I had to look up what ostopenia was, I wasn't familiar with the term. I'm a year post-op and still take two calcium soft chews daily.

8 days post op RNY and feeling great.
GradyCat replied to Slimming Down Steve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Glad you're doing well. Your incisions look GREAT for so quickly after surgery, mine were still black and blue at this point. Good luck on your weight loss journey. -
Yes, I rumble too

GradyCat replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's going to slow down once you get into Onederland, but you've done OUTSTANDING! Way to go! -
Good luck on your weight loss journey.

EGD scheduled, then a date
GradyCat replied to jaim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The protein shakes I drink are chocolate, do you not like that either? I use GNC Lean Shakes, pre-made. They also come in Banana, Orange, Vanilla, Mocha and probably a few other flavors. -
It's NOT WORTH IT! Stop it! You're going to damage everything you went through and hope to accomplish in the future just to smoke? Didn't they tell you that you couldn't smoke afterwards? Please don't do it. Stop smoking.

You know your other liquids count as water too, right? Iced tea, protein shakes, coffee - anything liquid counts as your water intake. Mix it up. Have some hot tea. Have some crystal light mixed in your water. I never drank straight plain water, I always used a sugar-free flavored additive. I still do.

Could i smoke after 1 month ?
GradyCat replied to amirali.zarrin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Why on earth would you want to start smoking again? I thought patients had to quit smoking forever when they had bariatric surgery because it adversely affects your stomach lining. You were able to go 7 months without smoking, that should have ingrained the new habit for you. Please don't smoke again, it's so bad for you. -
Psychotherapy for revision seeking alcoholics
GradyCat replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sorry to hear that you've been going through a lot. Likely the alcohol is causing the GERD and you'd have to detox completely before undergoing another surgery. Your BMI might be too low at this point to qualify for a revision. But you have the opportunity to work on both issues if you focus first on the drinking part, have you tried AA? I don't think you're going to get your weight under control until you get your drinking under control. My surgeon's office has behavioral counselors as part of the program, does yours? Perhaps you could talk to them. -
Sleep Apnea Testing?
GradyCat replied to danielleleigh90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had the at-home test and it showed I DID NOT have Sleep Apnea any longer, after having had it for 2-3 years before surgery. So, I really don't know the answer to your question about if it shows that you DO have it if they have to follow up with an overnight test, but it seems like it would defeat the purpose of the home test, doesn't it? They've improved the home tests to be pretty accurate. -
It's a great feeling, isn't it? Way to go! Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Qualifying for surgery with mental health history
GradyCat replied to SAS11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a good question. I had major depressive disorder, anxiety, and early onset-dementia going into it but I got approved. They just want to know that you have realistic expectations of the outcome and will stick with the program. -
Passed my Cotinine/Nicotine Test
GradyCat replied to ImsexyandIknowit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you. I've never smoked, but I think it would be doubly hard for a smoker to prepare for weight loss surgery. You're fighting two things at once. -
I'm okay with my turkey neck now that I have more energy, fewer health problems and a new outlook on life.
-
Good luck and best wishes on your weight loss journey.

I wonder how much weight they gain back. A few pounds? All of it? Yes, the surgery itself is not the solution, it's just a tool. We still have to watch what we eat for the rest of our lives.

So happy for you!

6 days since surgery and my abs finally aren't hurting.
GradyCat replied to Slimming Down Steve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh, be careful eating solid food so soon after surgery. Glad you had your first bowel movement, that always is a blessing. But follow your eating plan closely, please, to avoid any problems. Stay on liquids for two weeks, then soft foods, before venturing into solids. Take care and good luck on your weight loss journey. -
LAST 20LBS HARDEST TO SHED?... NEED HELP?
GradyCat replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear ya! I'm no those last 20 pounds myself and mine has been STUBBORN. Now I'm kicking it back into gear and losing about 1/3 lb/day. I really had to experiment with my calorie intake and learned that I needed to be eating MORE calories because my body was refusing to lose when I was under 800 calories. Now I'm around 1100/day and that seems to be the magic number. Still small portions, lots of protein, lots of water and some exercise. -
Success in losing regained weight
GradyCat replied to ryan_86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a year out and started maintaining too early and gained a few pounds through the holidays. Since January 1st I'm back on the plan and the weight's already falling back off again. You can do it! -
Moving forward into a new life!!
GradyCat replied to Anki's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I joined this forum right around the time I had surgery or slightly before and it's answered a ton of questions for me. Just keep browsing through the threads and you'll find useful info. Good luck with your weight loss journey. -
Not likely stretched your pouch, but you might have had some trigger foods like sugar or carbs that you're craving and feeling hungry again. Remember when you first started dieting and you had to detox from sugar and it took a couple of weeks? It's like that. Just stick to your portion sizes going forward and everything will be fine.
-
I didn't have that problem, but it's super common. Some people use Milk of Magnesia or Magnesium Citrate. Don't worry, it'll come.

I don't think you can hurt anything by eating too much soup. It's AFTER the surgery that you need to stick with 1/2 cup of food. I think you're okay. Tomato soup doesn't have that many calories. You'll be fine.
