Flinstones Vitamins..?
GradyCat replied to shellyk018's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I take GNC soft chews, and yes they're on the expensive side, but they work best for me because they don't make me sick to my stomach like a lot of vitamins do and they make me feel like I'm eating something. -
Slivered almonds?

I like my 20 oz Tervis Water Bottle. Very durable. Can sip out of it without using a straw.

I haven't had any bloodwork done post-op yet, but I do take Vit D every day

eating processed food and heart burn
GradyCat replied to Happy Joy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Has it happened again since then? Might just be a fluke. If it continues, you could call your doctor. I had a "foamies" feeling today after eating peanut butter, even though I've had it before without issues. -
Questions about wls

I think both are discouraged but the only real answer will be the one from your surgeon. -
Having Such a Hard Time "Treating" Myself
GradyCat replied to KT1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can certainly relate to this. I had a donut on national donut day earlier this week, was totally within my calorie goals, but I felt bad about it afterward. -
I've added you both so far on MFP. I'm @LAM40223

I'm six months post-op and haven't tried a salad yet because I don't think my stomach would like it.

Eating out or at others homes...
GradyCat replied to DanieHall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat out once or twice a week with my husband and I order something sensible like a grilled chicken breast or salmon and I give him the side dishes. When I eat out with friends, I choose places where I know I can order something healthy, like a breakfast place that offers eggs. It can be done. -
I was "lucky" in that respect because I've never liked food. I just really don't like most foods. I was existing on cookies and chocolate and sweets for all my meals. So the surgery really helped me learn how to stop eating those foods and focus on real food and learn how to eat food. It's a struggle and I only eat a few foods, but I do it. You'll have a plethora of foods to choose from post-op, so don't worry.

There are protein chips, protein cheese puffs, and protein cake bites.

My neighbors and people I'm on a Board of Directors with who see me once a month have commented on my weight loss and been very favorable, but my mother-in-law hasn't said a word, hasn't noticed, or refuses to give me the compliment of noticing I've lost 50 lbs. My friend is morbidly obese and was laid off from her job and is having trouble finding a new job and I think a lot of it has to do with her weight. The discrimination is real.

Welcome and good luck with your WLS on Monday. It sounds like you've done a great job following the program set out by your nutritionist. You're off to a great start.

Just when it's in shredded form. It's something about the texture. I can eat regular chicken just fine.

I haven't told anyone about my WLS and I'm six months post-op. If someone mention that I look like I've lost weight and asks about it, I just say, "Diet and exercise" (which is TRUE!). I don't like most food at all. I never have. My weight was mostly due to eating tons of cookies and chocolate. I like very few foods. So now I mostly drink protein shakes and eat deli ham and cheese most days.

Oh wow, CONGRATS! Way to go! 🏆

How long did you keep logging meals?
GradyCat replied to Jobber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been logging my intake in MyFitnessPal for years, even before the surgery, so for six months now post-op I have continued to do so and plan on keeping it up -

I Think I'm Allergic To Carbs
GradyCat replied to GradyCat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
OMG! I had no idea! Here I was pushing protein, protein, protein! I just checked my MyFitnessPal log and sure enough I've been getting 90+ for the last week. So I googled what you said about too much protein and found: Weight Gain Your body can only use a certain amount of protein each day. If you take in too much protein, you may gain weight. Each gram of protein has 4 calories. If you take in 100 grams of protein, but your body can only use 50 grams of it, your body will store the extra 200 calories' worth of protein as fat. Doing this daily can cause you to take in 1,400 extra calories per week, resulting in a weight gain of almost 2 pounds per month. How to calculate how much protein you need? Here’s an easy way to calculate approximately how much protein you need: Take your weight in pounds. Divide that number by 2.2. This is your weight in kilograms. Take that number a nd multiply it by: 0.8 if you’re a regular healthy active person, 1.0 if you’re an intense athlete. -
You can do as much walking as you have energy to do. Break it up into small 5 or 10 minute walks instead of one big long walk if you want to. Yes, it's different being on a two week liquid diet, but it's perfectly doable and you won't die from it. 🙂

I Think I'm Allergic To Carbs
GradyCat replied to GradyCat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh, I see. I googled it. Glycogen and Diet What you eat and how much you move around also influences glycogen production. The effects are especially felt if you're following a low-carb diet, where the primary source of glucose synthesis—carbohydrate—is suddenly restricted. When first starting a low-carb diet, your body's glycogen stores can be severely depleted and you may experience symptoms of fatigue and mental dullness. Once your body adjusts and starts renewing its glycogen stores, these symptoms should begin to subside. Additionally, any amount of weight loss can have the same effect on glycogen stores. Initially, you may experience a rapid drop in weight. After a period of time, your weight may plateau and possibly even increase. -
I still can't do bread or soft tortillas or shredded chicken and sometimes steak.

Just had surgery monday but feel normal
GradyCat replied to MaraJoyce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's only been four days. Don't you feel a little tired? Aren't you on a liquid diet? You should feel a little different. -
