    Weight Loss Scale

I TRY to only weigh once a week so I won't get discouraged with the daily fluctuations or stalls, but I find myself weighing every morning . . . and regretting it because the numbers don't change enough. I was having my husband put the scale on the top shelf of the closet so I couldn't reach it and only getting it down for me on Monday mornings.

    Heartburn 2 months post op?

Yes, I am completely cured now of GERD and Acid Reflux. I had it for a few weeks post-op, then it went away completely.
  3. Whatever you use, just be sure you're getting in your 64 oz of liquid daily so you don't dehydrate. I've never heard of "infant" water before.

    Gained weight

Don't panic, it's not real weight gain. You just had major surgery. It's fluids and swelling and stuff. Quit weighing yourself for a while. This too shall pass.
  5. Yes, I'm also 4 months post-op and I just had my first gain after eating a handful of crackers the other day. My calories were still good, under 1,000 but they've been creeping up from averaging 650 to averaging 850-900, so I guess I'm going to have to be more careful and cut back even though my surgeon said calories didn't matter as long as it was protein. I guess ANY carbs are going to throw my body out of whack, setting me back to weeks to re-lose it and start losing more. Damn it!

    Ketosis - getting desperate...

That sounds like me. I'm driving myself crazy. I ate 5 crackers with cheese and gained 2 pounds and I don't understand why?!?!? I was still under 1000 calories. I was staying closer to 600, which I guess I'm going to have to really make an effort to stay at as I was losing weight then but at 850 calories I am not losing for two weeks. Ugh!

    They make potassium supplements.

How many ounces can everyone fit 12 months PO

I can't eat that much yet. I'm 4 months post-op and stay between 2-4 oz
  9. I think the important part is the liver-shrinking and it's not about losing weight in the pre-op diet

    2 1/2 Weeks Post-op food intake

I'm four months post-op and still only eat about 2-4 oz at a time

    Weight Stall Rant

There's the infamous Week 3 Stall that everybody goes through so you'll hit a wall there and it won't be because of anything you've done. It just happens. But you've lost weight already and you will continue to do so.

Post Surgery Diet and Loss Rates

We lose weight faster during the liquid phase because it's right after the surgery and that's when the greatest weight loss is. Now at 4 months post-op I don't think doing a liquid diet for two weeks would generate greater weight loss than continuing eating the protein foods than I am now eating. Also, the first six months is the greatest period of post-op loss and happens slightly quicker than later.

    Post-op sleeve travel

I went on a two-week cruise two months post-op sleeve and I took protein snacks with me. I was very careful with my choices of food during the cruise and ate mainly protein, no desserts, no ice cream and snacked on protein snacks that I had brought with me (almonds, protein cake bites, protein chips) if I was still hungry. It also worked well for plane travel to keep me from making bad choices. So yes, take your diet stuff with you. Oh, by the way, I lost 3 pounds on my 2-week cruise.

    Calories TOO low?

I just had this conversation with my nutritionist and my surgeon on my 3-month post-op appointment four days ago. The nutritionist said to stay around 800 calories but as long as the extra calories were coming from protein and not from carbs or fat or something she wasn't worried about it. The surgeon said she doesn't talk calories at all or recommend a range but to just stick to a plate consisting of 1/2 protein, 1/4 veggies/fruit, 1/4 grains and eat the protein first, if full stop, if not, then proceed next to veggies and lastly and only if still hungry to grains. She said I could eat as much protein as I wanted. She said all calories aren't equal and protein calories were okay. I asked how on earth my body wasn't shutting down and putting a stall on everything at so few calories and she said just keep feeding it protein and you'll lose weight.

I take GNC soft chews, 4 different ones. B12, D, Multi-Vitamin, and Calcium.

2 days post op horrendous heartburn

That's pretty normal because your body has just been through a lot of trauma. For the first few weeks after surgery I had bad acid reflux/heartburn and then it went away. It was just the healing process.

    HBP after VSG

Yes, I just talked to my surgeon about this Tuesday. Mine was syncope or near syncope when standing up and I thought my blood pressure was getting too low and she said it's because my body needs salt/sodium and to add a little more to my diet.

    Protein and Water Intake

It's okay to stay on liquids a little bit longer. Are you possibly eating/drinking too fast? Is it vomiting the food or is "the foamie?" Foamy mucus means your body isn't ready for whatever it is you're eating.

    After surgery

The first day post-op was horrible for nausea, but the second day it was gone and never came back. Get well soon!
  20. That's an awfully long plateau or stall. Maybe it's time to cut back calories a little and go back to basics? Are you drinking enough water still? Hang in there.

    Ready for pureed food stage

    Looks like you're well-prepared.
  22. If you like your sweets like I do, you've got to try this recipe I made yesterday. It rocked my world! 2 scoops of chocolate protein powder 10 packets of splenda 1/4 cup of smooth peanut butter 1/4 cup of margarine You melt the peanut butter and margarine in a small saucepan just enough to soften it, then you mix it with the dry ingredients, press the mixture into a square pan and chill it in the refrigerator for an hour, then cut into squares. I made my first batch last night and wow oh wow was it good! What a treat for this sweet tooth and so filling. Nutritional info: 9 servings - 60 calories per serving, 6 g protein per serving, 2.5 g fat per serving, 4 g carbs per serving, 2 g sugar per serving
  23. I try not to get caught up in the comparison game of people who had surgery the same day I did but have lost more weight than I have so far. I just have to worry about me and my own journey and I enjoy learning things here on this Forum that makes me understand my own journey better.

    Hardest part

Learning that slow weight loss is better than no weight loss. I was hoping it would drop faster, but that's okay. Also, not drinking with meals.

    i hate cardio.

I enjoy cardio, walking on the treadmill, recumbent bike, elliptical, walking . . . but I make myself do the strength-training weight machines at the gym too to make sure I'm getting a well-rounded workout toning muscle and burning fat.
