    Cancer treatments

Thank you! I hope you are Cancer free now. Thanks for the info. I hope I never have to make use of it:biggrin:
  2. Congrats! I hope to be around then too, but we'll see:)
  3. Thanks! This site has really helped with support too:)
  4. I just answered that on my pre-op application. The question was "what to you hope to be able to do after weight loss" My answer was be able to look in the mirror...I'm with you on the other ideas as well. I want to be able to shop in any store in the "normal" clothes section. I don't want to have to go to the "WHOA-Man" section...

    Helloooooooo anyone there

It was pretty good, as well as a trip to the scale can be:) I gave them my app and they said they would give me a call. I am going to call Monday and see what I can set up now. I told some of my family today and everyone was supportive!

    Telling the kids

I agree. I am going to tell them, but I don't have to go into crazy amounts of detail. I am talking about it with friends and family, so they are going to hear some of the discussion, which obviously I would keep to a minimum in front of them, but the key is going to be not to give them so much detail that I freak them out. You all have given me so much to think about.
  8. Thanks for the reinforcement:) I only put in work because it just happened recently, but make no mistake about it-they have no say in it:wink_smile: I'm in it for my health and to be around for my family. you are so right that it has to be my choice! Thanks for visiting:biggrin:

    Telling the kids

This forum is a Godsend! I have to tell them something. I have always been honest, but tried to tell them things in a way that makes sense to them. My oldest saw what I went through with the c-section with his brother. He is high anxiety and was fine with everything as long as I told him. If I came home and he felt left out of the loop, he would have a harder time with it than if I'm up front with him. THey have both seen me struggle with weight issues and different diets where I am eating something different than they are, so I will probably tell them that I am going to the doctor and he is going to give me something on my belly to help me be healthier. They will get that. Thanks for all the great advice. Lunabeane: I love your son and I don't even know him:)
  10. I'm dying...Nono places....what a riot!

    Helloooooooo anyone there

That would be great. I went and weighed in today and dropped off my application. I really think it is the right option for me. I'm psyched!

    I finally started step 1

Good for you!! I went last night with my sister and weighed in this morning. I know what you mean about the "this is for real" feeling. I had a that same feeling sitting in the office today. Good luck!

    Helloooooooo anyone there

Hi NaniRose! It was a little scary, but you could see Dr. Gens light up when he started talking about this being a gratifying surgery for the surgeons. It helps knowing and being able to see how excited he is for us. The post surgery diet is a little scary, but if it means not being so heavy anymore, it will all be worth it in the end. I'll let you know how I make out this afternoon. I filled out the paperwork last night so I could bring it with me. Wish me luck! For a change I don't have to worry about stepping on the scale:thumbup:
  14. I went to the info night tonight and I am convinced this is the right thing for me. I saw all of the people that talked about illness and are no longer eligible for the surgery and realized that now is the time. I'm excited and terrified at the same time. The only part the scares me is pureed food...It will be worth it in the end. I'm going to weigh in tomorrow...wish me luck!

    done!

    Congratulations;)

    Helloooooooo anyone there

I saw you there outside on the phone and then the seminar started. I got a lot of good info. Two months is the absolute shortest turnaround time. I'm going to weigh in tomorrow or Friday with my application in hand to get the ball rolling. I'll probably drive you crazy with questions between now and then.
  17. My doctor wasn't exactly excited that I am thinking about this. She said that most of her patients that go through this procedure gain their weight back. Is that really true or is she trying to discourage me? She said she will support me either way, but got the impression she is not in favor of it. She lost a lot of weight a few years ago and has kept it off. I am wondering if she thinks I am just lazy like so many people assume about overweight people...What are your thoughts/ experiences?:wink2:

    Helloooooooo anyone there

Awesome, thanks. I will have a red shirt and jeans on and I'll be with my sister. See you then:):biggrin2:
  19. Wow! That would be awesome! I am going to have to stay in NH for insurance purposes, hopefully it won't be the six months that I keep hearing about...

    Today was a great day!

Congrats! I'm going to info night tomorrow and I'm just about jumping out of my skin with questions for the Dr. about how they work through the process, so I can only imagine the excitement:) Good for you!

    gaining weight back

Great comments. I'm glad I found this forum. It's not as easy as diet and exercise. There are a whole lot of other influences that are even harder than the diet and exercise that people here understand. Thanks for the feedback and you can bet I will listen to all of the imput and focus on making a good decision for me and my health.

    Helloooooooo anyone there

Hi! I am in Milton NH. I am going for my informational night with my sister tomorrow. I can't wait, although I am a little nervous. Just looking to pick your brain with your experience and see if you have any pointers for me...

    Helloooooooo anyone there

Hey Wendy, I'm from Milton and I am going with my sister to Portsmouth for the informational night. They list Dr. Gens as one of the drs at the office. Have you been banded yet? Do you have any advise/feedback about the process? THanks!

    gaining weight back

That's exactly what I'm looking for. The sad thing is that I have had her as my Dr for over 10 years now, you would think she would want to support me with this, but it's not about her.
