really helps.

  5. I did not expedite my timeline afraid I would tear or hurt myself as my surgeon explained how important it was to stick to the timeline for foods. I found and still find mixing a Protein Shake with ice, my collagen, and Peanut Butter powder. It really helps. Sometimes you are thirsty and it feels as hunger. I had pains below my stomach that it felt empty all the time. So the triple zero yogurt I had all the time as well as the smoothie out of the ice and shakes really helped. It does get better. Hang in there, best of luck to you all.

at 192 - and even at 203 - you would have been what we refer to as a "lightweight". With that starting BMI, you're going to lose much slower than someone who starts at over 300 lbs. I think you're doing great!

Thank you! I had a lot of health issues! Thankfully this got me off my blood pressure meds in one week. I feel so much better, so much more energy. My A1c went to 7.2 so was being diagnosed with diabetes which my Mother had very bad. I have psoriatic arthritis so just the extra weight makes everything hurt much more. I was taking meloxicam (for inflammation) every day, I still take the Stelara and will always be on something for that., however, I rarely take the meloxicam anymore. My cholesterol and triglycerides were high so I was on a horrible path. I didn’t really eat fast food or junk. I cook everything but just ate too much. So this has helped tremendously and I should have my bloodwork back to,Oreos to see how everything is doing now. I did this for my health, although looking better is a definitely a plus. Good luck to you as you are doing wonderfully!

I lost slowly and it was difficult because it made no sense and it was very frustrating at times. In hindsight, I am glad it took longer because I don’t take a single pound lost for granted.

I do think there are pitfalls with both. There is a risk of giving up when the weight loss is slow.

I was 192.8 on surgery day 6/8/19 and it will be 3 months next week I am 169. A big difference between now and the 203 start. It just seems so slow compared to others with the sleeve. I have my 3 month appt. with the surgeon next week and nervous I didn’t lose enough even though he told me to take it slow I have a year to take it off. At least at the 169 I am in the overweight category which I am very happy with for now. It is a little frustrating not seeing it come down. I am hoping I can continue losing as you did! Congratulations on your accomplishments it is something you work at every day.

  8. This is a question for your surgeon and nutritionist. This is way too important to take advice from someone without the proper education in this field. Let them know of the discrepancies between the dietary information given and go from there. It is your health make sure you get the proper advice.

I will say I recently had a stall and I on my own cut back my shakes and was getting Protein thru yogurts etc. I had no idea there is a difference between how your body works with Liquid Protein and food protein. I upped my shakes to 2 a day and have been losing again. I would call and let your surgeon office know and schedule and appointment with your nutritionist. Good luck to you.

  9. I had my sleeve 7/8/19 I was 193 day of surgery. Today I am 170. My surgeon said I should lose 5 to 10 lbs a month and as I lose I would lose more slowly. He said for me not to be in a hurry as I have a year to take it off. I guess that’s the standard time people take off the most. I had a big stall and talked with my nutritionist and went back to 2 shakes a day and it is coming off again. When I said to the assistant I was afraid I wouldn’t lose any more she said it’s all numbers you will. So overall all I am down 33 since I started this journey. The best decision I ever made. I think you will be fine.

    Hi guys!

My Name is Steph, I recently started my journey to have gastric sleeve on December. My BMI is 35 so my doctor told me I can’t lose weight or my insurance will deny my surgery. This is so stressful. I tried to slowly cut off sugars to get started some how, but when I went for my visit (have to do 6 visits as per my insurance) I lost 4 pounds. December seems so far away. Any ideas to get started on my journey but maintaining my actual weight?

I was in the same situation. I are good. Weighed myself constantly so I didn’t go below the 35 BMI until approved for surgery. The hard part was I wasn’t able to gain weight either. Stay the same or lose very little. Once approval paper is in you should be good to lose weight on the preop diet. I was anyways. I did see someone on here had they were weighed the day of surgery and canceled so make sure you get the requirements from your insurance in writing and ask your surgeon. Good luck!

  11. I really like the triple net zero yogurt. It has 15 grams Protein. They have a bunch of different flavors and I like all of them. It is nice to have a change up the flavors. I have a yogurt and a shake daily. That way I know I have my 45 grams of protein. Many times I mix my shake in the nutribullet with ice, my collagen and Protein Powder , msm and a bit of the PB2 fit powdered Peanut Butter. That boosts my protein way up. It is hard when you aren’t eating much I try to make the most of my foods with protein. I usually am over 100 with not really trying.3F4C3022-0E0D-4642-9C69-94FF34620F20.thumb.jpeg.2ac568e83e700466a05c1a096d053b03.jpeg

  12. I don’t eat beef so I use ground turkey for everything. The lettuce I would leave out for a while but you can have ground turkey at soft foods. I had many of my usual recipes with ground turkey. Turkey chili, turkey taco meat in a soft flour wrap etc. I am not a person that rarely purchases premodern foods but I did buy the precooked grilled fajitas chicken from Sams or aldi as they are great for throwing a little bit in microwave with a slice of cheese. Or microwave till cooked. Put on a flour tortilla with cheese and put in the air fryer till cheese melted. I buy the small flour tortillas and don’t eat it all in one sitting. It’s still soft and so good to have real food. I also use the little slider Buns for lunch meat or grilled chicken and usually share the last bites with my dog. As he is loving my surgery. Lol. I am six weeks out from surgery tomorrow and honestly it doesn’t feel like I had surgery. I just eat less and no complications. Only issue is if I don’t eat something later in the evening I can wake up from being so hungry. So I usually have a yogurt or shake in the evening.

Anyone else extremely tired lately? I'm coming up on 6 weeks out and the last few days I'm exhausted. I'm taking Iron and getting plenty of sleep, Water and Protein so I dunno.

I had the sleeve 7\8 i was so tired the other day. I think from sonless calories etc that it just wears on you sometimes. I was exhausted and just felt so lazy. I get plenty of Protein, drink the fluids and eat enough. I just think its an adjustment. Other than that i feel auite normal like nothong happened.

Just wanted to see how july sleevers are making out?? i got mine july 10th and im down 37 since surgery. definitely stalled in the third week. im just onto solids. i take my time with every bite though. if i feel any type of discomfort i end it right there. does anyone else feel like this is too good to be true tho? i know its happening but its almost hard to fathom, that probably does make sense but its how i feel lol. one thing i know i need to stop doing is weighing myself everyday. its hard not too tho,

Hi, that is wonderful! You are doing great! I had my sleeve July 8th. I am on the regular bariatric diet / no restrictions. I don’t have any problems eating or drinking. Sometimes it is har dot get all the fluids if I forget to keep drinking. I stalled from weeks 3 and 4 (I only lost 4lbs those weeks) which the nurse practitioner said was normal and some even gain a pound or two. I was told I should lose between 8 and 10lbs a month and that’s about where I am at. I really feel normal for the most part and sometimes forget I had the surgery. I do eat mostly Protein, the triple net zero Oiko’s Greek yogurt and I also have a Premier Protein shake a day. I also mix in Protein Powder in my crystal light. I weigh myself constantly too which I shouldn’t. Lol

  15. My last surgeon appointment for my one month checkup I only lost 4lbs and was pretty upset. Here the nurse practitioner said she told the surgeon to prepare us that the weight just doesn’t come off in weeks 3 and 4 and sometimes people gain a pound or two. She said it will really start in the coming weeks. So I would say concentrate on Protein and fluids and hang on for the ride. Good luck to you.

  16. I went down 9lbs for my 2 week visit after surgery and only 4lbs for weeks 3 and 4. They told me that a stall after is normal and that it will pick back up again. Which it is finally moving down again. You are too soon after surgery as others have said but it will come off. Just be patient.

  17. I mentioned to 2 of my childhood friends that I was thinking about surgery and I go the you don’t need it. That was about 2 years ago. I have several health problems and when my sugar was up and was about to be diagnosed with diabetes I decided on surgery. I was diagnosed with diabetes after my a1c came back high again the 3rd time, right before surgery. I still only told my husband. I even got comments and dirty looks from nurses at some of the dr. Appointments I had to go to. I am 52 and married. I certainly am not doing this for looks. Yes that will be nice but not why I did this surgery. She will see as your health improves, you are able to do more, you feel better, look better, are more motivated and happier. I was taken off my blood pressure medicine one week after the sleeve surgery. I am hoping my sugar is controlled on my next bloodwork. I think sometimes people we love don’t want you to Chang for fear of losing you. Just hang in and she will see.

So, I recently went to see Dr. Vadim Gritsus about getting the sleeve done. I currently have Horizon NJ Health through NJ Family Care (medicaid) but I'm being cut off at the end of the month because my income is now over the limit. NJ Family Care suggested purchasing insurance through the Marketplace. That being said, I'm wondering if anyone knows of an insurance plan offered through the marketplace that has a 3 month or less requirement process for bariatric surgery. I've considered quitting my job in order to keep the medicaid but its just too drastic and I'd rather do the right thing and purchase insurance (the insurance through my job doesn't cover bariatric surgery). My BMI is 41 and I've already been told I qualify.

I would definitely speak with hr and see if they would cut your hours so you qualify for now. Unfortunately, the way things work if you pay for insurance you will be using a lot of your pay to cover the premium. Do what you need to do for yourself and your health. I have BCBS thru my husbands union and there actually isn’t a wait period with them anymore. I had very minimal copay. I think around $300 or so not counting the $20 copays here and there for dr. visits. Although, my surgeon had a wait period which actually was good in getting adjusted to the changes. If you find one that covers it check the copays too. Good luck to you, wishing you the best.

  19. Hi,

You don’t have that much more to go. I just hit my month visit and I am off all food restrictions. It is so worth it and you are almost there. If you are craving nachos etc. check your salt intake. I was getting dizzy and was told I didn’t have enough sodium. I added Gatorade zero to my diet. Also let your dr. Know about nausea as they can prescribe something for it. I was sent home from the hospital with something for nausea and something for upset stomach/gas. Keep plugging away it will get better.

  20. Hi, I started with a BMI of 36, I have/had a lot of health related issues and was diagnosed with type 1.5 diabetes and my mother had major complications from diabetes so I wanted to do whatever I could to stop it as best as I could. So for me the risks of surgery were nothing compared to the medical conditions I was developing and had. I had my sleeve surgery 7/8/2019 and within a week after surgery I was off my blood pressure medication. I am feeling better and it is so much easier now without being hungry all the time. It was so worth it! I think if you weigh the long term risks of being your weight now and the risk of the surgery you will have your answer. I was required to attend an informational meeting and a support group before my surgery and they have one every month at the hospital and it is free. Maybe ask your surgeon and do a google search for them in your area. I honestly would not wait. My surgeon explained how hard it was to not lose the weight but to keep it off and the huge percentage of people that put it back on and more. Long story short he explained when your stomach is a certain size and it’s empty your hormones are kicking in making you hungry and wanting to eat. So That’s why so many fail at keeping the weight off. I did Keto lost 25lbs then put that back on and a little more my Dr. told me “You just did more harm than good” that was the day of the diabetes and I made up my mind for surgery. So anyways, Make the change and keep moving forward Best of Luck to you!
