My Gall Bladder hath failed me

I'm preop, but had mine removed already in anticipation. Mine was really bad, although I had only had 2 painful issues with it. For me, it was quick and easy. I had it removed on Thursday and back up and out on Friday. I experienced no real pain, only used Tylenol about 2 times. However, that's my experience.
  2. Earlier in this thread, I chose the idea of disclosing Gall Bladder surgery. However, in another thread, about informing friends & family, I made a different suggestion. As I don’t like telling lies to anyone. It’s a horrible habit & really unnecessary. When people ask about my weight loss, I’m just going to say that I’m following a strict weight loss program closely monitored by my physician. It’s not a lie & the surgical procedure is none of their business anyway.

    New and anxious

Yep. They won’t pay for wls or any program for weight loss. They will pay for a Nutritionist (as long as you don’t ever mention wls) and a slew of meds and other procedures due to obesity! Go figure.

    crabby

I've been working on my husband about my preop diet, really not sure how that will shake out. My #2 son has his 43rd birthday celebration on 9/29 and I leave for my surgery on 9/30. NOW...that will be my hurdle!

    Psych Eval not clear

Wow, Newbie! A psychologist is supposed to help you resolve control issues. Seems like she may have a few unresolved control issues herself! I think I would avoid her as well.

    Hello all!

I want to start going back to the gym after surgery as well. I see a lot of different responses to the timeline of when to start. I think I will talk to my doctor. I bet recommendation vary from doc to doc as well.

    down to the end

Sometimes it's nearly impossible to reroute your thoughts. But then, you know that. I wish there was a simple way to change your thoughts, but it sounds like you found the best one out there. Finding something to do. Good luck!
  8. I retired 3 yrs ago and since I didn't have to go to work anymore, I had become even more reclusive. We own a home, and I garden....only in my back yard. We have a fenced in back yard, so I wasn't visible. My front yard is all hedges and plants that only need to be maintained annually. I was only going out, only about 1 time a week, and then only if I had too. That crap has started to change already! I realize that I have to fix my thinking about weight and body image as well as my eating. Since I have a surgery date of 10/1, I have begun to get out like other folks do. Heck! I went to the bank yesterday instead of just using the mobile app! I need to get up, get out and get around as activity will be part of my success after I have surgery. You know what I realized? I love Walmart! I saw a lot of people there over the weekend just like me!!!! Who knew?!?

    surgery time

By now, your surgery has been completed and you are on your way to a speedy recovery. Congratulation on the beginning of your new and healthier lifestyle. Look forward to seeing more posts from you.

    Pre-op and obsessed?

Yep, I'm with you. My date is 10/1/19 and still obsessed. Can't wait for the hard work to begin. Oh, wait....it already has!

    New and anxious

I have Kaiser (WA) and am not covered for any WLS, so congratulations on being covered! I think the educational programs are a wonderful idea. I think that the knowledge is a great idea. The 12 weeks will pass by quickly and before you know it you will be being rolled in for your procedure. I found out, before scheduling my wls (self pay), that even if I used Kaisers wls program and surgeons, due to my contract, they would still not cover any subsequent doctors visits for anything remotely relating to my wls. Yep, full pay all the way! They will however pay for me to see a Nutritionist as long as we don't mention wls in any appt. Silly right? I scheduled my wls surgery for 10/1/19 back at the end of March. I'm now 68 days away from my date. This time has flown by! so, if 6 months has been a short period of time, think of how fast 3 months will go by! Hang in there!
  12. Does your husband and son have a good relationship together? My 3 adult sons love their stepdaddy. In many ways, he has been a better father than their biodad. Of course, I would have never married him if my sons would not have approved, even though 2 of them were of age. If their relationship is good, discuss with your husband what you want to happen if anything should happen to you. Then speak with your son and see what he wants to see happen. Then all of you have a family meeting and discuss the issue. Make sure everyone's concerns are addressed, and an agreement is reached. This may relieve some of his abandonment issues. Of course you should address your desire to live a longer and healthier life with him, but I'm willing to bet that topic has been discussed already. I also agree that education on the topic is key and he may just not understand the procedure. Does your son know how much you will be leaning on him for his support after the surgery? This will be his chance to reverse roles and make "you" accountable for your behavior! That may be a tempting side effect as well. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more of you here!

    Protein

I will try the less than 140 degrees advice. Who knew! Thank you just tried the Isopure protein in 120 degree water. That did the trick. My am drink was too hot.
  14. Whoohoo back at ya and Congratulations!

    Protein

I have a question along the protein side as well. I am pre op and just starting to experiment with unflavored protein. I just bought some Isopure unflavored and it doesn't seem to want to mix in. I just get a lot of clumps. What am I doing wrong?

    Medication

Have you talked to your doctor about crushing the pill or opening the capsule? I certainly would. It can greatly change the effectiveness or the meds. Tell him your concerns and see what he wants you to do.

    Insurance help!!

Insurance companies are a breed unto themselves. And anything associated with Medicaid can be problematic. I don’t think anyone here can really answer for sure whether an insurance company will authorize or not. A lot will depend on your doctor. What have you and your doctor talked about? It sounds like he has put you on some type of path towards authorization. Is that correct? As you have probably noticed, some people on this site have had some tough times getting things approved, while others have had no problems whatsoever. When it comes to insurance companies, they can be a pain. Good luck.
  18. After reading your post, I dug through my closet and found my wedding dress. My husband and I escaped to Maui to get married in 1997. We have both been married before, and both wanted to do it up "right" this time. We told no one, except my 3 sons who love their step daddy to death. So, we fled to the islands for a weddimoon. I want to fit into my wedding dress and renew our vows in the Tropical Gardens on Maui, on May 2, 2022. Our 25th anniversary. I also found the one piece swim suit I wore when we were there as well. I would like to fit in it and go snorkeling and diving, just like in 1997. I'm glad I hung onto my beautiful dress now. So many times I have looked at it just hanging there and thinking "why do I keep that! I'll never get back into it." Now, I'm thrilled I did. Thank you.
  19. I'm in the same situation as you. My husband has been on board with me from the start, and has been very supportive as well. We have talked about this and agree as far as disclosure goes and to whom. I won't be telling my adult son's until afterwards, because mom & step daddy don't want them to worry. As for my Inlaws, well lets just say I mirror your statements regarding any disclosure and the after effects thereof . I live closer to mine and we do see each other frequently. My brush-off will be that I am on a doctors supervised diet plan, and am excreting more. As far as my siblings go, well let's just say they are even less supportive than my inlaws. So that's a big NOPE!

    New Convert of the Sleeved

Wow, Cowgirl. Sorry to hear that. However, I think all of us can take a lesson in healthcare from our parents. I know mine were a perfect example of what not to do healthcare wise. But, I'm with you. I'd rather never eat bacon or pizza or have soda if it means adding another 40 yrs to my life.
  21. I keep coming up with things I'm looking forward too. I just walked by a full length mirror and saw myself. I'm wearing shorts and a cute sleeveless top. The top doesn't matter as I just can't get used to what I look like now. I won't miss not seeing her looking back at me! And, it will be nice not to fear passing a full length mirror!
  22. Only my husband knows. My kids are all adults, so I feel no need to share at this time. I think weight loss and/or wls are a very personal topics/decisions. As for others noticing your weight loss after surgery, well I think it’s normal for others to wonder how and what you are doing to lose the weight. However, i think to much info to others, especially not immediate family members is unnecessary. And really, none of their business.
  23. I just thought of 2 more things I would like to be able to do after wls. 1. Fit back into my wedding dress (we got married on Maui). 2. And, wear my 1 piece swim suit that I wore during our trip to Maui. I’m sure I will think of even more.
  24. PEOPLE POUND, I have to remember that one! I'm sorry, I just had to thank you for that little giggle today.

    Knee replacement

I don’t run either. I once told my doctor that the only time he will ever see me run is if something is chasing me to eat me alive. That’s okay though. After I get my sleeve on 10/1, and you have recovered more, we can swap faux running videos. 😉
