    Struggling with head games

Thank you all so much for your replies!! I really appreciate your help You have given me some insights that I hadn’t thought about so thank you so very much! I love that this board is such a wealth of knowledge and no one has to feel like they are doing this alone
  2. So I think that I’m struggling with head games. I’m post VSG by a year and half. I feel like I’ve done phenomenal but when I saw my doc today she told me she didn’t want me to lose anymore weight. The entire time I haven’t had bread, pasta, and rice. At first it was because of the diet recommendations my team suggested. I know that now I can have them in moderation but I still haven’t chosen to do so. I have made the choice not to add to my diet because I currently don’t miss them but I feel like once I start I will crave them and eat too much of it. I’m not sure how to get around my all or nothing mind set. Any recommendations on how to be ok with moderation?? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    Struggling with head games

Thank you for your response! I definitely do think that I have an unhealthy mindset when it comes to starch. I really want to work on it because I think that might be the only way to stop my weight loss. I generally eat a good variety of protein, veggies and fruit. I am ok with potatoes and veggie carbs but for some reason I just put up a wall when it comes to the others I appreciate your suggestion of whole grain carbs. I will look into that for sure!

    Clothes?

I’ve done a little bit of both. I donated/consigned sizes 14-26. I Skipped through sizes during the weight loss and kept my sizes 4-8 since I have no idea where I will settle.

Eggs for dinner 😃 no after pic.
  8. My program said that once in maintenance mode complex carbs are ok. At 14 months out I still avoid bread, rice, and pasta but I don’t count carbs. At first I avoided it because they told me it would be difficult to digest because it makes a gummy ball in your stomach that could get stuck. That sounded unappetizing and painful so I didn’t touch it. Now I avoid it out of preference but I don’t think that will be forever.

    Post-Op Menstruation Issues

Yes, I had my surgery 11 months ago and I feel like I’ve been on my period for 10 months! 😞 AND I have an IUD and didn’t have periods prior to the surgery. My GYN said it would take time to level back out to normal.

    Missing you

I was told to avoid it because it expands like bread and pasta and forms a gummy ball in your stomach. Then that doesn’t leave room for the protein that will keep you satisfied for longer so you will eat again too soon.

One of the things I love about the surgery is the ability to stretch a meal! I wanted chipotle so I got a burrito bowl (no rice) and added a tortilla and cheese to make two meals for me and a quesadilla for my son! Before & Afters, my son didn’t have any left over but I did! 😃
  22. I had to take tiny bites and wait 30 seconds between bites so you may want to try that. I was cleared for all meats by 6 weeks but did have a few weeks between full liquids and meats with some soft foods so maybe try that next? I do also have issues if the meat is to dry. It didn’t agree with me either.

    The Maintenance Thread

I lurk on this thread because I will be in maintenance soon and I’m mostly a lurker anyway 😃 I’ve met my first goal but I’d like to meet another “healthy” BMI goal before I officially call maintenance. I do not log anything and I don’t track calories, carbs, or protein. I’m not overly active but I’m much more active than I was if that makes sense. I guess I’m selective with my compliance. I don’t log anything but I weigh everything (if I’m at home and have my scale or what I meal prep). I wait 30 min before and after eating before drinking and I haven’t introduced any starchy carbs back into my diet (veggie carbs are fair game). I make sure I have protein at every meal but I don’t log it in any kind of app or check my macros. I read nutrition labels on things to make sure it’s more than 5(preferably 15)g of protein and less than 15(preferably 5)g of sugar but these are just general guidelines I live by. My restriction is still there because even at 9 months out I can only generally eat between 5-6oz by weight per meal. I don’t know what the life long affects of my path will lead to but I feel like I’m doing ok for now and it seems like a plan I can live with. If when I get to when the honeymoon phase is over and it’s not working any longer than I will reassess and see if I need to start tracking everything but I’m loathe to do that. I don’t know if the above makes me an outlier similar to you but maybe so I thought I would share.
