  1. Hello, Has anyone experienced stomach pain or should I say pouch pain. I am almost 17 moths post-op and had my check up last Tuesday. Had lost 13 more pounds and all labs were great. Waist 28”, wt. 163 their scales are always 6#’s more than my scales. Stopped taking my protonix ( doctor left it up to me/as needed) my stomach has felt bad ever since. Started back taking this morning but stomach still feels bad. Has anyone experienced this and do you suggest maybe Probiotics? Will I have to take the rest of my life? If not feeling any better by Friday will call physician. Thanks everyone!

I'm getting comments about being too thin, and the "don't lose anymore weight!" comment crops up a lot. I've been maintaining my 100 pound loss the last three months, and going to the gym a lot, so not losing weight but gaining muscle which is making me look slimmer. I'm hoping my fat redistributes, as I look a bit "stringy" with my muscles and loose skin haha. I'm expecting a talking to from my surgeon when I go for my 12 month follow up in a few weeks, as I was told to stop losing weight 12kg ago. I didn't have a lot of choice, it just came off.....and now I'm working hard to keep it off.

daisyJane I haven't exercised for fear of losing way much more, I am 5'8" and already look like Olive Oil from Popeye! lololol I could use some firming up here and there but afraid I will just melt away! Lolol

    +1

More anecdotal evidence: I looked positively skeletal (esp my face and neck) when I finished weight loss phase. Months later, I looked much more filled in (despite the fact that I even weighed 10+ lbs less later on). I suspect it was the introduction of some carbs back into my diet....

ms.sss yes that is what family is saying haven't told any of them of the surgery and made my husband sware not to tell, I just tell them I'm on a Soup diet! lolol their response is you need to add meat to that soup! lolol Thank you for the feedback!

Firstly, congratulations are your weight loss. So wonderful.

Apologies to those who love them, but Protein shakes & powders are awful. I just couldn’t tolerate them at all. But, if you eat a balanced diet & include Protein in every meal, you shouldn’t need protein powders or shakes. Plus, you get lots of other necessary nutrients eating real food. I aim for 50g a day based on my weight. (Some guideline recommend 0.8/kg, others 1g & others recommend 1.2g if you’re older or very physically active.) I get in about 10g at Breakfast, 10-15g at lunch, 15+g afternoon snack (yogurt), 15-20g for dinner. If it’s a low day, may be I missed a meal or snack, or wasn’t hungry, I’ll have a Protein Bar for a late supper or some chia pudding.

My dietician suggested adding skin milk powder to my milk to boost my protein & calories. I find it makes the milk taste sweeter, which I don’t like, but it’s fine for when I make chia pudding. (I whisk a big heaped Soup spoon of milk powder in a cup of milk.) You might like to try that too instead of protein powders.

I did lose more than I intended when I was trying to find my sweet spot to successfully maintain. It doesn’t take much for me to lose or gain so I’m very routine with what & when I eat. My doctors have suggested I put on a couple of kgs, but as that’s likely to happen over the next year or so, I’d rather not put weight on now & more again later. Plus, I actually have quite a small frame (now all the weight is gone). I’m really happy with my weight & size as it is.

Catwoman7 is right. Many of us who do manage to lose 100% of our weight can look almost ‘too thin’ at first (you get told this a lot by well meaning family & friends - grrrr) but everything does settle again in time. Adding a few good multi/whole grain carbs to your diet in maintenance helps a lot. I think as you, & others, get used to your new body shape & size, you start to really see yourself as who you are now & the change doesn’t seem as extreme.

I am so glad to be a part of this group, thank you so much!

a lot of us who end up losing 100% of our excess weight look emaciated in year 2, but we don't by..or sometime during...year 3. Fat is redistributed a bit so you don't look as "drawn", and also, most people seem to have a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting bottom. So I wouldn't purposely try to gain weight now - just try to stabilize.

my weight loss just kind of stopped on its own at about 20 months out - but I started out heavier than you did.

Thank you so much, you are always encouraging!

  6. So, today I had my appointment and I am currently at 181.2 lbs, 34" waist, BMI 27 and feeling great!!!!!! I have one more appointment in December and I will be a year out! The question asked of me today, "You want to know how to stop losing the weight?" I thought oh, my goodness yes! I have had clothing altered, not once but twice, I have had my wedding ring resized twice and refuse to do it again! I am so grateful and happy about my weight loss but I am afraid I will not stop losing! I was encouraged to eat good fats, olive oil, avocados, nuts, more fruits, Protein, carbs and whole grains. Even the thought of drinking a Protein Shake makes me gag, I find them way to sweet and I have tried all flavors that I thought would be tolerable for me. (PremierProteinShakestobeexact) The funny thing, I have already been doing this and still losing weight. I hope it comes to an end soon! I don't want to start looking emaciated. Any suggestions? #stilllovingthenewme

  7. I too after having RNY found myself buying quite often so I took my favorite clothing to a seamstress and had them taken up, funny thing I took a few skirts to her and only two weeks later could not fit what she had taken up and she was kind enough not to charge me to alter them again! I am currently 9 mths out and refuse to buy any thing. I too work remotely and work in sweat pants or pj's most of the time! My other clothes I gave them away and they were donated to women being released from jail/prison to have decent clothing for interviews.

Has anyone been diagnosed with IBS and then had Gastric bypass surgery? Did the surgery make it worse it better? No change? Thanks!

Hello, I was diagnosed with IBS-C, I do not have any issues with the Constipation anymore, I also use to take Linzess but I do not take that any more! If you are not careful of what you eat, you will have dumping syndrome and I have also noticed that if I am not drinking my Water like I should it will slow down my bowels, but I really do not believe I have anymore issues with the IBS. Good luck and hope this helped!

Congratulations on reaching your goal! Whoo hoo!

I have no butt & empty boobs too. I’m always cold & have suffer bone pain (bony butt syndrome) but it’s so worth it.

It took me a while to work out what I needed to consume to stop the weight loss. I actually lost another 10kgs over 3or 4 months but have been pretty stable for about 4 months. I took it slowly, testing, what worked by adding Snacks, a small amount of multi/whole grains, a little more fruit & my portion sizes naturally became larger (more than a good cup but it depends on what I eat). I still avoid a lot of sugar & alcohol, no carbonated drinks except the very odd glass of tonic or soda Water & don’t eat rice, Pasta & bread. I weigh myself almost every day so I can keep on top of losses & gains & compare with my intake. I’m still learning.

Some days I feel like all I do is eat but if I skip a meal or snack I can easily lose again. (Due to medical appointments & going out I skipped a meal & snack on two consecutive days & lost 500g - about a pound.) It’s the fast metabolism but I know it will eventually slow & I’ll have to modify my diet again.

Talk to your nutritionalist or your surgical team. They should be able to make suggestions as to what to add to your diet. Also have a look at the food before & after photos thread. Almost all on it are in the successfully maintaining their weight stage & share recipes & pxts of what they’re eating.

Love it, thank you so much for the information will take a look at it! I appreciate all of the advise! LOLOL Yes, I am always cold too, I keep a sweater in every room or a blanket!

yes - it'll stop - and then many of us bounce back up 10-20 lbs a few months later. So you may just look like Olive Oyl for a few months. If it's really worrying you, you can always come up a bit on calories - but keep in mind that most of us do have that 10-20 lb rebound

LOLOL, Thank you so much! I will have to change from football to basketball then, I will gladly rebound! LOLOL Thank you so much for the insight!

  12. I have reached my goal weight and was wondering how and when will the weight stop coming off! I have lost my boobs, butt and walking hasn't helped with building it up! I love the new me but scared I am going to look like Olive Oil from Popeye before it's all over! My last visit, I discovered the passing out episode was d/t blood pressure dropping to low and all of my blood work came back FINE! I am currently now in a 12 and wearing size Med in my capris! Again, I am so happy with my New Me but will I every stop losing the weight!? I am up for any suggestions, for my athletic bariatric family! Thanks in advance!

Earlier this year, months before my most recent surgery, I was on a standard diet with good weight loss results. I was controlling high blood pressure with two different medications. When I got up from sitting to standing and walking, I fainted. I checked my blood pressure right after and it was 112 / 69. This is healthy for most people, but too low for my body which was used to high blood pressure for a long time. My Doctor combined the medicine to one pill and reduced the dosage in half. I've been able to maintain my blood pressure at the upper limit of healthy levels with one pill each morning. I've had blood work done several times this year. I have never had any blood sugar issues or diabetes concerns. As I lose more weight I hope to be able to reduce or eliminate my blood pressure medication.

Right there with you, I am hoping to get rid of my BP medication all together! I went today and replaced the mirror I had broken and she was so happy to see me doing well, she also told my I was just inches away of a 911 call! LOL Like you I have never had BP levels that low and when I went to the doctor's office the day before the incident it was around 122/70 somethingish and that is why he reduced it to half! I also have never had any blood sugar issues. I promise I will not forget again because I went through my 90 day supply which I probably had 60 of them and cut them in half with my pill cutter, everyone of them! Thank you for the response!

I know how scary that is. When I was a few months out, I passed out walking down my porch steps. When I came to, I went to get into my vehicle and I kept passing out. My husband heard me crying and screaming what is wrong with me. When he helped me stand up again, I passed out as he was helping me in the vehicle. When I went to the ER, I was severely dehydrated and when I would stand up my blood pressure would drop causing me to pass out. You must remember to always drink or carry Water or Gatorade or something. That's why doctors stress about getting your fluids in. The downfall from the ER visit was I left there in a boot, bc apparently when I fell down the porch stairs, I broke my foot in 3 places and tore all of my tendons in that foot as well. Now I try to keep Water with me at all times, especially during the summer. I hope you feel better soon.

Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you so much for the insight, and yes, I thought dehydration as well! But I have been getting my water in and some and monitor my pee color (sorry TMI) and it is not clear but very light yellow, but great information and so glad you are doing better as well!

How frightening for you (& your seamstress).

I’ve never fainted but have had cold sweats, nausea, general weakness & had to sit down because of my low BP. The last time was about 3months ago. Was just standing chatting at a shop I frequent when I suddenly became very weak. They got me some Water & I sat down for about 20mins in the shop before I felt strong enough to drive the 5mins home. I do have vision loss multiple times a day when I stand up & my BP drops. Not fun.

I used to take a bottle of diluted hydralite (full strength was too sweet) with me to sip wherever I went which I found helpful.

Interested to see what your GP says & if the BP meds were the cause.

She was so amazing and is! Thank you for your response! I truly believe it was my BP!

  16. So, I recently posted how good I feel with the current weight loss! The day after my post, I was at my seamstress, getting some of my favorite clothing taking up and we talked for an hour and all of a sudden I felt light headed and diaphoretic and told her I needed to sit down. My doctor had told me to take a half of my blood pressure medications and I had forgotten and taken the whole pill. I passed out and she gave me some orange juice after I came to and I told her I needed to call my husband because I couldn't drive home due to still feeling bad, my vision was blurry and I felt faint again but was able to contact my husband before passing out again, she spoke with him and told him I had passed out, she said I seizured and when I came to I had fallen into her glass mirror and had glass all over me but only had small cuts to my hand, my head hurt and was pounding and she truly felt I had a diabetic seizure, she said I fell forward out of the chair and hit the bottom of her full glass mirror, I do remember I kept yawning uncontrollable before passing out. With the Covid going on I refused to let my husband take me to the ER and contacted my primary which I had seen the day before. He thinks I over exerted myself by walking a mile and a half that morning and taking a whole blood pressure pill, my blood pressure was 118/72 and I didn't test my blood sugar d/t I have never had any issues prior with my BS. I drank G2 the rest of the day and the doctor told me not to walk and rest he rest of the weekend. Has anyone every experienced this? I am currently 5mths out and other than the scare I STILL FEEL GOOD! I received my blood work back Monday and all my levels are great! I have not walked any more but have been doing my 5lb weights. Any suggestions! I go to my Bariatric appointment the 23rd of this month.

Only my husband knows and my kids are clueless as to what a weightloss surgury was. LOL But after months of the listening to families talking about my weight. OMG your wife has gotten big, or your wife should go to the gym with you, I even had my neighbor approach my husband has your wife always been that weight before. I was already in the process of the weightloss surgery already and noone knew still dont and I cannot wait till my remainder 70 lbs come off so they can kiss my ash lol! But nope I do not even think of telling them, Then the insults come in. OMG she used weightloss surgery, she couldnt lose it on her own, wow that's not even authentic. But here I am now and even though Ive faced my struggles, Im here and I just go day by day with this life change until I accomplish my goal weight. Best of luck to everyone else with their journey!!💪

Amen, you are so right about that! The OMG she used weightloss surgery, I just love the look on people's face when they see the loss, my sister and brother in-law asked me was I sick or was I trying to lose weight, I told them no I am not sick and yes, I am trying to get healthy and your brother is walking with me! That's all they need to know!

I’m not planning on telling anyone aside from 4 family members that I’m having surgery. Did anyone else keep their surgery a secret? How did that work for you?

I’m asking because I work at a place that has extreme fat shaming practices and has terribly discriminatory practices as well. Unfortunately discrimination against overweight employees in my state isn’t illegal. I’m using some of my PTO time and having a hernia repair too.

Hello, and yes! I told my husband and children I did not want anyone to know and if they asked, I was on a Soup diet and wellllllll that's kinda true!LOLOL My primary physician half of my church members attend and I have told them I do not want it disclosed to anyone! Which it shouldn't be anyway due to HIPPA. The ladies of our church keep inquiring the kids which are 13, 10 and 19, we did not let the 10 year old know about the surgery but the other two I told them to say, "I see her eating soup all the time, and you will have to ask her!" They shouldn't be asking them any way! One member did ask me and I told her I had lap-band and she cut me off mid sentence and said, I didn't know you had lap-band and just her reaction to that I kepted my mouth shut, because it was if she was judging me for having a lap-band. I was not going to reveal the RNY surgery but was going to tell her I had adjustments to my lap-band. So, no it's none of anyone's business! As Forrest Gump would say, "That's all i'm gonna say about that!" LOLOLOL
