Search your ins. site for 'criteria for panniculectomy' (typically, this is the only procedure ins. will cover)
If you have a doctor that has been following you for problems due to excess skin. Take the list of criteria to them. Have that dr write the referral & necessity of the procedure. Make sure they touch on as many ins. criteria they can.
I went to pain management as I have many physical issues. He wrote a referral, touching on all the points ins. was looking for.
Took that to plastic surgeon, who took pics & wrote her own prior approval request. That was sent, as well as letter from pain management. I also wrote my own letter stating the co-morbidities that were resolved with weight loss, how crucial exercise is to maintenance & keeping those co-morbidities gone, and how the pannis was impacting my limited options for exercise.
I was SHOCKED, when I got a letter that not only was the panniculectomy approved, but also abdominoplasy!!

Keep in mind, insurance companies want to save as much money as possible. Convince them that, in the long run, it is more cost effective to do skin removal than pay for treatment for co-morbidities, infections, etc......

I had a revision from sleeve to bypass in March. I do not have any more heartburn—that’s completely resolved. I have had a much harder time eating this time around and still do not have solid stool. As a result, I lost 50 lbs since my revision which is more than I ever planned to be honest. I was successful with the sleeve—losing 110 and only gaining back 10 lbs over 5 years. But the heartburn was too much. The recovery has just been harder. But as a trade off I’m seeing numbers on the scale I never thought I’d see.

Hey everyone so I’m 4 days out from my revision and well it’s after midnight now so 5 days lol but i couldn’t hold anything down and had tremendous pain all over my abdomen and back came to the ER and I have a bowel obstruction.. So I’ve been admitted and having surgery sometime in the morning to correct it...

I’m doing okay surgeon what’s to see if it will work itself out by tomorrow.. if not having X-ray then surgery

Yes things have been going a lot better

5 years ago today was my VSG. What a journey. I'd do it again in a blink. I'm forever grateful. I had regain, had a health scare and got back on track. Lost my regain. Even though I have about 25 lbs to go until my plastics, I KNOW I would have never done this on my own. I am almost without the words of gratitude to my surgeon and team. Although my insurance changed and I can't see him anymore, I think about my experience all the time. It seems like yesterday. So much has happened since then, but WOW what an incredible time I've had.

I want to thank all of you for posting all this information.
I go in tomorrow morning 4/10/19. For a Sleeve to DS revision.
I am at 440 right now and my high prior to the sleeve was 535.
August of 2017 - I was down to 390 - then was in a bad car accident with a mild TBI and I have a disc bulge and loss of sensation in my thumb and pointer finger. I was so depressed I put the weight back on.
I've tried since February of 2018 to get the DS, but the one hospital didn't tell me they weren't considered a COE until five months into the process. I was lost and went back to the original hospital I got my sleeve from. I didn't have to, but I went through the 6-month weight loss. Kicked Coca-Cola. That's probably the best part.
I've lost 18 pounds on the 2-week liquid diet and was told by the PNP that I will be able to eat pretty close to normal after the surgery. I'm honestly craving barbacoa and cooked purple carrots lol. Actually, right about now, I'm thinking of eating my desk at work. I'm on a Clear Liquids only diet today. I look at today... like... well I've gone through physical, emotional, and mental hell the last two weeks. What's one more day?
For some reason, I keep having nightmares about dying. I know I wont, but I'm a person that operates on high anxiety. (Especially when I can't eat to comfort myself.) I am also a very strong willed person and know I have a huge road ahead for me. I need to get in the mid-200's, if not lower. My PNP said I should lose 180 pounds in a year. I like a challenge and so I want to lose 200. I'm not naïve and know this road will be very bumpy. I've tried to warn my wife about the gas, but I'm pretty sure she will experience hell soon.
I am encouraged to read about your recoveries when doing revisions. I was super worried about that. I have about 2 1/2 weeks off of work after today. So, I should hopefully have some idea what I will be experiencing when I eat certain foods.
I do like to workout and unlike some, I've seen increased weight loss when I do workout. I stay to more cardio and when I weight train I do it in a circuit and constant motion so my heartrate is staying in the cardio zone. It's a tip I learned from a professional weight trainer when I was in my 20's. It really cut me up then and I know now, approaching my 40's will hopefully continue to work.

I started crying at my desk this morning, thank god I have an office I can close. I'm an emotional guy. Thanks for all the inspiration and I look forward to posting updates.

YUM!!!!! 2 more days of liquid until I can move to puree............ My mouth is watering thinking of shredded chicken and green beans!!!!!!!!!!!

My surgery is this coming Tuesday morning I am not nervous yet I am sure that will come Monday nite

Thank you everyone. Its greatly appreciated!!! Dr just came in and said I get to go home today. They're getting my discharge stuff done. 1 day in the hospital and I cant wait to be at home in my own bed.

@brittanyatwalsh I’m doing fine just been sleep all day.. very sore on my left side where most of the magic happened.The nurse got me up early to use bedside commode and all I remember is waking up on the floor.. passed out & not sure why.. so I am not allowed to get out of bed until the next day to try & walk.. have kept down small amounts of liquid but still a lil dizzy when I sit up... Hoping to do better tomorrow. Thanks for checking on me... I don’t know how to reply back to a individual so I hope this worked ☺️
