Is there anything you wish you knew before surgery?
GradyCat replied to Zemi's topic in The Gals' Room
I wish I'd known about stalls. I wasn't expecting them and they're depressing but normal. -
Allowing for occasional treats
GradyCat replied to chuckwalsh's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm coming up on 5 months post-op and I'm scared to death to try a "treat" for fear of it becoming a habit again. I'm waiting until I've lost all the weight and hit the maintenance phase. I eat approx. 850 calories/day. -
Struggling The Last Couple Days
GradyCat replied to LoLo130's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing. -
I've seen a number of people here say they needed to sleep on a recliner for a couple of weeks post-op, so it must be a common thing.

8 weeks in and only lost 11kgs :(
GradyCat replied to May Hem 143's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You'll lose a certain % of weight rather than # of pounds compared to others. Also, you started at a lower weight to begin with. People lose at different rates. I've become a slow loser, but at least I'm still a loser. LOL! -
Getting closer to a decision
GradyCat replied to Zemi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too was worried about whether or not to have the surgery because I don't have a "hunger" problem but rather an emotional problem of eating when I'm upset. Plus I rarely ate food anyway, mostly just cookies and chocolate. But now after 4.5 months post-sleeve I can say that the surgery helped with those issues as well. I've learned to listen to my stomach and stop eating when it's full. I haven't done any emotional eating. I've lost 49 pounds. -
I had my sleeve in December and I've been in a stall for a month now. It's so depressing and it's driving me crazy because I'm exercising, getting my protein in, drinking water, and eating around 850 calories. I should be losing! Hang in there, we just have to let this stupid stubborn stall run its course.

I had a different surgery last year with braces on and it was no trouble.

Excessively long clear liquid phase
GradyCat replied to Brent701's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquids, albeit not clear liquids, for 3 weeks. Clear liquids just a day or two. -
Constipation Question
GradyCat replied to TG_is_losing_weight's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Have you tried mixing fiber in with your protein shakes? Luckily I haven't had this problem. I hope you find a solution. -
I'm using GNC brand soft-chews of Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Calcium, and a Multi=Vitamin. The surgeon said I can switch to pills now, but I'm kinda liking the soft chews so I think I'm going to stick with them.
-
Mine hasn't kicked in yet at 4.5 months, but I already had fine, thin hair anyway due to thyroid issues and heredity. I take biotin gummies everyday plus my soft chew vitamins.

That's great, good luck with your WLS journey.

Bring some Crystal Light (I don't know what kind of sugar it has) with you for the water. -
Is it possible to drink “to quickly”
GradyCat replied to PudgeBeGone's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If I drink too much water too quickly I get "water belly" -
Drinking water increases the amount of calories you burn, which is known as resting energy expenditure Drinking water before a meal reduces appetite. Because water is naturally calorie-free, it is generally linked with reduced calorie intake.

Eating Is a Chore
GradyCat replied to betterlate2019's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's going to take a while for you to get used to your new smaller stomach, so it's okay that you're not getting in all that food at this point. -
Rate of loss 0-6 months, and maximizing the honeymoon period
GradyCat replied to BypassBessie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've had to stop the comparison thing because I can't compete and it just makes me feel bad. I can only keep doing my best and keep doing what I'm doing and eventually that stupid scale is going to move downward some more. -
Today is the most tempting day of the year
GradyCat replied to IWuzaFatDuck's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My surgery was two weeks before Christmas, a month before my birthday, and 6 weeks before Valentine's Day. I passed up all the treats and stuck to my plan. Darn it! Hahaha -
I enjoyed scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, and sugar-free pudding during this phase
