I was in pain post op for nearly 2 weeks straight then it just stopped. I also did not respond traditionally to morphine (my meds were changed then rotated between tramadol/toridol and hydrocodone but still no measurable relief)
Its major surgery. For this one you may have a lower threshold of pain. I would contact my Surgeon/Team and advocate for other types of pain meds until you find one rhat works.
But watch carefully and if the pain get worse over time instead of better, you develop a fever, feel terrible in multiple ways, etc let them know immediately.

Thanks everyone. I'm finally feeling a bit better. Pain was an 8, I think it's down to a 4 with a new painkiller. Taking laps around the hospital & finally got Water & apple juice.

They switched me to hydrocodone (which has made me itch in the past). I decided itching might be the lesser of evils & my pain is down considerably.

Great! There is no reason why you should be left in so much pain, and it certainly won't aid you in healing.

Ask for Dilaudid - worked better than morphine for me.

I was in awful pain - and my surgeon refused to give me anything stronger than tylenol. My mum, bless her wee heart, was so upset that she Fedexed her own hydrocodone to me. Which you are not meant to do, obviously. But you never stop being a mum, I guess.
After about 5-7 days it was more manageable with over the counter pain meds. It is definitely major surgery - the incisions look like 6 stab wounds, and wouldn't you feel sore after that? Hang in there - and keep on at your team until they find medication that works for you! I hope you're feeling better soon!

I had surgery on Monday there was some pain but the nurse told me if I walk the hallway it will help with the pain so I walked soon as I was put in a room. It helped with the gas pain as well.

I had surgery on Wednesday and as soon as I was able to stand up I took off walking. You have to walk to move the gas pain around. I’m still very sore and needed help to stand, but I knew I had to push through the pain. Make sure you ask for pain meds to make you comfortable and try to walk as soon as you can. I hope you feel better soon, take care.

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. I had no pain after surgery, just nausea for the first 24 hours. I think it all gets better after the first day, so hang in there.

Same here. My first appointment was March 8th & my VSG is on May 23rd. Good luck tomorrow!

I cant believe how fast this whole process has happened for me. It seems like just yesterday I attended my WLS seminar. My seminar was actually 01-22-19 and here I am preparing for surgery 05-22-19 in the morning. Thank to everyone who’s responded to my post with encouragement and advice. So, I just but the bullet, (like 8 minutes ago!) and sent the deposit for my surgery. I’ll be heading off on the 16th for surgery on the 18th I’ve got a couple of trips away between now and then that my husband has been looking forward to for months and I didn’t want him to miss out otherwise I’d have booked for an earlier date, but hopefully those trips will make the time speed up a bit. Bring it on

I just wish Thursday will just hurry up and get here!

It’s a big deal. I normally get nervous before surgery. Always have. I’ll be better tomorrow once I’m at the hospital checked in

What is making you nervous? I'm feeling really zen about the decision in general. I'm feeling pretty zen about giving up foods. But the post-op? That's where all my anxiety is.

I've told a total of 4 people, one of which has had the surgery in the past. I confessed to that person my anxieties about letting anyone know just yet & oddly... I found their response to be less than helpful. I think I'll be happy to share my journey with people when I'm on my way to losing weight, but not today. And that's okay. I am feeling a little at lost though, not really knowing anyone going through the same thing at the moment.

My doctor seems super liberal with coffee. I'm told sugar free syrups are okay, plain half & half is okay. I've seen comments about the caffeine being dehydrating so I'm slowly cutting back to Decaf. We'll see.

I'm southwest suburbs & I might be interested as well. Could use a local support group of some kind!
