Madlyn reacted to ValerieInMexico in Don’t want to leave my house.
I am so like this. One thing I am doing in my house, because I am on the presurgical diet and entertainment by food is not an option, is working on a list of fast tasks. Things I can do in 10 to 30 minutes. Otherwise, besides going to the pre-paid gym sessions, I would stay home with the curtains closed. That is my nature. Glued to the recliner.
    My list of tasks include:
. Load or Unload the dishwasher
. Do a load of laundry
    . vacuum
. sew that button on the shirt (the one that has been waiting 10 months
. steam the wrinkled clothes that have been waiting for weeks.
    . clean the fridge
I set the timer to 30 minutes and tackle a task or two. At the end of the day I feel better and it keeps my mind off food.
I am avoiding going out because I am also a recovering shop-acholic. That is one of my fat time things to do. Avoidance.
To mitigate the risk of shopping for things I do not need:
I have a list of errands to run that I postpone because it requires I wash my hair, put on something other than sweats and leave the house AND not shop or stop at starbucks! I just focus on the list, bring a big bottle of Water and try and drink it before I get home. Also: I am wearing my best clothes because they will be too big next month and I might as well! Also, been putting on makeup cause, why not. Anything to get my mind off food. I smile and say "thank you" to everyone. Ask the clerks "how is your day?" Then, they smile back at me and I feel I have achieved a small thing.
Finally, another thing I did was ease myself into the pre surgical diet by using noom, the app, which set a 1200 calorie goal for me, and 3K for steps. Why not do that? It helps to motivate you, noom helps you work on that lazy bones attitude too.
Good Luck. Getting outside feels good once you actually get yourself out the door!

I'm sorry you are struggling. It sounds like you are pretty in touch with where everything is coming from...so I only want to address this:
There are GREAT benefits to losing weight beyond the number on the scale. It WILL help physically (if not now, then definitely in the future--cuz realistically MO people do not die "perfectly healthy but MO". They die cuz of complications from MO in most cases) and it DOES help emotionally as well as spiritually. But the part I will address cuz I experienced it is the reduction (dramatic) in pain level from my weight of 287 and 325lbs compared to my pain level at 137lbs, right this minute.
At 287 and 325lbs I was basically bed ridden. I had so much pain I could not stand for 10 minutes, could not walk for 5 minutes, had to change positions every 30 minutes to an hour. Couldn't sleep longer than an hour or two cuz of waking from pain. Couldn't clean myself (poopin) or shower without sitting down on a shower chair. I couldn't exercise or travel. I was a mass of degenerative disc and joint disease and so much more I won't bore you with. I got cortisone injections into my back and hips every 6-9 months and lived on daily pain meds (opiods) and drank to control the extra pain. I was a terrible hot mess. Every morning I woke in a 5-7 pain level and by evening every day I was at minimum an 8 1/2-10. I cried from the pain most days.
Today at 137lbs I ran this morning for 35minutes strait without stopping at 3.5mph pace (slow but moving). It's a personal best. I wake in a 2-4 pain level and it stays pretty consistent. Some days it goes up to a 5, but that isn't every day. I sleep 3-6 hours at a stretch. I exercise every day (either walking, jogging, or core strengthening exercises). I am active, care for myself, the house, cook, and sleep. I don't sit down to shower. My balance is improving...I feel like I'm getting my life back.
I don't drink for pain (and rarely drink now). I don't take any pain meds at all. Oh and I no longer cry daily from pain.
I have such a great RD. She is part of my care team. I also have several psychs who are helping me. I just wish anyone who needed help could get the kind of help I've had cuz it's been phenomenal and a blessing.

You knew all of the ups and downs before going in to surgery. Yes, it's tough. Yes there are risks. But, you are given all of this information going into it.
Actually, for some of us it's the only way we can lose weight. Even though I spent 3 months in hospital with a leak in my sleeve and now after RNY a possible stricture or ulcer, I am glad I did it. But, I did my research and I weighed up the risks and for me at 368 pounds... I knew I wasn't going to live much longer and my daughter needs me so much more than I need food.

I'm so excited, I'm doing the happy dance! I just got a message from my pulmonologist's office letting me know the results of my in-home sleep study last week. I've had Obstructive Sleep Apnea for 3 years and using a CPAP. I had gastric sleeve surgery 12/11/18 and have lost 35 pounds since surgery/50 pounds overall and so I felt like maybe I no longer needed the CPAP. She said the results are that I NO LONGER NEED A CPAP! I don't have to sleep with that thing strapped to my face anymore! The weight loss did it!
Now this one deserves a happy dance too, but I didn't get an exciting phone call about it . . . I also no longer have GERD since my sleeve surgery 3.5 months ago! I've had GERD for 10+ years and had it pretty bad in the first couple of weeks after surgery, but now it's gone away completely. Woo-Hoo! Woot-Woot! 🙂
