  1. When did you experience dumping for the first time? Cause I’m over a month post op (bypass) and haven’t had it yet..

    I need advice

I’m over three months post op and I have absolutely loved my bypass until a few weeks ago when it was time to go back to school. My stomach is making very loud noises during lectures and having 150 students look at me because it’s distracting them is beyond embarrassing for me. I’ve tried everything I can think of. Different foods, eating before lectures, even during. I tried not eating an hour before thinking maybe the noise was my stomach digesting. But no matter what I try I can’t seem to do anything about it and if this doesn’t change I don’t think I can handle being in class. It would suck to switch to online classes. Hoping any of you have tips on what might help!
  3. Next week I’ll be 3 months post op, so I thought I’d make another update. I’m 70lbs down and loving the process. Photos are 1 day post op VS now 🤗

    Dumping

Yeah I know what it is. Just curious of other people’s experiences with it shortly after surgery
  6. So far I’m loving not being constantly hungry, I enjoy food more when I’m not inhaling it and I find healthier things more tasty than before. I haven’t had any complications or severe side effects and I barely feel like anything has been done (except when I’m eating of course). The not so great part at this point is not being able to drink water like I used to. I loooove chugging a huge glass of ice cold water and now I feel like I’m always thirsty even though I carry a bottle with me and sip constantly. Plus, I still can’t sleep on my stomach and it bugs me, but at least that’s temporary so it’s all good. All in all, everything is going well and in my case it’s definitely worth it even though it has only been four weeks.
  7. About time I do an update on here! Tomorrow I’ll be three weeks post op and so far I’ll say some things are exactly how I thought they’d be and others not at all. Food wise I’m not hungry but I don’t feel full after eating either. Like there’s zero sensation either way, and I don’t mind it but it means I’m still 100% dependent on the exact measurements of portions from my dietician to not eat too much or too little. I’m very careful about what I eat and I’m hesitant to try new things so I’m basically living off Protein Shakes and yoghurt. I’m sure it will get better, just need to be more comfortable with my new stomach first( I can’t wait to eat meat again omggg!) Physically I’m feeling good but I’m bummed I still can’t sleep on my stomach! It’s the only physical limitation I have now, except being tired more easily of course! So far I’m down 49lbs in total, 23lbs pre op and 26lbs post op.
  8. How odd. Mine had the exact same plan for both pre and post op for vsg and gbp patients
  9. Considering a lot of programs (including my own) allow cottage cheese at 1 week post op, I don’t see why it’s a big deal. Some people here need to take a chill pill. Even though the surgery is performed by different surgeons, it’s still the same surgery. Something that is recommended in some programs, isn’t going to be dangerous for others who have different rules. Of course I, like others here, recommend following instructions given. However, if you’re going to do things a little bit differently, you’ll be fine as long as you use common sense

    Idk about my surgeon

No, I got 1 week liquid and 3 week pureed. So about a month post op I can start incorporating normal foods little by little.
  11. -For my bf to hug me and his hands meet. -to sit comfortably in an airplane seat and put on the seatbelt. -to go a full work day without pain in my legs and fit my uniform. -to fit into the seats at university and walk to lectures without getting sweaty. -to sit on a chair with my hands resting in my lap. -go hiking and keep up with everyone

    Day 2 post op

Time to make an update on here. I’m out of the hospital and recovering at home now. I feel like I could write a novel on the past few days but to make it as short as possible: While waiting to be taken to the operating room on Monday I was told they couldn’t preform the surgery due to other more urgent patients. So I slept at a hotel and came back the next morning, and after a long wait I finally had surgery in the late afternoon on Tuesday. My hospital experience has not been great unfortunately. The only person who seemed to care was my very kind surgeon, everyone else had an attitude like “you chose this, deal with it”. Didn’t get a lot of painkillers, and I wasn’t allowed to have visitors. That being said; the pain was temporary and I’m doing well now. I was medically taken care of even though I felt emotionally neglected. I’m so happy this part is over and feel very motivated for the post op process!:) thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement

    Surgery Tomorrow 🎉 (5/13/19)

I’m also having surgery tomorrow. Nervous af, but we will be fine! At this point it’s basically a routine surgery at the hospital :) hope we both get some sleep tonight though
  14. I’ve had a cold for a few days now and I can feel this isn’t going away by Monday, which is my surgery date. So freaking typical considering I haven’t been sick in years 😭 Do you guys think it will affect things? So worried about my coughing cause that’s definitely gonna hurt right after having surgery..
  15. VeeAurora

    Sick during surgery

They said it was fine! It’s definitely going to hurt more than necessary but just like you said rescheduling would be hell. There’s no way I’m waiting longer. So fingers crossed the cough is better by Monday

    Sick during surgery

Thanks guys:) yeah it’s definitely stressing me out. I have my last pre op appointment with them tomorrow morning so I’ll ask then. Hopefully I’ll be better and they won’t see it as a problem. Seriously don’t know what I’d do if they postponed it cause they’ve already hired a temp to fill in for me at work, my bf is taking time off, and I’ve put my exams on hold, fingers crossed y’all 😂🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

VSG is coming up real soon!

We’re having surgery the same day! Stay strong, pre op is almost over

    AND THE VERDICT IS?????

    Yay! I’m May 13th. Let’s do thisss
  19. I’m getting close to my surgery date and I’m starting to prepare for post op and research the pureed stage. My doctor wants me on liquids for 9 days, then pureed for 3 weeks, then soft foods etc. Did any of you busy people out there have baby food during that time? I’m thinking what’s the point of cooking just to blend it together into mash when there are pre made stuff out there😂 if I like the taste, is it okay to eat?

    Considering Surgery

I’m happy with my looks and I have no health issues, so I had to think long and hard whether it’s worth it or not. I came to the conclusion that my quality of life with obesity is so low that the risks of surgery don’t seem that bad in comparison. So my bypass is 10 days away now. So basically, think of what your life is like. Is your current weight something you can live with? Or do you think you can lose it without surgery? If the answer is no then this could be the right path:) good luck 💕

    Baby food on pureed stage

I’ve tried it before and I love it actually 😂 just not sure if the nutrients and protein will be enough for a WLS patient. Hmm
  22. I see a lot of people say here that their nr1 advice for people getting WLS is to take advantage of the “honeymoon period”, whether that be 3, 6 or 12 months. I was wondering if anyone had tips on how to do that? Does “taking advantage”, basically mean be very careful about what you eat? Tracking and such?
  23. I know this might seem like nothing compared to the surgery, but I’ve been watching some WLS YouTube videos and is it true you have to give yourself shots at home post op? I had no idea until now(three weeks until surgery) and I don’t mind professionals poking me with needles but I don’t see how I will possibly have the guts to do this to myself.. Please tell me it’s not something everyone has to do?

    May 2019

You’re not being stupid, but if I were you I’d follow the exact diet given by your team. And certainly not for longer than they say, because it sucks (currently on my pre op). If you hate the taste, then there probably isn’t any harm in doing the protein shakes that you like, but make sure you have the same amount calorie wise. So yeah, if they told you to do liquid, do liquid. You can do it! :)

    Private Pay Vs. Insurance

Like others here have said, I think the six month wait is useful in many ways. I have to do a 6 week pre op diet, so the “wait” was basically just 4,5 months. I personally spent that time getting ahead with school and work, doing lots of research and saving up for the time off I’ll need post op. That being said, if I had that money to spend, at the time I probably would have payed out of pocket cause I’m impatient😂
