My biggest fear is it won't work...

Everybody has those fears. It's only natural. We've all tried and failed at multiple diets so we're expecting this to fail as well. Have faith and good luck with your WLS journey.
  2. You're eating soft foods already? That should usually be like 2-3 weeks post-op and you should be on liquids. Try going back to liquids and see if you get heartburn then. I used to have GERD before WLS but now I don't.

What to bring to the hospital?

You won't need much. Don't bring pajamas because you'll be tethered to an IV and heart monitor and won't be able to get your arm into/out of sleeves. Bring your phone and charger. Comb. Lip balm. Lotion. Toothpaste, toothbrush, and deodorant.

    Stall very early on?

You've gotta get that water in. Try adding some flavored sugar-free powder to it, like Crystal Light or something to mix things up. Your body just went through major trauma with surgery, so it might need to rest for a minute to figure out what you're doing to it before starting to release some additional weight. Most people experience their first stall around Week 3 or 4 but maybe you're a quick learner. Hahaha. Seriously though, don't sweat it. Just follow the program.

my doctor said they weren't proven successful and advised me against them

    Anxiety and Bariatric Surgery

Is your friend anxious about the surgery itself or has anxiety in general? Either way, that shouldn't prevent them from having surgery. Their surgeon's office should have a mental health specialist on staff to help talk them through it.
  7. Congratulations, you've hit your first stall. Perfectly normal. Don't panic. Most people hit it in Week 3 or 4. It'll take a couple of weeks to get moving again. Just keep doing what you're doing.

    The post op pain

Aren't they giving you IV pain meds while you're in the hospital? Tell your nurse!
  9. You won't be weaker, you'll be stronger. Your body is still adjusting from major surgery and your body is changing daily due to weight loss. Are you taking your vitamins? Getting in 60-70g protein daily? That'll help.

    Sleeve vs Bypass

I've heard the bypass is more invasive but I don't understand why since the sleeve is basically cutting off 3/4 of your stomach, which is pretty damned invasive! 😀 I guess the bypass is more complicated. I'm happy with my sleeve.
  12. I've never heard of such a thing. Thanks for the info.
  13. Nothing. I didn't buy anything special for my kitchen. I used my postage meter scale once or twice to weigh food but that's about it. I already had measuring cups. I didn't change the size of my plates or anything. You don't have to invest a lot of money in it. Just use common sense and follow your surgeon's directions.
  14. It sounds like you're doing really well and making good choices.

    How long did it last...

I'm 2 year out and the sleeve is still a tool that works for me.
  17. It's not certain foods that stretch your stomach, it's the overreating and portions. Certain foods, however, might be rejected by your stomach. I can barely eat rice or pasta, no more than 2 spoonfulls/forkfulls or else I'll get "the foamies" where I throw up mucus because my stomach doesn't like it. But my surgeon said it would take A LOT for someone to stretch their stomach.

    Anxious about Covid

Surgery in a sterile operating room is one of the safest places you'll ever be. Rest assured it'll be fine.
  19. How is that possible? Your surgeon should have included the required two-night stay as part of the approval process? Appeal it!
  20. It's hard when you compare yourself or your results to someone else. Each person's journey is different and unique. Just try really hard to get the protein and water in and do the best you can.

    TMI- Frequent Bowel Movement

Pooping is a wonderful thing! Be glad that you're doing it regularly and without issue. 😀 Are you eating a lot of carbs? Sometimes a high-carb meal flushes through really quickly and mushy.
  22. You'll be fine. The biggest issue post-op is nausea from the anesthesia, so they're experts at this. Just be sure to get up and walk as much as you can. You'll be in good hands.
  23. First of all, I'm so sorry you have COVID and I wish you the best recovery. That being said, yes, you'll be out your OOP for it being rescheduled to next year. But it's worth it.

    Appearance of scars

It was less than a year for me. I'm two years post-op and you wouldn't even know they're there. They faded and look like freckles now.

    Stomach pain when eating?

Have you had your follow-up appt with your surgeon yet? I'd mention it. Doesn't sound right.
