Finally Sleeved and looking forward to the future!
GradyCat replied to StacyMendes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations and best wishes on your weight loss journey. People are cruel. My mother-in-law talks about me being "so big" behind my back and it's hurtful. -
I know you're disappointed, frustrated, and probably even a little bit mad. But you can do this. It will happen. COVID has changed everybody's lives and the states are each handling the surges differently with shutting down restaurants and gyms and hair salons and now elective surgeries. Mourn the delay but hang in there and stay with your diet and be ready for the rescheduling. Don't give up.

How hunger feels now
GradyCat replied to Arabesque's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wish I had true hunger instead of head hunger, worry hunger, anxiety hunger, and boredom hunger. -
It depends on the type of surgery you're having. I had the VSG. They had to keep me overnight to test my stomach for leaks before they could let me go

Overeating & Food Obsessed Again...need direction please
GradyCat replied to happydance3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first step is admitting you have a problem. You've done that. The basics of WLS eating isn't about counting carbs or calories but focusing on 60-70g of protein daily, eating whole foods, and drinking at least 64 oz of water daily. Start there. -
Nervous and unsure
GradyCat replied to TimeToFeelFit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I travel internationally a lot and I can try a little bit of anything I want. But my stomach is small so I can't eat huge quantities at a time. That's the tool of the WLS -- to keep me from overeating. When you travel you can focus on the culture and the scenery and try little samples of the food. It's not a prison sentence. It's a wake-up call. -

I stopped losing after 4 months and maintained it until COVID and gained 10-12 lbs but have now lost 1/2 of that back. I eat meals perfectly with the right portions and right foods. But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE am ADDICTED to chocolate and find myself grabbing it still when stressed, anxious, or bored. The struggle is real.

4 months post-op, weight loss has stopped - is this a stall or something else?
GradyCat replied to MoominMan's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I quit losing at 4 months. I've maintained but not lost anymore. -
Being a slower loser is better than not losing at all. And it means you're more likely to make the weight loss permanent. I have found that when I go on "no carb" diets that I don't lose weight because my body needs carbs to break down the fat and sugar. Everyone's body is different.

Any time you change things up on your body (new food, more food, less food, new exercise) it's going to react until it's certain what you're doing to it.

Oatmeal is kind of thick, so that's why they want you to have cream of wheat because it's thinner. Thick isn't good at this point.

Hospital discharge alone?
GradyCat replied to JPinNH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're going to be staying overnight, they should let you drive yourself to and from without question. Its only if it's outpatient with anesthesia that they won't let you drive yourself home. I would think Home Instead might be a service you could use if absolutely necessary. -
I'm two years post-op and I still can't eat noodles or pasta. Maybe that's what did it?
-
I'd get a second gastroenterologist opinion because that definitely doesn't sound right. Wishing him the best.

Now you know what t feels like and you won't want to do it again. Everybody's done it and we learn from it. Take care.
-
Chicken, deli ham, and cheese all sound perfect.
-
You won't feel hungry, so you won't be tempted by holiday fare. That's GOOD NEWS! Stay hydrated and if you do any socializing, take a protein drink with you to have to sip on.
-
Good to know. Thanks.
-
Yes, that's why getting fat is so easy because junk food is cheap. Healthy food is so much more expensive.
-
You won't get to change into pajamas because they'll have you hooked up to IVs and monitors, so just stay in the ugly hospital gown. Chapstick and lotion. Phone and charger. You'll be nauseous and not want to do anything but walk the first 24 hours.

My weight loss journey
GradyCat replied to Dlynnde's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Many of us here have tried and failed many diets to the point where our health is in jeopardy because of the weight. It's a life-changing decision and opportunity for us to be healthy and live longer. -
Still waiting for surgery. Covid 19 delay
GradyCat replied to beachparty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hang in there and stay on your pre-op diet so you'll be ready when you get rescheduled. It'll happen. -
Some of us get what we call "the foamies." It's not vomiting, but it's mucus coming back up and sometimes you spit up because you ate too much or ate something dense that your stomach didn't like.

You've lost 18 pounds in 2 weeks and you wonder if that's normal? That's HUGE! Have you ever lost that much in two weeks before WLS? You should be excited!
