How long did you deal with head hunger post op?
GradyCat replied to Horseshowmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think the head hunger ever goes away. We're just better equipped to deal with it post-op because of the loss of gherelin and the smaller stomach. We just have to learn to combat it by drinking something. I find that drinking a sugar-free flavored coffee in between meals keeps me from getting head hungry because it takes me an hour to drink the tumbler of coffee and it keeps me busy and my mind thinks I'm eating something with the sweetness of the flavored syrup. -
I guess I haven't lost enough weight yet because I'm never cold. LOL! 😀 But over the past two years here on this forum I've seen a LOT of people talk about being cold so it's a real thing.

It's a shame that you can't have anybody there with you. I remember what a relief it was to see my husband in the recovery room when I woke up. Take care and we're here for you.

It's really the perfect time to start thinking about family gatherings as social rather than food events.

Brand suggestions
GradyCat replied to Puffy-no-more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh that's interesting. I went from a 42D to a 38D but stayed a D. I thought for sure I'd drop a cup size. But then again I've always had big boobs. 😀 I have never had any luck with girdles. All they do is push the fat up away from my belly and form a muffin top. -
What % of excess weight have you lost & in how long?
GradyCat replied to Kam-R's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I guess I lost 54% of my excess weight in 12 months. But then I've never lost another pound. It stayed there. Hoping to start over again (two weeks ago) and ramp this puppy back up for weight loss. -
That's wonderful, have a good sleep during the procedure and take care of yourself afterward. Keep us updated on your progress.

Insurance Through Postop
GradyCat replied to blackcatsandbaddecisions's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a 4 week post-op liquid diet too but I lived through it. Glad to hear that you're doing well. -
Help! Need Advice...
GradyCat replied to tcirivello's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be able to get the surgery you chose. Try again to explain to them that it was the nurse's fault and see if they can't do the switch on the already-scheduled date. -
2 week pre op how did you guys feel.?
GradyCat replied to melyg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Throw in some sugar free jello and some sugar free popsicles and that might help. -
Surgery for someone with no health issues
GradyCat replied to LaoDaBeirut's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just because you don't have health issues now doesn't mean the excess weight is harming you and will cause health issues later. I'd go ahead with it. Obesity is a medical condition all of itself and doesn't need comorbidities to require surgical intervention. -
Your PCP can refer you to a cardiologist for that approval. The gastro won't do that and the PCP probably won't (mine wouldn't).
-
It's called "The Foamies." If you eat something your stomach can't tolerate (for me it's tortillas) then your stomach will let you know. Or if you've eaten too much. You won't throw up food, but you'll get "the foamies" and throw up foam and saliva as a warning that your stomach doesn't like it.

Our state's COVID positivity rate is just under 10% and getting worse daily. Our governor just shut down bars and restaurants again placed strict limitations on social gatherings, gyms, churches, etc.
-
Just remember it's only for a short time (2 weeks) and you can do ANYTHING for just two weeks. After surgery you won't be as hungry and it'll be easier, plus your stomach will be smaller so you won't be able to eat as much and the gherelin will be gone.

3 months out anger and mad at the world
GradyCat replied to Hollow star's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your surgeon's office have psych counseling? Mine offers free lifetime counseling with the surgery. Maybe he/she would help you. Or your PCP could refer you to a therapist. Sounds like you need to talk. We're here to listen. -
Struggling with sugar substitutes
GradyCat replied to RB4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Geeze, that would be tough. I know sugar substitutes aren't necessarily that good for you but they're a lifesaver for me, a sweet-a-holic. Do they make you sick? Have you tried the newest one yet . . . erythritol? It's supposed to be natural. -
My first post-op vacation was a cruise. Now I know what you're thinking: FOOD! But it was actually easy because they had all the healthy options to choose from and I was so committed that I didn't indulge in the bad options. Now when I travel I take protein shakes and protein bars with me for breakfast at hotels and snacks.

You did better than I did. I went into Walgreens and the fudge-covered Oreos were staring at me (12 to a box) and I was feeling sorry for myself during COVID lockdown and ate six of them the first day and the other six the second day! Never again!

Is It Safe To Go To The Hospital During Covid 19 Pandemic?
GradyCat replied to Numbheart's topic in The Lounge
They're limiting it to just the patient in some hospitals where they take your temperature and make you wear a mask even during a procedure and in other hospitals they'll let one family member visit a patient, again after taking their temperature and requiring a mask. -
There are several things my stomach still won't tolerate: bread, pasta, steak, tortillas. I guess I miss biscuits and gravy the most.
-
There are multiple studies now saying that the mask helps . . . and multiple studies saying the mask does nothing. So who knows? For me, I'm wearing it because it's required.

I think you're wise to address it now. I waited until my 50's after struggling with weight my entire life. Sure, it's added years to my life and I'm happy I did it, but I could have had 30 more happy years. Good luck!

It's such a wonderful feeling not to have to shop in the "Big Girl" stores or order plus sizes anymore!
