Shortly after my sleeve almost 4 months ago, when I first started eating solid food, I got "the foamies" where I would get an uncomfortable rolling cramping feeling in my stomach and have to throw up foamy mucus. I learned about "the foamies" here on BariatricPal and knew it meant I was trying to eat a food that I wasn't yet able to tolerate, like soft tortillas or steak. But today I was just having salmon, which I've had a dozen times since surgery without incident. Maybe I ate too fast? What causes you have to have "the foamies?"

Pain and burning in 1 of lower incisions
GradyCat replied to KarenLR75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you had your post-op appointment yet? I'd have your surgeon look at that spot then. -
How many pounds do you lose per week/per month?
GradyCat replied to froufrou's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's really slowed down for me and I've checked and double-checked that I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be. -
I'm a weirdo because I never really liked food to begin with. I got fat due to cookies and sweets. If I never had pizza or mac and cheese or pasta or any food ever again, I wouldn't miss it.

Absolutely you should start now. Start eating like you're going to be eating post-surgery with small meals. Go ahead and get as much exercise as you can.

I'm 54. I go to the gym at least 4 days a week, sometimes more, and do a total of 30 minutes each day of some cardio and some strength training weight lifting machines. On cooler days I also walk outside for 20 minutes. It keeps my legs tight and toned and keeps my blood circulating and healthy.

What do you eat in a day 6 months post op?
GradyCat replied to Tejee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was getting around 800 calories a day but had stalled, so I upped it to 1000 and started losing weight again. I focus on high protein, little to no carbs. -
Drink straight out of a plastic or glass container with no straw. Sip, sip, sip all day long. Stay hydrated.

Feeling cold, does it get better with time or a forever thing?
GradyCat replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had that, so maybe it's just a bypass thing. (I was sleeved) -
Do you take calcium supplements if you are getting 4-5 servings of dairy in your diet?
GradyCat replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yes, I take two Calcium Citrate soft chews every day. I had labs last week and they're fine, but it might be because I'm taking supplements that they're fine. I'm just following doctor's orders -
You're still healing, so you'll gain energy with time. Don't push it. Some of us take a little longer than others and it depends on what kind of shape you were in before the surgery too. Take a few steps each day and you'll get better each day. Good luck on your WLS journey.

I had a long history of GERD and Acid Reflux. I'm 54 years old. I had the sleeve 8 months ago. Now I no longer have either Acid Reflux or GERD. Both are gone.

Good luck on your WLS journey

At least the pre-op diet is short, but oh so necessary, so please continue to follow it to the letter and good luck on your WLS.

I was already in menopause before VSG and it hasn't changed anything. I don't have any symptoms. Well, actually I used to get some night sweats and come to think of it I haven't had any in about six months since surgery. Huh.

Weight loss post surgery
GradyCat replied to lisabaxter62's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You're full of inflammation from the trauma from the surgery and also IV fluids. Don't weigh yourself for a while. It's temporary. -
Cravings Are Killing Me
GradyCat replied to RoseQuartz56's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is going to be a lifetime commitment to healthy foods, not just the few weeks until you can have solid food again. You have to get through the head hunger and focus on what you're eating. Stick with protein. -
I take protein bars, protein cake bites, protein chips, and almonds with me when I travel. I also take an empty water bottle and fill it up after I get through security at the airport.

About two weeks, need time for the incisions to completely cover over and be sealed.
-
I never actually did any pureed food during that stage. I went from liquid to soft to solid. I did applesauce, sugar free pudding, and cottage cheese during the soft stage.
-
Very common. I take biotin supplements every day, I use Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner and I'm using Minoxidil.

I felt the same way for a while. The weight hasn't just melted off and I've been in stalls despite doing everything I'm supposed to be doing. I lost more weight in the same amount of time in the past doing the Atkins Diet or Weight Watchers. But I realize this is long-term that I need to be focusing on and I realize that with those past diets I put the weight back on. So, this is more long-term and permanent now.

I started using a straw a little bit at about 4 months out. I rarely use it now but on occasion.

Another Milestone & Words of Encouragement

Thanks. I needed to hear that this morning. -
It's never too late to be healthy and feel good. Good luck on your WLS journey.
