Endoscopy Day! Now it’s getting real!
GradyCat replied to KimB7811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, no ulcers thankfully. -
A Lotta Brachioplasty Questions
GradyCat replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'll be following this thread because I'm going to be in a similar situation with "bat wings" when I reach my goal hopefully by the end of the year. I'm very curious as to the answers and information people provide. -
Endoscopy Day! Now it’s getting real!
GradyCat replied to KimB7811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took Omeprazole for YEARS and then now 3.5 months post-op sleeve I no longer have GERD and don't have to take it anymore. -
That's exciting! I can buy a few Medium but mostly Large now instead of XL and 2X.

How did you feel after gastric sleeve surgery? Any
GradyCat replied to Asull1188's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you're not feeling well. I got lucky. I never had any pain, never took any pain meds, and only had nausea the first day post-op in the hospital but never again. Hang in there, it does get better and it's worth it. -
That's GREAT! I thought I'd make Onederland this week, but maybe next week. I'm SO CLOSE! Yeah, I can't do steak, soft tortillas, and some other foods still at 3.5 months post-op.

Stage 3 (bariatric soft puree) after one week?!
GradyCat replied to shanshan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgeons differ in their beliefs. My instructions were liquids for two weeks post-op. -
Why do people have trouble swallowing after surgery?
GradyCat replied to Briswife15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not sure as I didn't have any troubles with swallowing. -
Scared/second thoughts
GradyCat replied to shanshan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's perfectly normal to be a little scared and think twice before surgery. After all, it's a big deal with risks and unknowns. But if you read the threads here, the majority of us have had success and no complications, so maybe that'll set your mind at ease somewhat. -
Only my husband knows. At Christmas when I was just 2 weeks post-op I had to make an excuse to my MIL as to why I wasn't eating (I told her I had just had my hiatal hernia fixed and could only eat liquids for a few days). I was on a cruise two weeks ago and just told my tablemates that I was watching my weight to explain why I hardly ate anything. People aren't nearly as observant as you would think and they might not even notice your eating patterns at these events. You can just say you're watching your weight or dieting to explain your weight loss without telling them about the WLS.

I'm 3 months post-op and can't imagine drinking carbonated beverages. Surgeon's instructions were not to have them, so I'm not. I think it would be too fizzy and gassy and make me full and bloated.

I paid up front the day of surgery but my part was only about $300

Are you still on lifetime care with your bariatric office? Maybe the nutritionists there might have some advice. I see articles about pouch reset diets and going 1 or 2 weeks on liquids only and then back to 600-800 calories a day like you did right after surgery. Maybe that'll help? Good luck.

I haven't tried real pasta yet since surgery 3.5 months ago, but I didn't know there were "fake" pastas out there. Good to know.

week 2 only .5kg lost. HELP!!!
GradyCat replied to Ezinne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's, that's normal. You get numbers the first two weeks, then a stall, then things start moving slowly but steadily. -
That's a long stall. Have you tried going back to all liquids for a week for a re-set? Are you still eating 600-800 calories?
-
Good luck, you'll do fine, just be honest and don't be nervous.
-
If you've scanned the threads, EVERYBODY hits a stall around Weeks 3 or 4. Everybody! It's normal. Your body is adjusting to the trauma it's been through, then adjusting from liquids to soft foods and soft foods to solids. It's normal. Don't be discouraged, it's okay. Hang in there. The scale will move in a week or two.

Walking is an easy peasy way to get some exercise in. Can you walk around your block when you get home or before work?
-
Hang in there and good luck with your surgery.

Received insurance approval last week. Going crazy!
GradyCat replied to Fazzini Bee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations! It's so exciting when you get approved. Good luck with your weight loss journey. -
I drank a lot of sugar-free or unsweet iced tea, Gatorade Zero, sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free jello, and water with Crystal Light.
-
Yes, I read about pouch resets all the time on the internet, though they're not on the bariatric sites, so I don't know if they're a real thing. They talk about going back to post-op eating, starting with liquids only for a week or two, then soft foods, then solid foods staying between 600-800 calories.

I had GERD before the sleeve surgery 12/11/18. It got worse for several weeks after the surgery. Now it's completely gone! I was taking prescription Omeprazole (generic for Priloesec), 20 mg and it was working. I don't take anything for it anymore and it doesn't happen anymore!

spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend/family heavy??
GradyCat replied to ProudGrammy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The last time I saw my cousin, who lives out of town, who I hadn't seen in 10 years, the first words out of her mouth were, "So I see you finally got fat like the rest of us." It really hurt my feelings! My brother is obese and my mother was obese and my cousin who said the hurtful thing is obese, so yeah, it runs in my family but I'm working hard at overcoming the issues and breaking the cycle.
