  1. Katladee Glad to hear your surgery went well. Mine was a bit rougher. I had 3 surgeries, the gallbladder, repair of a hernia and the sleeve. I was in recovery for over 3 hours and got 10mg of Dilaudid. Have no memory of recovery. I had such terrible pain on my left side and left shoulder. The Dr. wanted me to leave the next day but there was no way that was possible. I had a urine catheter that was removed Wednesday morning and when they took me to the bathroom I couldn't get back off the toilet I was so weak. They called for Pt who came with a belt to go around my chest and the three of them pulled me up and I used the walker to get back to the bed. At one point in time the lower number of my BP dropped down to 38. The nurse told the Doctor there was no way I would be able to go home Wed. They kept giving me Dilaudid until almost Midnight on Wed. Finally early Thursday morning they gave me liquid Tylenol. I was able to go home Thursday afternoon. Since Thursday I have been very tired, and in pain. Every swallow causes pain and I know I haven't been able to get in all the clear liquid I should. I see the surgeon on Wed for a 1 week follow up so I hope by then to be able to get my liquids and Protein Shakes in. I took 4 to 6 weeks off so I am giving myself plenty of time to recover.
  2. My gallbladder, hernia repair and sleeve was done on Tuesday the 26th. I had 3 hours in recovery and remember done of it. I had terrible pain under my left breast and it didn't ease up until Thursday. Now it come back when I try to drink Protein Soup or shakes or for no reason at all. They had me up and in the bathroom on Wednesday. I could hardly move and couldn't get off the toilet. They had to get a PT with a lift belt and three of them managed to get me back to bed. The Dr wanted me to leave Wed and I and the nurses told him no way was I able to leave. At one point my BP bottom number dropped down to 38..I am so tired and have been having trouble sleeping today. I know I had 2 more surgeries then most and keep saying give it time you will be feeling better. I have not one regretted have the surgeries and look forward to the weigh loss due to come. I hope you are all feeling better and getting through this first week. .
  3. Thanks I came home Thursday. Am still not feeling well. I can stomach a popsicle but soup, and protein shakes are cuasing my stomach to do the flip flop and I get the dry heaves., I am very tired but today can't seem to sleep. I did have the three procedures and I am sure that is why I am feeling so out of it. I go to the surgeon on Wednesday for a follow up.
  4. Mine also said 4 to 6 weeks and that is what I told my boss I was taking. I only work 2 days per week and there are other teachers at our Rehabilitation Center who can teach keyboarding to my blind clients. I am the only teacher who teaches Braille but the one client I had, moved to the State run center. Everything worked out really well for me and my clients. I have nothing to rush back to and can take the time to recover. About a week before I am ready to come back my boss will contact any new clients for keyboarding and Braille and give them their starting day and time. Come 6 weeks I should be able to eat some foods and have enough strength to get through my 2 days a week. My surgery is in 3 1.2 hours. Wish me good luck. I need it as I am also having my gallbladder and possible umbilical hernia done at the same time as my sleeve surgery. That is why the Dr told me to be off 4 to 6 weeks.
  5. Is there a certain location that you saw that info. Are you referring to blogs and picture links other then on BP? I have had my blog and picture link in my signature line for a long time. I know Alex has seen it and he never said anything about it. Possibly because the blog and pictures are on this BP site and not another website. Hope Alex comes into the thread and lets us know. I would hate to be banned because I did something wrong in my signature line.
  6. Eight years ago I tired for the lap band and was denied. Today I am finally going into surgery weighing 183 pounds less. I am having my gallbladder and a possible umbilical hernia removed and having sleeve surgery so I can lose the remaining 160 pounds. My surgery time is 12:30. Not being able to drink anything is really causing my throat to hurt. But if I can be 155 again it is all worth it. I am so tired of being this weight and hoping and praying I will be able to walk again despite the injury to my back and hips. If I can't walk again at least after the weight loss I can get additional surgery so I can walk again and enjoy all the things I use to do before the injury. Please say some prayers that all goes well and there are no complications. This is so much more then sleeve surgery, it is the 2 other surgeries as well and the start of a new life at age 60.
  7. Good luck sleeve sister. Wow you got a early surgery time, mine isn't until 12:30 today. The not being able to drink anything is really difficult as my throat is so dry it is hurting me. Hope we both have an easy surgery. Mine will be longer as the gallbladder is coming out and the surgeon may also have to take the umbilical hernia out if he can't work around it, in addition to getting the sleeve. Let us know how you are doing. I will be in for 1 night I hope and back into my bed Wednesday night.

Dieting on my own before surgery started 497, second one 402, third one 352 decided to look into having sleeve - June 2015 placed on 6 months supervised diet
  9. Ihave Coventry Insurance in Florida. My paperwork was turned in on Nov 23rd and they approved me on Dec 15. My surgery is tomorrow.
  10. I am to report to the hospital at 11:30 am. I am the first one for surgery of my gallbladder, sleeve and possibly an umbilical hernia as well. I am all packed, have my before surgery photos taken and am thinking of doing a will. Not that I think I will die but you never know. This is my first surgery and I am a bit nervous of the unknown. However everything I have read on line for the past 8 years has shown me that this is the right thing for me to do. Over many many years I have lost 180 pounds on my own and the lost 160 do not want to leave my body. After tomorrow I will be seeing the numbers go down again and I am thrilled to finally be able to have this much needed surgery that was denied me in 2008 when I first joined the site. Please say pray and give good thoughts to all involved that there are no complications and I am back home Wednesday.
  11. I just got the call Tomorrow Tuesday Jan 26th at 11:30 I am to go to the hospital. Have been on 2 days of clear liquids. Had pictures taken today. This has been a long journey as I had been trying for many years to lose weight on my own and when I first saw the surgeon I had all ready lost 145 pounds. He put me on a 6 month supervised diet as was requested by my insurance. So from June until today I lost another 36 pounds. Now the remaining 162 will come off with the tool of having the sleeve.
  12. I started one in 2008 when I tried to get the lapband. It never happened. But 7 years later I came back to BP and continued the blog. My surgery for the sleeve is Tuesday Jab 26th, My blog is here on BP http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/1683-welcome-to-my-journey-toward-being-able-to-walk-again/
  13. Me too Jan 26th. I haven't heard what time yet. They will call Monday between 3-5. I started my 2 day Clear Liquids today. Had chicken Soup, a Jello and SF popsicle stick. It is 8:30 and I am getting hungry and I am cold so I am thinking of having another soup.
  14. Do you mean like a blog? Or a chart of your weight loss?
  15. Thanks Kathy but I must say when I have lost the next 160 then you can call me the Ace of Hearts!
  16. What is your pre-op diet like that you have to follow and for how long? Mine is 1 day of clear but I plan to do Sunday and Monday.
  17. Aren't animals amazing that they can sense when we are hurt or sick or something isn't right. I don't have any dogs but a blind coworker has a guide dog. When she came back from training with the dog the first time the dog met me I was on my scooter as she wanted to get the dog use to seeing and being around the scooter as he lead her through our big rehab center. He only had seen me when I was on the scooter for about a year as her office was in another part of the building. A couple of months ago her office got changed over to my side of the building. When I am teaching a student in the small braille classroom I leave the scooter in the hallway as that is the last room in the hall. One day Ann and Eddie came back from lunch and her office is 2 doors before the classroom. There are 2 offices before Ann's. As they walked down the hallway Eddie stopped and started to bark. Ann had no idea why until someone else came out and said my scooter was in the hallway. She thought that was odd until they told her I was not on it. Eddie didn't see me on the scooter, he saw only the scooter so he thought I as in trouble and wouldn't stop barking until Ann brought Eddie into the classroom to see me and know that I was ok. What a tail wagging and licking kissing on my hand I got from him. Once he saw I was ok he settled down in Anne's office and I went back to teaching my student.
  18. Mimisan Tuesday was the 4 hour pre-admission workshop. I found out I have to take 30 days of injections to prevent blood clotting. Today I went to get the injections as I have to give them to myself. They are going to cost me $150.00. My copay was $195.00. Monday between 3 and 5 I will get my time for surgery on Tuesday. Sometime in the afternoon as on Tuesday he starts surgery at 12:30. I was asking to be the first one so we shall see if I get that time slot. I have only one day of pre-op Clear liquids . However I am doing 2 days Sunday and Monday as Saturday is my wine and cheese fondue birthday party. I probably will not be on line again until Thursday or Friday. I hope I will be feeling a little better then and able to write all about it in my blog. Monday morning I am having pictures taken and will take measurements as well. A close friend who had the sleeve also will be doing the pictures. I took some of him after he lost about 200 pounds. He was once was 504 and now is heading toward 275. So I will put my before surgery pictures up. I already have picture of 497 403 and 453 weight loss before surgery. I all ready have lost 180 pounds still have 160 to go.
  19. Had my 4 hour pre-admission workshop today. Next Tuesday I will have had my gallbladder and sleeve surgery, the first time I will have had surgery. I am nervous about being put to sleep, the waking up and recovery process.
  20. Wow what an ordeal you went through. So glad to hear you are better and back home and losing weight at last. Take the time to heal correctly. Please don't rush back to your normal routine until your completely healed and have rested as you sure went through a lot.
  21. Sorry Folks I haven't been able to post since New Years Eve, no internet. What a crazy New Year. Went shopping New Year's Eve Day came home in the afternoon and had no AC. I know your saying AC in this weather but I do live in South Florida in a double wide mobile home. Checked a few things and started calling my AC people. I know the owner so when I couldn't reach the office I called him at home. He knows of my situation so he sent someone over within a few hours. By the time someone came it had reached 89 degrees in the house and we were packed as we had a feeling nothing would be done. We were right as the unit was completely frozen. We have a friend who is in a Nursing home so she offered us her home. She use to work for the owner of the AC place. She had no internet, so I was limited in my ability to get online. We finally moved back home Friday. Today I had my 4 hour pre-admission workshop which consisted of a weigh in since my last one in Nov. Bloodwork up, explaining the preop diet and all the prescriptions we have to get etc. I had to leave at 10 am and got back home at 4 pm. Next Tuesday this time I will have had my gallbladder removed and have started my new sleeved life.
  22. My surgery is next Tuesday and I also am sure I will not be sleeping Monday night. Keep strong and you will get through the pre-op. Good luck with your surgery,
  23. I meant to send me an email from this site.
  24. Hi Leile and soflgrl I was able to join when it was first started. She had a meet and greet event planned at a park and it happened to be on the day I had a community garage sale. I gather no one showed up as shortly after that planned event the meetup group was pulled. Each of the individual Doctors should have a support group available for you to go to each month. My surgery is Tuesday Jan 26th I am having a gallbladder removal and the sleeve. Today I had my pre-admission 4 hour workshop and am all set for the surgery. After surgery if there are others truly interested I could try to start one again. If you are, please send me an email. Offer some suggestions as to what you all might be interested in doing and see happen with the group.
  25. I had my Pre-Admission 4 hour workshop today. Next Tuesday this time I will have had my gallbladder and sleeve surgery. I am not sure why I was nervous but I could feel myself starting to shake as I arrived at the Doctors office and especially when we went to the hospital next door. There were three of us in the workshop. I am having my surgery on Tuesday as it is 2 procedures. The other 2 are only have the WLS. I still do not have a time but it will be Tuesday Jan 26th afternoon. The Nurse said she would try and schedule it for the first one in the afternoon as the Doctor starts surgery at 12:30. The people at the hospital were all very nice, explained everything to me and understood my special needs. I had to have blood drawn again as my last drawing was one month ago yesterday and they wanted an update. Paid my copay, got my prescriptions and my pre-op one day clear liquid diet. I didn't know until today I will have to give myself an injection each day for 30 days after the surgery. I have never had surgery before nor given myself shots, I am ok now but I hate to see how nervous I will be feeling o surgery day. I came home with a shopping bag full of paperwork I had to sign and others I need to read including a detailed followup schedule for the next 18 months. Its been 7 months in the making but it will finally be happening and I am so glad and happy and hope and pray with the additional weight loss I will be walking soon. I did start a blog in 2008 when I was denied and continued it when I started again this year. If anyone is interested in following my progress the url is in my signature.
