I’m about same age as you. Athlete all my life. So why am I so fat? That’s for another thread at some point. Anyway, no diabetes, no pills nothing. The doctor said if he didn’t see me in person he would think from all my bloodwork and results he would picture in his head someone who looks like my parents or sister but not me. Sigh. Anyway, I was scheduled right away because I paid cash. I did a 7 day ore survey change. 5 days Protein Shakes with soy milk 3 per day and last two days I did just Water. After 3 days of the Protein shakes it was incredibly easy to drink water. I’m somewhat off protein shakes now lol. I had the surgery nov 14. I’m down 23.5 now. I’m totally pleased with my decision. I want to look like my brain feels. Eventually getting older and carrying this weight caught up so I felt like if I wanted any other life then sitting around I needed to do something. I had pain first few days. I did have band 4 years ago did well on it but it moved. So I decided to have it removed and have sleeve done. I started with sleeve at 256, I’m 233 today. I’m doing my sipping and my liquid purées Soups right now. Next week I start on outer foods. Good luck!

I haven't had that done but here's some advise since I am a health care worker. Set up as much as you can before hand. Get a wedge pillow so that you can sleep semi reclined. That will be easier to get in and out of bed without having to use your arms to push up. Be strict about using compression garments the doctor orders. Have things ie pots/pans sitting on the counter so you don't have to bend and reach for them. Go to the dollar store or shop Amazon and get a sponge on a stick and a reacher. I would also have a sturdy step stool so if you do need to reach something high you can stand on the step stool to avoid lifting your arms too much. Also get some button front shirts. You may want a step stool at the edge of your bed if it is high. That way you can stand against the bed and step onto the stool to get on the edge of the bed easier. If your legs are really sore you can use a long belt, scarf, or dog leash, the belt you put thru to make a tiny 10 inch waist- that's where you stick your foot thru the loop and you can use your arms to help slide your leg on the bed if needed. You could buy a leg lifter device but a belt works ok. I think it's better to have all of the modifications ready and if you don't need it great. Also if you use gallons of milk or Water, switch or have someone else pour them in smaller, lighter containers. I recommend getting the spray dry Shampoo since you won't be able to wash your hair for a while. Dove makes a good one. If you use a recliner with a lever put a piece of PVC pipe over the lever so it's easier to pull and recline the chair.

You are fine. See that is our mentality though. I do the same thing. I would mess up one day eating and self sabotage myself for. On the on end. “normal” eaters such as my roommate pig out one day and the next day they are back to normal. Your stomach will not stretch after just one over eating session. It’s like s niece right you have to work it out over time to get bigger. Don’t have remorse enjoy the delicious food, just tomorrow stay strong and move on!!

Weight lifting caused it to move? Wow... I like body weight training, but haven't weight training since I was on the swim team twenty years ago. I'll keep it in mind.

    Hello all!

I am 5 months out and a 100lbs down. I am honestly so grateful that I got the opportunity to have this operation done. I don’t miss my old life style at all, I now love the gym, I love my lean Protein and veggie meals, I love being able to shop anywhere without worrying about if they’ll carry my size, I love not worrying about taking up too much space on public transport, I love running about everywhere and not feeling the excess weight on my knees and feet.

Have I had bad days?? Of course! One day I ate an entire block of brie, another day I ate a slice of pizza. But the difference is now I don’t let my mistakes define. One bad meal isn’t going to get me back where I started. One bad meal isn’t the end of my journey. I accept it, and move on. Maybe i’ll move around even more the next day.

I have another 30lbs to go until I hit my goal weight, I will never ever ever be skinny, because i’m naturally curvy and you know what? That’s ok. I own these curves and i’m healthy and curvy!

I tried 4 days earlier the smallest bite of puréed foods, and I feel like I just ate a 48 cowboy steak. Still now 3 hours later. I’m thinking now I might have to wait longer for purée and stick to my very blended lentil soup......full

Hi! I went in for my 6th and final appointment on Tuesday and my doctor gave me the thumbs up to set a tentative surgery date also for 12/12! Just waiting for that insurance approval! I’m so excited!!

    Good luck to everyone! 😁

I started my pre-op diet on Tuesday. Its not a full liquid diet, I get to eat food with mine as well as three shakes a day. Its very carefully controlled on what I can eat and how much, 2 very specific frozen meals a day and small amounts of "approved" vegetables with two of my shakes. I'm very thankful for this as I think a pure liquid diet I would be going insane right about now.
11 days until surgery though, all of my pre-op stuff done, blood-work and nicotine test already came back and I am good to go.

Well I was a nicer person today, made and put in a baby ( 1 2/3 pound) meatloaf for Tomkitten . He's holding out hope I will eat one small slice with him. Couldn't find any regular Tomato sauce so dumped on tomato low- calorie Soup, figured basically close enough. A criss-cross of bacon on top, even if I can't eat any it will make the house smell nice. And if no meat, I can scoop some Tomato Soup off the sides and feel like I'm still in the loop. Was going to make scalloped potatoes but that was more my thing to eat than his. He would take a baked potato or some mashed . Don't have much desire for white potatoes, maybe sweet potatoes or winter squash? And as long as there is a green salad, there is joy in his ❤.

I think we all have to do what we have to do to get through holidays. One person's celebration, is another person's hell.
I look forward to being with family and celebrating seeing each other and having fun together. I am able to cook for others without eating that same stuff.
My fam all knew about my surgery--but they know it is private and something not to be discussed outside the fam. Last year I was eating very small amounts in preparation for surgery--trying to lose weight. This year, we will spend with my brother and his fam and he cooks with gobs of fat and carbs. LOL.
So my game plan is to bring their requested Friday dinn and bring my own turkey chili for me with a salad. And on Thanksgiving, I will have turkey, and some salad and a bite of his dressing and broccoli and be done with it.

I had my band installed before thanksgiving. I just pureed up some turkey, corn and potatoes with some gravy and it was good to go. Given your situation where you haven't told your family... you'll need to get creative. Good luck!
