Don’t want to eat, I mean drink
GradyCat replied to Ellandriel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Won't you go to solids in a week or so? I ate cans of Campbells Chicken Noodle Soup without the noodles and drank protein shakes during the liquid phase. -
3 days away!!!!

I know you're counting down the days. Good luck and take care. -
Travel Food Ideas Please!
GradyCat replied to KishaG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would pack some cold protein shakes. I don't even mind them room temperature if you don't want to pack a small cooler or something. I substitute them for meals all the time. -
Yes, your body will tell you when it doesn't like something. I still get the "foamies" 9 months out with bread, doughy things, soft tortillas, and pasta.

Every multi vitamin makes me sick
GradyCat replied to carterb's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had that problem my whole life, so I didn't take vitamins. Now post-WLS I HAVE to take vitamins, so I take soft chew vitamins from GNC and they've not made me sick at all and I'm absorbing my vitamins just fine. -

A lesson in eating slow for the newbs
GradyCat replied to NYJenn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh goodness! Thanks for sharing/the heads up -
I only get "the foamies" if I eat something my stomach rejects. Now 9 months post-op, my body still rejects doughy food like bread, rolls, soft tortillas, and pizza.

Sounds like you've got a handle on it. -
I asked the surgeon: What is the % of complications during surgery? How many surgeries have you performed? What is the success rate of VSG surgery?

Was anyone hungry right after surgery?
GradyCat replied to woolhatgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't hungry until about 3 weeks post-op. Just drank protein shakes and ate sugar free popsicles. -
That's great. It makes it feel so real when you get an actual surgery date.

Stopping Omeprazole-
GradyCat replied to FluffySaysForkIt!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took Omeprazole for several years before WLS. I had to have the h pylori breath test before surgery, so I had to stop taking it for two weeks prior to the test. I noticed that I didn't have any GERD or Acid Reflux during that two weeks, so I stopped taking it altogether. Now I'm 9 months post-VSG and haven't had any GERD or Acid Reflux and have still not taken any more of the Omeprazole. So far, so good. -
Good luck on your WLS journey.

I'm okay with cheese, but I was somewhat lactose-intolerant with milk and ice cream before VSG and now find that I'm totally intolerant and feel bloaty and painful if I have any.

It's way too easy to mindlessly eat something while watching tv. I know because I've recently had some Wheat Thins and found myself just keep sticking my hand in the box to grab more while watching a tv show. I'll have to remind myself not to bring food to the living room or have any on the table beside my chair.

What do you do for sweetening things?
GradyCat replied to Zemi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like Splenda in my decaf coffee, but everything else I take straight up without sweetener. -
Good to hear that you had a great experience.

You'll find that you won't be able to eat some of these things now, even though you crave them, your body will reject them. If you can't handle taking only a bite or two, then steer away from them because it could lead you down that slippery slope.
-
It's so important that you stay on that liver-shrinking pre-op diet to avoid complications with surgery. You can do it! Hang in there! Your body is just wondering where all the good stuff has gone and is giving you heck about it. Your body will adjust and it won't be so bad. Good luck on your WLS journey.

I get them when I get too much air from drinking too fast or using a straw or something.
