update on 10 years out regain, and weight loss
GradyCat replied to BriarRose's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
You've GOT this! You can do it. You've done great for 10 years out. Be proud of yourself. -
I've found that I need a few carbs thrown in to be able to lose weight. Sounds odd, I know, but it's what works for me. I gained a few pounds (10-12) during COVID so now I'm doing the pre-op diet thing and resetting and it's working. SLOWLY, but it's working. I'm losing. It'll work. Trust the process.

I never had a single minute of pain, never took any pain meds. I just had 24 hours of nausea after the surgery (while still in the hospital) and after that it was a DREAM! Easy peasy. Enjoy it!

Anyone have chest pain after drinking?
GradyCat replied to Carmela_801's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'll get it if I drink something carbonated or drink something too cold. Most things have to be at least room temperature for me now post WLS. -
It happens to me too. I need a few carbs in my life to stay regular and lose weight. It seems like I stall forever and then when I eat something "bad" I end up losing weight. It's the weirdest damn thing. My husband calls me Opposite Girl. I guess the body needs a little shaking up now and then.

Great job on keeping the weight loss despite the challenges. It takes a while for the GERD drugs to take effect in your body. Give it some more time.

Onederland is a great place to be. Congrats!

Thanks for the honesty. But you know you really didn't gain 3 lbs, right? It's water weight and carb weight and your body reacting to a whole lot of grazing. But you couldn't possibly have gained 3 whole pounds in 1 day. So it'll settle back down but I'm glad you're focusing for the future.

Sounds like GERD but the tums should help it. You might need Prilosec or Nexium for better results.

Are you gifting yourself anything special this holiday season?
GradyCat replied to Horseshowmom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think I'm gifting myself a Renpho body scale that I've been reading people on here talk about. -
Now you've got me curious to want to get a smart scale to measure my other things in addition to weight.
-
Generally speaking, probably not as it is considered cosmetic surgery, but there's some chance if you have a "medical" problem resulting from the excess skin.

Scrambled eggs don't have to be pureed because they're soft. They're allowed on Week 2, just don't overdo it.
-
I see you didn't do it. GOOD FOR YOU! Way to go!

Hard to lose 9 lbs by December 16tj
GradyCat replied to blackgirlmagicrnybypass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein shakes will get you the protein you need and keep you full. Add in a few veggies or cheese slices throughout the day. -
Do we all need 70 grams of protein if we do NOT have surgery?
GradyCat replied to Kelchicky's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Yes, our bodies really need this amount of protein. I get TONS of it now because my whole eating patterns have changed post-WLS. I don't eat any carbs and I don't like veggies, so pretty much all I eat is protein. I also still drink chocolate protein (25 g) for breakfast, so that's 1/3 of my daily needs right there. -
As we start this Thanksgiving Day in the USA, let's remember that it's not about the food. It's about family and relationships and giving thanks. I'm thankful for the Sleeve WLS and what it's done for my health, mobility, self-esteem, and confidence. I'm thankful for these forums to support and encourage one another through our WLS journeys. Happy Thanksgiving!

Healthy versions of junk food
GradyCat replied to BigSue's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 2 years post-op and I have never liked food, so sweets were my downfall and continue to be my go-to snack. So I rely heavily on protein bars, keto bars, sugar-free snacks, etc. to satisfy my need for sweets. It hasn't added pounds to me. It works out well for me. -
Diet from program includes bread for breakfast and lunch anyone else
GradyCat replied to NewWorldMe's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No, my new stomach won't tolerate bread. I can get in about 1/2 a piece but then I really feel full and can't eat anything else and I'll get the "foamies" if I eat anymore. That's surprising. Maybe you just need more fiber, which you can get in things besides bread. -
Medicare paid for my surgery. It was medically necessary, I had a BMI of 40 and two comorbidities. I didn't have to do the six months pre-op weight loss program.

3 months post op. Anxiety, head hunger and insomnia.
GradyCat replied to perfektlynrml's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Definitely can relate. I woke up at 1 am, wasn't hungry, but had anxiety, and ate protein cake bites. No reason. I don't have "hunger signals." I never did before surgery and I don't now either. I just ate out of boredom or stress and anxiety. I take anxiety medication and an anti-depressant. My psych was super supportive about my WLS and talked me through head hunger and eating appropriately. Your surgeon's office should have a therapist on staff and a nutritionist for your lifetime support. You might want to talk to the therapist about the head hunger. Mine talked to me about "mindfulness" but that didn't work for me. Now I just eat small tiny portions that my stomach will allow and eat about every 3 hours just a tiny little healthy bit. -
Just in time for Thanksgiving! 😀

Way to go! Did you take a photo of the scale in Onederland? Most of us do. It's an exciting day! Woot-Woot!

I didn't have a weight loss requirement pre-op, but I know from the pre-op diet and post-op eating program that you need to focus on protein 60g or more per day, 64+ ounces of water per day, restrict carbs (pasta, rice, bread), and ensure that any Fats you are getting are the healthy kind.

I wasn't aware there was a robot surgery. Good luck!
