  1. Wait patiently and work on lifestyle modifications. Try getting some walking in, start eliminating things from your diet that you won't be able to have after surgery. I found that this was very helpful. Recovery is hard enough without going through withdrawal from cravings. Give up the sugar, simple starches, caffeine, soda, alcohol.
If dieting worked for you, you would have already lost the weight and kept it off by now. Like many of us, you have probably lost and regained many times. All that does is wreck your metabolism and short circuit the stomach-brain transmissions, making permanent weight loss nigh unto impossible. The time will past quickly, with holidays right around the corner, and starting a new job. Hang in there!
Thanks for advice. I have been eating more than ever have. Don't know if it's my nerves meds or what. I need try to get some control and I will try some of your recomedations.

  2. I may have to push my surgery to February. Starting a new job and the surgery is to close tothe date I have in October to take off. Then the holidays. Plus said January would be hard to get any time off. So I am going to call tommorow, see what February looks like. That's so long away. Maybe I can try a diet once more. Don't know what to do. I already had to change from August to October now all the way till February. I will have a secondary insurance from my work by then. Diet or patiently await till February?

  3. I can't speak to the liquid diet pre-op because I didn't have to do that, but I can tell you what I packed. I put a few pairs of underwear, socks, some loose shorts and shirts as well as a comfy sports bra. I didn't wear any of it. I also brought Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, and other small toiletries because hospital stuff sucks but again, all I used was the toothbrush and toothpaste. I brought a book too but didn't read it. If I wasn't sleeping I was walking on the unit, during the other times I played on my phone. I didn't even watch TV while I was there.
I was talking liquid portion after surgery. I don't have to do a pre diet either. hope I haven't gained. Thanks for list. Someone said take gasx. 37days.

You will not be able to have any form of NSAIDs after surgery. I have terrible arthritis but had to stop taking meds due to gastritis. I toke mine for years and boy did I hurt after stopping!

Yes you do. I was almost crippled and I want go back to work no on disability.

I take turmeric and it truly works! I have horrible arthritis in my hands and knees. Do yourself a favor and try it. Key is that it must also contain bioperine (black pepper) in order to absorb it.

I have been using it for years now.

I will have to try. I have two kinds in the cabinet haven't tried yet.

Likewise for my Lower Limbs- but No One Updated my other joints - Right Rotator cuff repaired- Left one on List right after my Ganglion Cyst removal on this coming Tuesday- it Hurts and Worse its location is making my Left Thumb go Numb- this is the " GOOD" thumb- the Right one post- joint removal and rebuild, will remain 85% efficient. I MAY NEVER PINCH PEOPLE AGAIN - not that I go out of my way to do it now- but Fine Motor Skills are terrible to lose!

You sound like me. No cyst though. My Dad has them operated on, their no joke. Prayers for your surgery

Following this topic bc it's of interest to me.

I'm wanting to know about beyond Aleve and other NSAIDS. I'm curious about the "big guns" biologic medications for like Rheumatoid Arthritis which I have. Remicade IV is my drip - but haven't been able to get my infusion for months due to surgeries (2 including the GB RNY) which has left me reeling in inflammatory pain off and on.... I'm hopeful though, bc although RA is autoimmune, I know the extra fat doesn't help!

I was in so much pain I couldn't stand but he gave me cortisone shots in both knees. NSAIDS that are the lowest as far as hurting the lining of your stomach. I guess if I am still hurting after I have surgery I will then have to have knees operated on. If insurance approved going do some more weekly silicone shots.

I have had both my thumbs rebuilt. Mine was a tendon transfer where they remove the thumb joint and replace it with a tendon in the forearm. I have a little trouble with jars but otherwise not bad. Therapy helped a lot!

I had that surgery in January

  9. I hope that's my case, my surgeon told me not to take any more arthritis meds. I haven't since May.

If afterwards still in pain are we allowed to take any meds?

When I cut out coffee, it's usually cold turkey but I use tasty close alternatives

The Postum is the superior one but usually quite hard to find. Ive drank it since childhood & the company stopped producing it about a decade ago , but i found links on Amazon so maybe they started again.

    Cafix is my runner up.

    Good Luck 💜

Thanks for recommendations. I also am going have issues in the bubbly of the carbonation. One step at a time.

About three weeks prior to surgery I stopped all caffeine. It wasn't bad so I thought, what the heck, I'll just start again and then stop a couple days before surgery. Big mistake. BIG! Massive headaches and withdrawals. Now I only drink Decaf and even stay away from tea because I figure my body is used to not having it!

The headaches are so bad but hope I will be able to stay off my diet cokes. I've drank them for 16yrs. Alot of food addiction trying to break before October.

I thought it was going to be more difficult than it actually was. I quickly found that drinking Decaf took care of my "addiction" and trust me, I drank 2 of the monster energy drinks every day in addition to my morning coffee(s). Keep your eyes on the long term goal. It's amazing what getting the proper amount of sleep will do for your caffeine addictions. I had to change that as well. Fortunately for me, the same time I had to give up caffeine I also got my APAP machine, so that helped with my sleepiness as well.

    Good luck to you.

I have bad sleep issues maybe getting of caffeine will help.

I weaned myself gradually off it. 1/4 Decaf, 3/4 caffeinated for a week or two, then 1/2 Decaf, 1/2 caffeinated for another week or two, and so on until I was just drinking decaf.

I will eventually need to stop decaffeinated and drink just Water I guess. What did your nutritionists say about not drinking decaffeinated either or is it ok.

  14. I am not having fun coming of caffeine before surgery. Probably after the headaches go away I will be fine. Then the artificial sweeteners will be next. I have 2 months so I am sure I can do this. I am not required to do a liquid diet b4 hand. I might do it anyway just to prepare my liver to shrink down. I hope I have not gained since last visit. How did you do in breaking your caffeine addiction?
