  1. Congratulations in this happening! Hopefully this will include the variety box Protein hot chocolate drinks I have been subscribing to for the last 1 1/2 years. Many times I run out before my order arrives so knowing I could get a box at Walmart until my order arrives would be nice.
  2. Took in an additional 3 inches on 4 of my pants. This is the 3rd time I have taken in these pants. I still haven't bought anything new except for my Christmas shirt which was a 3x down from a 10X. Have no idea what size pants I am in now. However seeing these smaller sizes really feels great!

    Ounces ?

I have a kitchen scale and weigh my meats, about 3 to 4 ounces, and 1 to 3 tablespoons of vegetables is usually my dinner.
  4. Since Jan 2016 I have seen him every 3 months. It was one of his requirements for 18 months.

    Loss to date = 145kg (319lbs)

WOW! What a wonderful transformation!! If it wasn't for the fact that you are wearing the same glasses I could have sworn I was looking at a totally different person in the after pictures. I know you have come to realize you were not as happy as you thought you were in the before pictures. However I have no doubt of your happiness in the after pictures. I know what it takes to lose such a huge amount of weight and know you have a much better life from this loss. You look wonderful and know you will get to your goal if you haven't already gotten there. I am almost 11 months post op and my weight loss has slowed down. I will not settle for where I am now as I still have 40 pounds to go. However it is getting harder and I have begun to struggle.Did you encounter any stalls along the way and if so what did you do to get through those times? Any suggestions on what you did it get through the difficult times would be appreciated.
  6. Hi folks I know I haven't written anything since June. That is mainly because I am finally living a life I should have been living all along. It has been a little bit past 10 months since I had my 3 procedure surgeries for hernia repair, gallbladder removal and the sleeve. In those ten months I have lost 95 pounds for a total weight loss of 277 from my highest weight. I am still 40 pounds from my goal. I still can't stand for more than 5 minutes without pain. I must still use a cane to walk for a short 5 minutes until the pain starts. The back surgeon doesn't want to do any operations on my 4 bulging discs and spinal stenosis until I have gotten to my goal and had skin removal surgery. Why I really do not know. However despite the limited time I can stand and walk I am able to do so much more than I ever could before losing 277 pounds. In March of this year I became the social director of our community and (with the help of many wonderful volunteers) have been able to plan and implement many wonderful Summer, Fall and Seasonal activities for our community. I have also been able to finally assist my room mate with bringing in the packages from our shopping trips. This year I was able to assemble the Christmas tree string the lights and put the ornaments on by myself while my room mate decorated the outside. What a wonderful feeling that was! In years past all I could do was tell him which branches to put the ornaments on. I have started attending Bingo on Tuesdays, Friday Morning social and Trivia nights. I have lived in this community for 26 years and this year I have met some of the wonderful people who live here. I have also taken on some new and different teaching responsibilities at my work with longer hours. I am not at my goal yet, but I know I will get there. The weight loss has started to slow down but I am going to increase my exercise and do more than riding my bike and swimming. In 2017 I will probably join a gym and hopefully be able to do some sit down exercises of the circuit. I meet with my back surgeon again on Monday Dec 5th to review the x-rays and nerve conduction tests they were finally able to take. There is some talk about me getting an epidural in my back and seeing if that will reduce or eliminate the pain. If it wasn't for this horrible back pain I know I could do so much more than I am all ready. However I am thrilled to be doing what I am and to have finally had a life outside of the house. Until I write again Have a wonderful Holiday Season, Stay healthy and happy! I know I will!
  7. Went in Tuesday Jan 26th 1 pm was home by Thursday Jan 28th noon time. I They kept me a bit longer than normal as they were concerned about blood clots in my legs as I went in not being able to walk.

    Concerned

I was 315 when I had the sleeve on Jan 26th. Before the sleeve I was able to lose 182 pounds over many years. Since the surgery 10 months ago I have lost 95 pounds. My surgeon suggested the bypass and I told him I didn't want that surgery. He said he would do what I wanted but it was up to me to follow the food plan and do the exercise. The outcome would depend on me. We are both thrilled with my weight loss. I am 40 pounds from my goal. It may take me longer than 1 year to get to goal but I am so much healthier and happier now that I have lost a total of 277 pounds. Some good advise was given as far as researching the different surgeries and the one that you will be able to live with. Tell your Dr that surgery is what you want and if he doesn't agree find one who will.

    Over 300's

My highest weight was 497. On my own I lost to 315 before I had my surgeries in Jan 2016. I had a hernia repaired, gall bladder removed and the sleeve. 10 months later I have lost 95 pounds. I am down to 220 for a total loss of 277 from my highest weight. I have 40 pounds to my goal. This last month my weight loss has slowed down but I know I with more exercise and discipline I will get to my goal.
  10. I had my surgery Jan 26th 2016 so not quite 1 year. I am 40 pounds from the weight the Dr wanted me to get to before skin removal surgery. He felt after the skin removal I would be at the goal we set up. In the 10 months since surgery have lost 95 pounds for a total of 277 pounds from my highest weight.

    First Thanksgiving

10 months out and I had a small amount of Turkey, dressing, yams and green Beans. Was the social director of the event so was far to busy to have more than a bit or two of each of those items. Later in the night I did have a small piece of pie. This Thanksgiving was totally different than last year's.

    Vitamin Patches- Do they work?

I use the Multi Vitamin patch from the Bariatric Pal store. I have had great labs. I put one on in the morning and it is there until the next day. I have even taken a shower with one on and it stayed put. I have them on a monthly subscription along with my Protein hot chocolate. Am thinking of getting other Patches for some of the other Vitamins I need to take.

    I'm always cold.

Your not alone. I have lived in Florida since 1983. I was always hot and wanting the AC on and cooler than others. Since losing over 277 pounds I find I am cold when others weighing less than I am are comfortable. I wear a snuggle and even sometimes am under a blanket during the night while watching TV. My always feel cold to me but when I touch them they aren't. I never used a blanket in bed before, but this year I pulled a blanket off the shelf 2 days ago as I was freezing. I still have 40 pounds to get to goal and I can't imagine how I will be able to handle getting colder.
  14. Despite taking biotin and B-12 since June of 2015, it has finally happened to me! 10 months post op and I am seeing hair breakage around my temples and frontal scalp. Isn't this a bit late for hair breakage? I was expecting it around 3 to 6 months not 10 months post op. Veterans, how long did it take for you to go through this phase before hair started to grow back?

    1. ssflbelle

      ssflbelle

I am seeing short hairs but do not believe it is regrowth. I feel it is my hair breaking. If it is regrowth I never noticed that I was losing hair before. Hope you haven't lost too much hair and if so, it comes back quickly.

    2. Bufflehead

      Bufflehead

I don't think hair breaking is a typical side effect from surgery. The normal side effect is hair completely falling out from the root, not breaking, and not 10 months post op. My guess is that you have something going on that is probably unrelated to your surgery. If I were in your shoes, I would start with asking my hairdresser, PCP, and dermatologist. Good luck!

Heck. I TNOUGHT mine was slowing til I washed my hair today. Damn. Worse one yet. But. I can also see new stuff growing in. Odd phenomenon isn't it? I'm two days before my month mark...

Perhaps it is because I'm still losing weight rapidly, but I have zero interest in trying to slow it down.

    Pain under left rib cage

Are you eating any solid food yet? I had the same kind of pain at 3 weeks post op when I was allowed to add an egg to my liquid diet. The Dr said it was my signal that I was full. I am now 9 months post op and still get it every once in awhile.

    PatchMD Vitamin Patches

I use the Multivitamin Plus patch and just had my 9 month followup on Wed. The only thing that was low on my blood work up was my Essential Fatty Acids. I ran out in The middle of Aug. I didn't want to travel all the way up tot he surgeons office to get more of them so I wanted until this past Wed.
  18. Had my 9 month follow up and have lost 92 pounds. Total weight loss 274. Dr is finally looking into excess skin removal surgeons in my area. Have 43 more pounds to lose before he will refer me to the plastic surgeon. HURRAY!

Over 60 and having the sleeve

I was 60 when I had my 3 surgeries. Hernia repaired, gallbladder removed and the sleeve. My incontinence has improved greatly but there are times that I still have problems. It is caused by spinal stenosis and 4 bulging disc, one of which is resting on the bladder nerve. I have lost enough weight now that I will be seeing a surgeon on Monday who hopefully will be able to fix my back so I can walk and do the things I use to do before I was injured many years ago. Despite the injury I am able to ride my tricycle and have begun to do some walking with my canes or a walker. The thing that hurts me the most is all this loose skin. I am finding it very painful to sit in certain chairs as my skin is overlapping and causing pain. I am also experiencing pain in some of my veins as there is so much skin hanging it seems like it is stretching my veins. Is anyone else experiencing pain because of loose skin?
  20. If you want it, you work towards it. Don't listen to what the Dr said about not losing 100% of your EBW. I have lost 77% of my EBW and I will get to my goal of 155. About 25 pounds of my EBW will be skin removal. So when I get to about 180 I will look into getting the surgery which should take me to my goal. Don't forget depending on your weight you to may have loose skin that needs to be removed and that weight counts toward your goal.

Sharp pain in breast post op

Where in your breast is this pain happening? I also had and still have pain in my breasts from under the arm pit down the outer sides of the breast to the nipple area. I was told it is my veins in my breast reacting to the pulling of my loose skin. I was given gabapentin. However I have lost 266 so to me this made sense. But you say you are only 5 days post op. So I am not really sure this is what you are experiencing. However I do know any kind of pain in the breast is very painful. Hope others may be can provide you with more info. I would also check in with your Dr. and hope you get relief soon.

    Who's over 50 crowd

Was 60 when I had the sleeve, gallbladder removal and hernia repair on Jan 26th 2016. Best thing I ever did, wish it was available over 30 years ago.

    Vitamin Patches

I just got my Vitamin Patches and put the first one on yesterday afternoon. It didn't come with any directions other than where to place it but it was easier for me to place it on my tummy. I got them from the BP store. I haven't removed it yet so I don't know how sticky it is. I also haven't taken a shower with it on yet either. I got them as they were much less expensive than getting my Dr's horse size Vitamins.
