That's very different and interesting. I didn't know it was a thing.

My gym (Kentucky) is open with hand-washing/sanitizing stations but they require you to wear a mask while working out. How the hell am I supposed to do cardio and breathe with a mask on? So I haven't been since COVID.

LOOKING For a GOOD, Reasonably Priced Fitness Tracker
GradyCat replied to TheMoxieMama's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I tried a fitness larger-faced wristwatch looking thing and didn't like it. Too complicated. I just needed the basics with heart rate, calories and steps that synchs with MyFitnessPal. My mother-in-law gave me her old FitBit Versa I think and it works fine for that. I think it was like $69 on sale with 30% discount at Kohl's. It's going on 3+ years, so it's held up well. -
Enjoy your new sport.

I like Skechers because they're affordable and they have great arch support.

I could maybe walk a 5k but definitely not run one. I'm OLD! LOL! I've been taking a few 15 minute breaks a couple of times a day and putting on my earbuds and iPod and dancing around the house. Just starting to get back into working out. Want to go to the gym (my membership is free) but I don't want to have to wear a mask there to do cardio. Sounds too difficult to breathe. But there are plenty of things I can do around the house and walk outside when it's not too cold. I'm going to try to incorporate regular exercise back into my life.

Do you ever get to the point of eating like a normal person?
GradyCat replied to Jaye W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will be able to eat anything you want to eat, just in smaller portions. But you'll focus on protein. -
Holy Hannah: A Date...A Date... I FINALLY got a Date!!
GradyCat replied to TreeTrunks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That's great news! Advice: Take the pre-op diet seriously. Now that you're scheduled, don't do any "food funerals" or binges. -
I am in the same boat you are and I just started back restricting calories to 600-800/day and the weight is falling off for right now, so I think it might work for a while. Also, I've been putting on headphones and my iPod and dancing around the house a couple of times a day, 10-15 minutes at a time to get some cardio. This boost was just what I needed to get those awful COVID 10-12 pounds off that I gained this year.

Hands and Feet are like ICE
GradyCat replied to NovaLuna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear a lot of people here say they are colder post-WLS but not specifically so severe in their extremities. Best to give the doctor a call. -
I think it takes about two weeks for the insurance company to review and approve.
-
The insurance company wouldn't necessarily have the scheduled date of your surgery, so his mention of a specific date of 1/11 is odd. First it gets approved, then it gets scheduled.
-
My doctor didn't give me any sugar restrictions. Those two aren't too different, so I'd say go with whichever you want.

Revision from VSG to BP
GradyCat replied to Glorious Release's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good question. And what do they revise? If your stomach is already sleeved, then they just it up now to bypass the stomach altogether? I'm not sure I understand revisions. Does the weight loss jumpstart again like it did with the original WLS? -
MTF WLS process? What can I expect?
GradyCat replied to MKL's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know what MTF means. -
Oh yeah, we all do at some point. You're not alone. I'm 2 years post VSG and I've gained 10-12 lbs. Working on getting it back off plus a few more. Going back to basics of measuring portions to 1/2 cup or less and 70 g of protein and 64 oz of water. Keeping calories between 600-800. It's working so far. I'm very motivated. I'm getting too old to keep going through this yo-yo cycle. Starting dancing around the house today with headphones and iPod to get some cardio because it's too cold to walk outside. You can do this!

Protein drinks are the staple of the post-op diet. I really like GNC Lean Shakes, premade, in chocolate.

At four weeks out you're probably hitting your first stall. It's inevitable. Everybody hits their first stall at Week 3 or Week 4. That might be slowing you down. But seriously, you're doing fine. Don't compare yourself to other people's weight losses at the same point because they started at different weights, are different ages, genders, and so on. Everybody's journey is unique to them.

That's good to know. I just wing it and that's probably what gets me in trouble. I might try meal prepping.

I’ve been approved for a revision
GradyCat replied to Glorious Release's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So can I ask a question? What are the insurance criteria for revisions? You're under 40 GMI now, but you have GERD, so is that a comorbidity? Are the approval requirements for a revision different than for original surgery? -
Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your great success with WLS. We look forward to seeing you around the threads.

I was sleeved in 2018 and found myself gain weight in 2020. I am now back to the basics of watching portions of 1/2 cup or less, 70g protein, 64 oz water, around 600-800 calories. I have faith it'll get me back to where I need to be. It should work for you too. You can do it!
-
Hooray for you! So exciting!

Walking IS a good thing. It may not be the #1 weight-loss method like dieting is, but it's still good for both your mental and physical health and your doctor shouldn't have been so negative about it. Keep up the walking!

To weigh or not weigh? Breaking scale obsession
GradyCat replied to iseanu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am totally scale obsessed. I actually have to get my husband to hide it from me sometimes. I weigh every day but I'm trying to train myself to limit weighing to once a week, the same time on the same day of each week, but I'm so curious as to what's happening with my weight. Water fluctuations don't help! So, long story short, I'd advise you to weigh yourself periodically, maybe every two weeks, to keep yourself in check, but not too often to get obsessed about it. Like you said, there are many other Non-Scale Victories (NSV) to measure our progress.
