I had Gastric bypass 3 weeks ago and I am soooo happy that I chose this one .. but everyone is different so no matter what surgery you decide to get you can have different symptoms from anyone .. the good thing about this surgery is that if people have complications later down the road then that person can get a reversible meaning they can operate again and put everything back to how it was ..

Good luck on whatever you choose, you’ll do great !!!!!

I had my revision mid Jan. Not sure what the worst part about the bypass is.
So far I haven’t thrown up whereas with the band I could get stuck a couple of times a week even though I didn’t have a lot of fill and some of the foods were soft and shouldn’t have got stuck.
I haven’t really been hungry. Yes sometimes I start feeling as though I need food but this is generally close to when I should be eating anyway.
I haven’t had any real cravings. I can walk around a supermarket filled with chocolate and not feel the need to buy and eat it.
    I am not constipated!
Apart from the first week when I was on liquids and the body trying to readjust to food I haven’t had any dumping episodes. This could be because at this point I am trying extra hard to avoid sugar.

I am a revision from lapband (2009) to mini-gastric bypass (oct 2018) and I genuinely have absolutely no regrets. Wish I'd done it years ago. I don't feel any different in my body (I can't tell my internal plumbing has been rerouted) except now I'm too wussy to eat icecream or anything with a high sugar or fat content coz I have dumped a few times. However it's certainly not as bad as the sliming, PBing and pain on not chewing properly with the lapband.

I really really love my bypass, it means I can eat and lose weight like a regular person rather than a compulsive food addict.

I know what you mean, Liz -- I can get grossed out watching people eat. Sometimes, well, sometimes it's just not pretty. In the old days I didn't notice because I was too busy focusing on my own food, which is a good reminder for me that people are not really paying attention to what I'm eating/not eating/doing. I can do what I want! Today we were out to lunch and I ordered a tuna burger with no bun. I didn't realize were were getting a complimentary appetizer so by the time my entree came I had no appetite. Instead of taking a stab at it I just left it whole to bring home. Newsflash, I don't have to worry about offending the waitress, my dining companion or any one else. I can do what I want! And what I want is to stop when I'm satisfied. Yay!

I am grateful for a truly healthy life that has gone on for years.????
I'm thankful for this board of fun cyber friends that seem to know what to say when life seems hard.
I'm happy to be 60 with no weight issues( except between my ears)
And feel settled into the next chapter of my life. (Learning to live alone after a long marriage and widowhood has its challenges)
Onward I go. I'm looking forward to Hawaii soon. Dreamy place for me!

Some things I am thankful for:
that I can now walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I am going to die.
that my blood pressure is now under control.
that my friends and family are so supportive and understanding about this whole journey.
that my husband is as caring and loving as he is.
that I have a career that allows me to focus a good bit of my attention on my health and this continued weight loss.
that I no longer dread shopping for clothes.
that my skin is finally healthy and glowing, not dull and broken out.
that I no longer have aching joints or muscles after a night of work or a trip out.
that my life is no longer ruled by an obsession with food.
that my surgeon is as nice and involved as he is.
that I can finally truly enjoy food and not treat it like a drug.
And most of all, that I made the decision to have this surgery, because before then I was slowly dying. Now I am living, and living well. I am only about a third of the way to goal but, my god, a difference nearly 50 pounds makes.

That was me! i felt like it was not worth it when i was in hospital i was there for 5 nights as my breathing with the band was not normal for me! (someone who takes full deep breaths was struggling to take more than a short one) but it got better over the weeks!!

The stomach will have so much swelling but making sure you move (like with the walking, breathing, talking) will help quicker with recovery! and every day will get so much better!!

Hey Kat welcome to the losers bench!!! I am at 6 weeks now from my LapBand so i am only a few steps in front of you!

I am based in Australia (if that helps) and I am more than happy for you to reach out if you have any questions concerns or just want to vent as this is all a fresh learning experience for me! it took me 2 weeks to be able to lie on my left side (side of port) and maybe another week after that to lie on the front. It sort of just happened where i woke up and it wasn't causing any discomfort or pain!

What i can advise being so early on is
walk walk walk keep moving if you can drink little and often, i promise you it gets better BUT it is a shock to the body from having had unrestricted drinks to then the shakes still unrestricted to now feeling like a shot worth is too much! so have chocolate milk, juices, flavoured waters etc anything to keep hydrated! it is normal to have gas pains if you are one who feels it!! heat / massaging the area helped me I promise you it all gets better!! TAKE A LAXATIVE AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!! the quicker you get something out the better you will feel stomach wise! and once it starts regulating it will be smooth sailing from there Things that i found that were great for liquids was getting take away from vietnamese / chinese restaurants and keeping their stock for a few days! full of flavour and nutrients as always used with veg / meat broths!
don't get too caught up with the calories that you are having for the first few weeks with the liquids and puree stage as mentally you do need to have selection of things you can eat! but Portion Control will be the underlining issue for the life style change

Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else!!!
