  1. i did tell immediate family and then the ENTIRE family found out just a couple of weeks ago when they saw me at a family reunion and asked what my weight loss secret was...i told them. i did tell some people at work, when they asked, “so how was your vacation?” I then would reply, “uh, I didn’t go on vacation, I had surgery…” of course they asked, but I told them. there are some people I didn’t tell, but if they find out through office gossip, I don’t care. There is this one person who I kind of wish I didn’t tell, every SINGLE time she calls the officeshe asks me are down? How much have you lost so far? THAT GETS REALLY OLD!

I just started my journey . The only people I told are my Dad my husband and my daughter. I'm telling my mom until after I have everything in finalized. I'm not telling anyone else .

  2. Brubear, how are you and your husband doing? Are you feeling better? Did you take much time off from work? I can only be off a week so I am hoping that will be enough.

How is the eating going? Do you feel like things are different? Do you think you will stay on South Beach even after the surgery? Gosh there are so many questions.

I have a permanent back injury it pervents me doing alot of things. I can't bend or stand on my own every long just recently my back has gotten worse. So I hope my PCP can explain that on the form.

  3. I have not been banded as of yet. My first appointment for a consultation with my Dr. is coming up soon though.

JoJoBanana is right about the back and the knees 100%. I have back problems and knee problems. Right now in my condition I cannot even walk far before I start hurting so bad in my back that I am in tears and cannot even stand up straight any longer. When this happens to me I have to either sit down where I am or fall down.

My knees specially my right one is at the point where it hurts so bad that I cannot even walk up the steps using my right foot first any more.

The way I am right now I am too afraid to even walk a little away from our home, for fear that I will not be able to make it back to the house.

Right now I am in the process of getting a Bariatric Rollator just so I can walk and then sit down right where I am if I need to.

Here at home I cannot even stand long enough to cook a meal! I can use the oven or microwave or deep fryer, but not the stove. I cannot change the garbage can trash because of my back problems that I have. If I bend over just for a few minutes and then go to stand back up, I am in a lot of pain and just about cannot even stand back up at all.

Most of the time, or I should really say all the time. I am either at the computer in the desk chair, in my recliner laying back or in the bed because I am in so much pain.

This is not what I call a life. This is what I call miserable. This is what I call having no life at all. I have to have other people do things for me all the time. And, I feel like I am not a good mom or wife anymore at all.

Personally I cannot wait to go through all the steps that I have to go through in order to get banded. If I do not, I will not live long enough to see our 15 yr old son finish growing up, or even get married one day.

I am not saying any of this to throw a guilt trip on anyone. I just wanted to let people know what my life is like right now (if you want to call it a life)

I know that after I get this band that things are going to be very different. But personally, that is what I NEED. I love my family and friends dearly, even if I do have low self esteem about myself, and I do not want my weight to end up being what kills me.

I know I do not know any of you, but I do want you to know that I love all of you and I thank you with all of my heart for being here and supporting one another !!!

BlueRose, I understand how you feel. I have sereve back problems too I can't walk very far or stand very long. I hope this surgery helps us both lessen our pain.

  4. Bugs, some insurances do not require a referral, so check first before you beat yourself up over it. My company did not require a referral, but I did not know that and I had a big to do with my primary care office because they would not do one (because I did not need it) but I was afraid to go to the 3 hour without it. Anyway, it worked out because I really did not need it. United Health Care and ChampVA are my companies.

I know that my insurance company requires a referral , the one I am concerned about is the one in the packet from the Dr. Hoffman's office .

I decided to send the referral letter form and the fitness evaluation form to my PCP .

  5. Bugs, my weight loss history was very vague on the application and I was accepted into the program. Don't worry.

Thank you linda I have one question I asked my doctor for a referral when I got my application packet sent to me there was a blank refferral letter inclosed . What should I do with it ? I still haven't gotten my refferal because of backlog. Im wondering if she sends me a standard refferal if that will work.

  6. Bugs, at the seminar they will discuss the impact of the band on back pain. But think about it, whatever hangs out in front pulls on your back. I have back pain today more than usual. I do exercise a lot and it helps. I go to a class called Jazzercise a few times a week. If you or anyone is interested let me know. You can always go to a first class for free. There are ladies of every size and age. Currently classes are held at Transit and Clinton as well as Ridge and Abbott.

How long you have been on diets previously seems to differ by insurance. Even if you have to go on a diet for your insurance, the whole process takes 4-5 months anyway so you have time to try again.

    Have a good day.

Judy .Because the back injury is permament thats one of the reasons why I don't exercise. But ok then so maybe they will think I'm a candidate. thanks for listening and the advice.

  7. I nervous about this too. After I filled out the weight loss history portion of the application I worry the doctor will think I didn't try long enough on each diet plan which was about six to seven months . But I'm also worried that I will have problems after and will it really help my issues. My biggest problem I have right now is trying to figure out if it will make my back feel better enough I can excerise more often than I can right now.

Thank for letting me get this out. I would appreciate any advice .

  8. I do happen to have a blank copy here (fancy that!) If you want to send me a fax number or an address I will send it to you (and I will not even bill your insurance!, LOL)

If you send me that information though send it to my regular email, don't put it on the web site. ja1022@roadrunner.com

I will get it to you right away.

I will do that, Im sending you my address right now. Thanks Judy Anticola.
