  1. Hey everyone!!! How is everyone doing? I will be 4 weeks post OP tomorrow and so far I'm down a whopping 13 lbs since surgery. I'm still pretty tired and I've been moody but apparently that's normal since us ladies store estrogen in our fat and it starts getting released after surgery. I've been trying some new foods here and there too. Still hurts like a b!t*h when I sneeze though. My goodness it feels like I'm being ripped apart but other than that, I feel wonderful. I don't regret doing this one bit. I've noticed that I've dropped quite a few inches even if the pounds don't reflect it. Very happy with this second chance at life. Anyone else getting dizzy when you stand up though?
    Sneezing is the worst!

  2. Angelstew I am 2 weeks post op and also tired all the time. It’s frustrating but I managed to go to The Rolling Stones tonight and walk the stadium. I have my check up with my surgeon tomorrow and I’m going to ask him about it.
My surgeon mentioned that I would be tired the first month because it's so few calories. I really perked up once I got to add more foods.

  3. I had surgery 1 day after you pn 6/19 and I stepped on the scale for the first time today since surgery and I've only lost 8 lbs. It BROKE me. Like I'm so so upset so I understand completely.
Wanderlust and Bullet: I totally feel this. I had a number on mind for my first month. (Sleeved on June 7.) Came up short. :-( Definitely beating myself up a bit, wondering if I didn't do enough. Trying to focus on the new month ahead. Solidarity.

  4. What brand of Protein Shakes are you all using?
I’ve got ones called Premier Nutrition. They are pre-mixed and have 30g Protein and come in vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. I wouldn’t say they are ‘yummy’ or ‘tasty’, but IMO they are sooo much better than Optifast was (which I gagged down every day for 2 weeks).
I am alternating between the Premier ones and Isopure Low Carb Dutch chocolate powder. I have an Unjury sample pack on hand, but haven't really tried those yet.

  5. I don't know if any of you have ever come across this site but OMG, I am so ready for real foods, I can't wait to try some of these. My mouth is watering and I am starving after looking through these dishes/recipes....

Right? I had to stop looking at the pictures. Everything looks so good. How are you feeling?

  6. Not sure how long you are between purée and soft food or what your dr calls the difference but mine never did a purée phase. Today is the first day I haven’t had cottage cheese in a few weeks. tuna salad(basically with a tiny bit of relish and lite mayo) at lunch, eggs with cheese in the am, and I try to make fish or shredded meat for dinner that everyone can eat but some days I just send them for pizza and I have tuna again or leftovers. Canned green Beans and cauliflower and broccoli even if it is just a bite. I like veggies more than meat so I have to get them in after my Protein. I did bean Soup with ham. I have the stuff to do the ricotta bake but it just doesn’t appeal to me in the heat. And I only got the cues twice on liquids. Once very early with yogurt when I ate too quickly. The other with grits and I thought I was dying. I had to go lie down🤦‍♀️[emoji53] I’ve not made that error since.
Lucky. I have two weeks of purees until I can have soft foods. Looking forward to eggs.< br>

  7. Haha it's so weird though. Like with liquids I haven't gotten any "I'm-full-stop-eating-now-or-suffer-my-wrath" cues yet. Maybe because its liquids mainly. What kind of puree recipes are you doing? I need some idea. I've done refried Beans with taco seasoning and this fat free/carb free white cheese dip. I decided to give myself a few more days to heal before I move on to purees/soft foods.
Some of the things I've had are Oikos Triple Zero yogurt, hummus, ricotta bake, black beans with taco seasoning and cheese, beef barley Soup that's been run through the blender, mashed up tuna salad, and bananas. Haven't done much other cooking yet.

  8. Me too. I've been able to drink all my stuff so easily that it kind of scares me. I mean it really makes me wonder if they just opened me up and then closed me up Haha. Now I know what our other siblings meant.
Ha! Welcome to my world! Although now that I'm on purees, I'm finding it harder to get all my Water in. Plus I have to factor in the 30-minute wait times before and after. I finally hit all my numbers the other day and I was ready to have a ticker tape parade. Lol

  9. Hi Siblings! I’m three days post-op and I’m still struggling with gas pain (especially when I lay down to sleep). I walk a lot when I’m awake; I make sure to do things for myself like grabbing my Soups, meds, and other things independently. My incisions are VERY itchy and a bit painful. I’ve had to stay with meds around the clock. My shoulders, back, and neck are very sore; I’ve been using a heating pad on those. I’m able to get in a little over 8 oz of liquid in an hour... going to bump it up a bit today and tomorrow, just to make sure I can meet my liquid and Protein goals. No nausea or vomiting, no serious hunger urge, and no feelings of regret
Glad you are hanging in there. That first week really sucks. My surgical glue is finally starting to flake off -- I hear you on being itchy.

  11. I have two boys 31/2 years old and 19 months old baby how long will it take for me to recover to be able to take care of my babies with no help :-( I am having a hard time with my support system

Tough call. I was definitely up and about right away after surgery. But its kinda like recovering from a c-section -- you aren't supposed to lift more than 10 lbs. When I got home, I had to pace myself, but still helped around the house with cooking and dishes. I fold laundry, but don't carry the laundry basket. Is your 19 month old in a toddler bed? Can you change them on the floor? Do you have any childcare options so you can rest?

  12. Which personal measuring cups did you get and which plates ? Can you share? Which scar gel also my surgery will be this Friday's June 28th very nervous r overwhelmed

I didn't buy any special plates. I did get a set of bariatric silverware on Amazon to help curb my "big bite" tendencies. I also bought an extra set of collapsible measuring cups to keep in my desk for when I to go back to work. Good luck today!

  13. Thank you so much!

Surgery ran super long yesterday due to them fixing a hiatal hernia that was undetected before, and fixing keloid scars from my gallbladder procedure last year. Surgery ended up being around 6 hours.
I feel great! No nausea or vomiting, able to keep fluids down, and minimal pain... only around incisions area and gas pressure. I requested pain meds about every 8ish hours due to soreness and incision pain. I HORRIBLE overnight nurses who refused to let me walk until my husband became very stern with them about the risk of blood clots and the gas pain in my chest. At that point they let me go and we talked for about 10 minutes. Hoping to be discharged later on today to continue this journey at home. I’m so excited and happy to finally be at this point!
    Glad you're doing well, Sunshine!

  14. Hi!
I am 41 years old, have a fantastic, supportive hubby, and two beautiful teens (is that even possible?). I had RnY on June 18th, and surgery went well. I escaped the hospital the day after surgery, and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of pain. I stopped my pain meds the day after surgery, and then stopped Tylenol 4 days post op. The first few days were tough-- just so tired-- but each day gets better than the last.

I'm REALLY struggling to drink enough Water. I freakin. hate. Water. Cold water hurts, so I started drinking room temp (yuk), and today's 'trick' is to drink hot water with herbal tea in it to try to get it in.
Anyone have any tips to get the water down?

Can you do Crystal Light? You can also add a sprig of mint or a slice of cucumber and pretend you're at the spa! For me, herbal tea is better as iced tea -- maybe the cold won't bother you much later.

    I'm also a 41-year-old mom -- Congratulations on doing the thing! :-)

  15. Hey everyone. So I haven't been keeping up to date on everything that's been posted for the last 3 weeks or so... I was dealing with stress, nerves and a bit of depression related to my own surgery so had to take a step back.
That being said my love and support goes out to all you wonderful people [emoji173]️
What triggered my stress was actually receiving confirmation of my surgery date... got confirmation and realized looking at the calendar it was 3 weeks away! While I knew we were aiming for late June for it to suddenly be coming up was intense.
My surgery is Wed June 26th at 7:00 am!! Feeling much better about it and while still nervous looking forward to getting it done at this point.
Thanks everyone for being so encouraging with sharing your own journey's.
It IS stressful. I'm glad that you recognized what was happening and gave yourself some time. Hang in there.

  16. Back to work for me today. Mostly just sitting in my pickup but every couple hours have to go climb into my crane to make a lift. I'm really wishing I could have afforded to take another week or two. My abs feel like I just did a few hundred sit ups.
Dang. Hope you are trying to take it easy when you can. I hear you on the abs -- it's killer.
