    I CANNOT Pee!

Wow! That explains a lot. I too have the pain under the ribs as well. When they both started flaring up at the same time, I was like, "Oh shite this hurts." Thanks so much for the information.

    Anyone else scared?

I literally just got home from my surgery and I can say that if you aren't the least bit afraid then you have been thinking about it wrong all along. It's healthy to be scared of something this life-changing. Any surgery should be somewhat scary. BUT that said, there are lots of people out there that have shared their stories and give recommendations. Go wild with those. Sit and binge watch "600lb life" and see which people do things a lot like you do (but they are wayyyy more exaggerated). Listen to them, learn from their mistakes. There is also a really good British tv show called "Supersize vs superskinny". Binge watch that one as well. Feed your mind and search for the answers to all your scary questions.

    I CANNOT Pee!

I (and the nurses) finally gave up at 3pm today and put in a catheter for me to have at home for about 10 days. I have yet to pee on my own since the surgery at all. When I was sitting on the toilet trying to pee, it felt like I was looking for (excuse me here) my first orgasm. Trying to relax while at the same time, use the muscle to find a way to pee. It did not work. The odd thing about the catheter now is that I feel like I have to pee each and every second. BUT if i take it out and cant pee, then that is VERY dangerous. I've been able to walk around, but it has only helped the gas pains. The gas pains in the shoulders and right side, I was NOT expecting at all. I thought it was going to be more around the abdomen.

The only big (and very unexpected) problem has been a pain in right shoulder and side. Apparently it is a common side effect of lapriscopic surgery. Also, I still cant pee on my own. Kind of embarrasing when they had to use a catheter.

In hospital 8 hous after surgery. Having no problems with water, slight stomach ache, but having problems walking (getting really dissy) and can't pee yet. Besides that my dreams and thoughts are really kafkaesque. Something tells me that Im kinda (overly?)sensitive to propofol.

    May 2019 Surgeries 🎉

Mine's tomorrow the 27th....still scared, calm but scared. Never experienced that emotion before.
  7. I like to walk with my dogs for about an hour a day. How will that work post-op with water? Do I have to bring a bottle with me a drink the entire time? Or can I wait until I get home?
  8. Thank you guys so much. You're the best!

    Anyone else into Slow Jogging?

How is slow jogging for the knees? I happened upon the video in my Youtube recommendations. Looks interesting...Will it help you to transition to normal running/jogging?

I need to start working out!

I have a tip...Get a dog! (Try getting one or two from a shelter.) They are wonderful motivators for getting outside and walking even on days that you don't want to go outside. I try to spend an hour every morning out walking with my dogs and my best friend's pups. We're lucky since we live near lots of woods that have wonderful trails. Nothing beats seeing happy dogs run around like wild puppies! I'm getting my surgery on Monday next week and am really going to miss doing my daily walk with my pack for a while. I hope to get back up to speed quickly. My best friend also wants to start weight liftning...and I think that's the only way I could ever start that. Doing exercise with someone else can be a wonderful way of getting started and getting hooked. Besides the above...I love water aerobics and swimming. With the summer around the corner, it's the perfect time to start. AND it is easy on the joints and gives you an idea of what you will feel like when you lose the weight which is SO motivating. Just my two cents. But I feel you on the exercise thing. Motivation is key...but starting is essential!

    sports tracker app

I have been using this app for forever and absolutely love it! I use it almost everyday.
  12. I am just 10 days out from having my surgery and I still have so many practical questions for all you bypassers. I am a teacher and was thinking about the whole "hydration machine" mindset that you have to have. In other words, drinking water in small sips all during the day. Can I get away with drinking only in between classes or do I need to make sure that I drink during classes as well? What do you all think?

Mine is coming up on the 27th. I'm right in the middle of the shakes only 2-week pre-op diet. Unfortunately, two friends of mine are having their 50th birthday party tonight right around the corner from my house and I cant/wont go. The temptation of the food there will be way too much. They are probably serving wonderful, wonderful Lebanese food and just the thought of it is making my mouth water. There is no way I can be there and not eat anything. I am so looking forward to getting back to a new normal.

    Drinking water as a teacher

I don't know yet if I will be allowed to have a water bottle or not yet. Im changing jobs to work at a middle school in August and don't know how strict they are with students about that. Since I have a 6 month probation period, I don't exactly want to rock the boat.

    May 2019 Surgeries 🎉

GAWD! I am into the second week of the shake only diet and it is KILLING ME! (Surgery on the 27th.) It's not that Im not satisfied with the shakes or anything, but I want variety. (Although I admit I've snuck in a banana or two, but have journaled it and made sure Im under 800 calories.) I did a soft diet of starting May 1st of under 1000 calories with 2 shakes and then a small meal of chicken and veg. I think that I could have done for a long time without any big problems, but as soon as it was ONLY shakes, I've gone bonkers! Even head hunger has started to rear it's ugly head. I wonder if it's the lack of choice that is killing me or something else...
  16. And a bit poorer along the way....but MUCH happier!

    Drinking water as a teacher

Yeah, I was hoping to figure it out over the summer too, but nothing beats hearing about the experience of others. I've been on a sabbatical studying foreign languages so it's a good time for me to have the surgery...but Im worried about getting back to "real life".
  18. I am going to be getting a RNY at the end of the month and have a question for you all. I love walking my dogs, but since I have 4 I use a fanny pack to hook my dogs up to. Will there be a problem with using that maybe a week or so after surgery? I haven't been able to ask my surgeon yet. I'll probably only have the day of the surgery to ask him and I doubt I will remember with all the other things on my mind.

    Dog Walking Belt

Yeah, my lab is about 100 lbs...He really is a gentle giant though. So my husband gets to take him out for a bit. My other dogs however are anywhere between 13 and 20 lbs. Much easier to walk.

    Pre Op Diet

Nope..just meal replacement shakes,,,ugh Thank gawd it's only for two weeks. If it was just low calorie I would be golden, but shakes are just too boring.

  23. Oh, I just thought of a new one. Being able to wear high heels without killing my feet because I'm too heavy and think I look horrible.
