Insurance pre-approval; 5 year weight history???
GradyCat replied to trinitysleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not aware of my insurance company asking for a 5 year weight history and I was approved. -
2 Day Clear Liquid Diet
GradyCat replied to Bianca S.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do it. It's just 2 days. Space out the drinking and sip, sip, sip all day long to keep you feeling full and not get hungry. -
My tip, 8 months post-op VSG, is to take the commitment seriously as a permanent lifestyle change. Your eating habits MUST change and it's imperative that you follow the program.

I still can't eat bread or soft tortillas or else I get the foamies. Here's my kitty, Grady the Gray Cat.

Get that protein in. You can do it. It's not that hard. One protein shake has 25-30 g of protein, so drinking just 2 of them a day would meet your goal. The two week liquid diet isn't about losing weight, it's about healing from your surgery.

Pre-Op Diet Day 4 Struggling with shakes.
GradyCat replied to Alasyx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like they're trying to make money on their own sales of shakes. Try a different brand. I use GNC Leak Shakes pre-made chocolate. -
Way to go!

Pneumonia is just so draining. I had it once and was exhausted for 6 full weeks. Don't worry too much about your protein while recovering but be sure to stay hydrated and sip, sip, sip all day long.

Good job. Keep up the good work. -
I've got the 6 month post op blues
GradyCat replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Fighting the same battle here at 8 months. Logging in what I eat each day. Was on track but ate a few cookies this past weekend. Not the end of the world, but I don't want to start that bad habit back again. Otherwise, happy with my health changes and situation, just wish the scale would go down. Going to monitor my habits to see where I can improve. -
I've never been to a Trader Joe's but there's one a few miles from where I live. What should I get there?

The Best Decision We’ve EVER Made
GradyCat replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hooray for you both! -
It's really not her business why you're choosing to have this surgery. Each person's motivation is different and none of them are wrong. Just hang in there and good luck with your surgery.

Hair loss - what do you use to help hide it?
GradyCat replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I already had fine and thin hair before the WLS due to thyroid issues and heredity. I use Minoxidil, which is working to grow back some hair, Nioxxin hair shampoo and conditioner and scalp treatment for thickening, and taking Biotin. I comb my hair opposite its natural part to boost it up a little. -
Whose goal weight are you using? Your own or your program's?
GradyCat replied to Uterno's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon's office didn't set a goal for me. I picked one mid-range on the BMI chart. -
3 months post op restriction ?
GradyCat replied to 21pilots's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. Watch those portions. Stay at 1/2 cup. -
Yet Another Stall Complaint Thread
GradyCat replied to Ellf's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yep, stalled here since forever. Afraid I'm at maintenance but didn't lose enough weight yet/didn't think I was done losing weight. -
When could you tolerate salad?!
GradyCat replied to shellyk018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been afraid to try it. I just "know" my body won't like it. So far at 8 months post-op I still get the foamies if I eat any kind of bread, soft tortilla, or steak. -
I spend 20-30 minutes drinking one
-
That's so exciting! Congratulations! That's a Big Deal! I've got 10 more pounds to go to be "overweight"
-
No, I hadn't heard that. I've always used GNC Lean Shakes, premade, chocolate.

Today is exactly 8 months since my VSG surgery. I haven't lost as much weight as I had hoped to be this point, but I got back my first lab results since having the sleeve done and I am reflecting on how much healthier I am now than 8 months ago. Since having the WLS I have gotten rid of several co-morbidities: no more high blood pressure, no more sleep apnea, no more GERD, no more acid reflux. These are the best lab results I have EVER had! My triglycerides 18 months ago were 353 and now they're just 104! I'm not pre-diabetic anymore! I'm having no trouble absorbing vitamins . . . in fact they're way above the range where they should be, so I'm super-absorbing them now or something, taken just one soft chew each of Vitamin D, B12, Calcium Citrate and Multivitamin daily. So as I sit here sometimes wishing the scale was showing a lower number, I recognize how blessed I am with these great health results and am so happy that I had this surgery.

4 days post op and struggling to eat/drink anything
GradyCat replied to MinnieSD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sizes don't matter while you're recovering. Just be sure to get in as much protein shakes as possible (I use the GNC Premade chocolate shakes) and get in all the water, stay hydrated, sip, sip, sip all day long. -
How much are you gaining? It could just be water weight fluctuations when you weigh.
-
You're doing great, one week down, one week to go.
