Good timing! Yes, I'm really private too so when I confide in or ask for opinions it's pretty serious to me. I won't make that mistake again!

My close family and a few coworkers know. Mostly the coworkers because they've went through it already and are mostly why I even considered really going thru with surgery.
Idk why I haven't told anyone else. I don't feel ashamed of it, but it's still something I feel should be private.

I have told nobody except my husband that I had VSG. I don't intend to either. I told everyone I was having hiatal hernia surgery because they have a similar recovery. I had already started on a good regimen of biking and Peloton and everyone knows I eat pretty healthy, so I actually started losing weight slowly a couple months before my surgery date (5/15/20). And I intend on keeping up those habits post-op. I'm just a very private person, I do not ever put my deeply personal business out there to anyone, people talk, people judge, and I don't need any of that negativity. I know I can't control what people say or think, but I can control what they know about me. Just my personal comfort level and my decision.

I'm going to have to do this. I love the support, input, and ideas that I find when I go to those groups, but knowing that a coworker could find me there causes anxiety.

Great idea on the fake FB accounts! I will have to do that too! I'm already secretive about WLS, and am looking forward to having plastic surgery after I hit goal, which of course will be another secret surgery!

I do too. While my real profile is locked down tight, I do like being anonymous in the groups.

10 months out. I’m still keeping my surgery a secret. Sort of. Besides for my parents siblings and two good friends I can trust. I don’t think it’s anyone’s business. When someone asks me what I’m doing I shrug it off or tell them I’m eating healthier- which is the honest truth.

I had a lap band removed one year ago this month, then had GSL on 9/4/19 with pre-op weight 268, DOS weight 263. I’m a slow loser as well. I am only down to 227. I exercise 5 days a week for 30-45 minutes with a trainer. I probably consume 1200 calories/day. No weight loss in 2 months. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Suggestions?

I’ve vaped many times. And smoked. But it burns my lungs and I cough to much. That’s why I turned to edibles.

I have told only a few family members and one friend. I’m two years out, lost 123 pounds and no one has raised an eyebrow bc it is such a gradual process. You don’t need to tell anyone you don’t want to know. I’m glad I didn’t tell anyone else. It adds pressure and judgement.

I live alone and 1 1/2 hrs from the hospital and know I can't make that trip on my own right after surgery. Family is scattered and I wouldn't ask them to make the trip, and have to quarentine before returning home. I do have the benefit of being retired, so there are no nosey co-workers.

A close friend of mine had the surgery and told me.. She started sharing pictures of people who had gone through with it and how great they looked. She recommended that I see if I can get it done since I am always complaining about my weight.
The process to get started went pretty smoothly and I was super excited about the whole thing.. Made a post on FB and shared the news with everyone on my weight loss and that I was going to get surgery..
I also shared that it was going to be postponed due to the pandemic and haven't updated anyone on my new date or even any weight loss/weight gain besides my husband now.. which is honestly what I wish I had did from the beginning. I know there is a lot of judgement behind getting surgery due to ignorance and have already heard a few negative responses to the news.
I hate the idea of lying to friends/family, but may just say that I didn't go through with it and that I just started eating less and exercising more.. I don't know!

It's only been a day!! I promise it will get better!!
Take small sips, and take gasX in addition to the prescribed pain meds. You will start feeling better soon! It took me about a week to be completely pain-free, and then after that it was just fatigue. Prepare for lots of naps!!
    Good luck!!

I'm a 35 year old male 6'0" tall and starting weight 300. I've struggled all my life trying to lose weight and was eager to get this surgery and start anew. I had my surgery yesterday and am feeling today like I didn't have a good understanding of how intense this recovery was going to be, when I met with the doctor he said how easy someone like me would make it look. I thought it was an in and out easy surgery but I stayed over night and know I'd get dehydrated if it weren't for the IV. Every sip of Water I take hurts with intense gas pain. When does this get better? What should I expect from here? Going to talk to the doctor soon. Trying to stay positive and focus on why I did this.

I'm still pretty new to this (4 months post OP), but this has definitely been the best decision I've ever made with regard to weightloss.
I had GERD prior to surgery (which is why I chose RNY vs Sleeve), and it's completely gone! I haven't even needed a TUMS since having the surgery! I haven't had dumping, but I also don't crave sweets anymore which seem to cause people to dump. I have had "the slimes" which is when I eat just one bite too many, and I end up hypersalivating, and sometimes throwing up. That hasn't happened in over a month though, probably b/c I'm better at listening to my body.
As for loose skin, I'm sure I will have it, and I look forward to getting a tummy tuck/boob job someday!!

I never liked edibles, I preferred to inhale and exhale. I also liked the sensation of smoking, oral fixation and etc., it comes down to preference. Edibles didn't allow me enough control of my high and it also felt different from the high I obtained from smoking. I have edibles that someone bought me for my birthday last year, I've been giving them away to my friends who do partake in edibles.
If it takes 4 hours for you to experience the high from edibles, indulge before you are actually ready to feel the effects. It may take some planning, but you can make it work for you.

I have a few questions for you to pose to yourself, from a viewpoint of support for you as a fellow member of this community that you are lovingly accepted into.
Do you think his behavior is respectful, loving, uplifting towards you?
You do know that you aren't his property and don't need his "consent" to prioritize yourself or your health?
Does he have a fetish for bigger women and is your losing weight a turnoff for him (physically and mentally)?
Is he genuinely a friend who sincerely supports you with other endeavors in your life, without needing to personally gain/benefit from you/it?
Does he encourage you to build your confidence and self esteem daily?
    Does he encourage your individuality?
Does he support you having healthy outside relationships with your family, colleagues and etc.?
Do you feel comfortable discussing your individual dreams, goals, achievements and vision for your life/future independent of his benefit?
Do you feel uplifted after talking to him and like he's a positive light in your life?
These are a few things to ask yourself and be honest with yourself about how you are truly feeling. 5 years in a relationship doesn't mean that you are being loved, supported and respected by your mate. I know that we don't know the entire history of your relationship, but he sounds cruel and controlling. His punishment that he's imposing upon you and his request to not be contacted until you can explain yourself to him what he will benefit from you is not the behavior exhibited by a person who cares for someone. He sounds insecure, manipulative and insensitive to your need to get your health on track. He's right there in the dictionary under narcissist!!! His attitude towards you and yes your mother too is disrespectful and you are worthy of being respected, loved and supported. You should be celebrated by your partner for your accomplished weight loss thus far and please don't dream of sabotaging your success and trying to stop your journey. We will cheerlead, shout to the mountain tops and yell praises for you to win!!
You are worthy, beautiful and deserving of whatever your heart desires.
I wrote this with the intention of being a supporter of your journey and not to preach or judge. This is the judgment free zone, I just don't like bullies who rain on other people's happiness and blessings.
