Bowel prep before surgery?
GradyCat replied to mesja68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to do anything like that before surgery. I had a bowel movement before leaving the hospital and haven't had any constipation whatsoever. -
Stopped losing weight already?
GradyCat replied to PudgeBeGone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It looks like nearly everybody gets the Week 3 or 4 stall and it seems several of us have also gotten it around Week 16 as well. That's what I've learned so far from these forums. I've experienced both and am just getting out of a stall going on Week 18. -
I got to the gym 4 or 5 days a week and I do 30 minutes of cardio (elliptical, treadmill, or recumbent bike) and 15 minutes of strength training machines at the gym using 40 pounds for my arms and 150 pounds for my legs.

And I thought I was too "old" at 53. I don't think there's any age too young or too old to get healthier and use this surgery as a tool for a better life. Good luck with your WLS journey.

Stopped losing weight already?
GradyCat replied to PudgeBeGone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's the famous Week 3 or 4 stall. Everybody gets it. It's temporary for 1-2 weeks. -
Make sure you have plenty of liquids and soft mushy foods like cottage cheese, sugar free popsicles, sugar free pudding, jello and foods that you can have readily available.

Scared about endoscopy/colonoscopy
GradyCat replied to ohjuly7878's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, you don't bring your CPAP and the propofol IS the twilight medication. It's wonderful! You'll have the best sleep on your life. -
Scared about endoscopy/colonoscopy
GradyCat replied to ohjuly7878's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had obstructive sleep apnea and used a CPAP when I had my endoscopies and colonoscopy and had absolutely no trouble. It' s not like regular anesthesia when you have surgery, they just "twilight" you and it's easy to wake up from, no nausea, no problems. -
Those photos of tights are hilarious!

Thanks for the advice. I'm in a stall. My carbs stay below 30 but my protein's only been around 70, so I'll up it.

my sister say I'm taking easy way out by having weight loss surgery
GradyCat replied to Summer56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She's not being very supportive, but then again it's hard for others to understand our plight with obesity. Do what's best for you. It isn't the easy way out because the dieting continues for years after the surgery. The surgery doesn't magically make you skinny. It's a lot of work, but the surgery is just a tool that makes it a little bit easier to do the diet. I didn't tell anybody but my husband about my WLS because I didn't want to hear the judgers and the haters and making me feel like crap like I wasn't strong enough to do it on my own. -
Positive, no regrets journey so far! For those in need of this type of read!
GradyCat replied to ZGal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm glad you had a good experience. So did I. No pain, no nausea once I got home from the hospital, no problems with constipation, no infection, no leaks, no problems. I'm very happy for the surgery. -
I started on solid foods one month post-op. The head hunger or cravings don't necessarily go away, but they're easier to deal with post-op than they were pre-op. Your weight loss will slow down to 1-2 pounds a week after the first month.

Glad you're doing okay. I was surprised at how much easier it was than expected. I was nauseous on Day #1, but felt good and was up and walking. Take care and good luck on your WLS journey.

Protein infused water or clear drinks
GradyCat replied to Marissa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For clear ones I like Premiere Protein clear shakes, tastes like tropical punch, I get them at Sam's Club but I don't remember how much they cost, but they're reasonably priced. -
I like Pure Protein chocolate deluxe.

I think it'd be okay, but they warn you that your sensitivity to alcohol will be much greater/you'll get drunker quicker, so be careful.

Wow, congrats! You've lost over 100 pounds in 4 months? Wow! I'm so jealous! I've only lost 35. Hanging in there for the long-haul though.

Had gastric sleeve done on Thursday.
GradyCat replied to ElaineP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Believe me, it's worth the pain and nausea for a couple of days to extend your life and lost that weight. -
Happy Surgiversary! Way to go!

I still drink a protein shake every morning because it's easy and I like it.

30 minute wait time for drinking after purees?
GradyCat replied to Briswife15's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yes, get used to separating your drinking from your eating now so you'll have good habits when you start on solid foods. -
That's great, good luck!

Low blood pressure after wls
GradyCat replied to RoRoKitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine hasn't been that low, which sounds too low, but mine definitely got lower as I started losing weight and I had to quit taking my blood pressure medicine and my surgeon also said to add some salt into my diet.
