LMAO! That sounds awful! My sense of smell is pretty sensitive so this is good to know! I can't stand the smell of my B-100 Vitamin and honestly couldn't begin to tell you what it equates with. Forget taking it with plain Water too, ick. Thanks for the info!

Ramen. Look, sometimes I just need some ramen in my life. It’s a tactile thing. This is one of my Asian food cheat days when I eat triangle kimbap and ramen. I will be bloated and logy tomorrow but I’m going in with eyes wide open. No scale tomorrow.

If you have any kind of sense of smell stay away from the Bariatric Advantage chewable. They smell like an actual peed in diaper that was left sitting out. Vomitous. The taste is not great and they are huge but the smell is the worst thing. I told the nutritionist and she said yeah I think they are gross too. I had some on my table laid out a few days post surgery (because my place said to get going on Vitamins right away) and my daughter sat next to me and said ew what is that smell, it smells like a pee diaper?! I could smell it on my fingers long after I chewed them. I still have a nearly full bottle and I'd rather lose the $ than open the bottle and smell it again.

Maybe middle ear Fluid, affects balance, not too far a stretch to nausea also. You're speaking to someone still on Zofran t.I.d. 8am, 4 pm 10om. Keeps Precious Pouch somewhat subdued. I am still fighting stricture/ ulceration wars, praying for a Good EGJ on January 25th. See my surgeon later today, still on monthly visits at 4 mo 10 days, so special I stink! And I wish I wasn't!😪😭💦

re: calcium - I actually take 2000 mg (500 mg 4x a day) because I have osteoporosis, but 1500 mg (500 mg 3x a day) is pretty standard for RNY patients. Don't forget - we don't absorb everything 100%, which is why we have to do things like take two Multivitamins a day, too - whereas most people just take one. So no, 1500 mg is probably not excessive for a WLS patient.

P.S. VSG patients don't have the same malabsorbtion issues that RNY patients do, but I think most of them are told to take 1500 mg a day, too.

Mind you, I'm just as green at reading this as you, BUT it does say:

Seems like the Water loading procedure is only for someone to start once they begin feeling the hunger pangs return to help create a sense of fullness. Under "Necessity for Longterm Followup" it says "trying to practice the rules of the pouch 6-12 months out is a waste" because the process is meant to help delay hunger. And you have to be slowly "watering" your pouch at least 3 hours before a full water load otherwise it won't work....this is SO weird! LOL

Same. I emailed it and messengered it to myself and then took screenshots just to make sure I don't lose this info.
Now just to make sure i am reading this right, this is info for after 6 months out? Is Water loading ok on a smaller scale for <6months? And if you aren't taking a Protein Shake or Protein milk in place of a meal, how the heck do you get the Protein Powder in during the early months? Especially since i am guilty of soft meals like low sugar yogurt or cottage cheese with pp mixed in as a nice meal (i am one week into month 3).

Yes! I was just about to post about never hearing about "water loading". This is truly interesting information. You really get the idea about how to use the surgery as a "tool" vs. just living with it and following "the rules". Knowing the "why" behind the rules is the most valuable thing I think I have read to date.

    Well done you!!
I have sat around 61.5 kg for a couple of months but after a good week of running, I must say I felt absurdly pleased this morning to have shed another 400g - because that means:
    I HAVE LOST 100 POUNDS!
I might be a bit OCD - that ‘99lbs lost’ was really irking me!

    Hello everyone!
So a lot less craziness in my life right now. I expect work to be significantly quieter until after the New Year. So that means more time for bs-ing here!
I'm not doing much IF, other than what comes naturally not being much of a morning eater. I'm still experimenting with eating as I please, and seeing what happens to the scale. So far so good, so I'm hopeful for my future in the maintenance phase. But still cautious about still being in the honeymoon phase, and having a lot of restriction, which may not always be the case.
    But ...
    I've lost 101 lbs!

Thank you so much for sharing this or re-posting. So much good stuff in there. And explanations for the things my nut said like spacing the meals. I love knowing the reason behind everything. I've never even heard of Water loading. I also never understood the reason behind the need to not drink 15 mins before eating so I might have been sloppy on that rule but "food soup" makes absolute sense.

Thank you for this candid post! I think I will start with the $2 starter kit from Walmart just to test it and if it works like yours did I’ll have a winner! I thought taking the daily stool softener would work but that has not been the case 😫. I have to rid the granite poo! This is my mission lol I am very glad we can have this discussion here as well! 😀😀😀

My first poop was more scary and more painful than delivering my first child. And I had no drugs and he had a big melon. Memories of my first poop give me more anxiety than the 2 kidney stones i have to get blasted soon. More pain than the last 6mm stone I passed with no drugs or medication. That's how much I feel your feels. I just bought the cheap glycerin suppositories at Walmart. It is around $4 for a ton of them or $2 for a starter bottle. You pop one in and watch TV or take a hot bath and 15-30 minutes later you have soft serve instead of icicle. That has alleviated a lot of my worries, knowing I dont ever have to granite poo again. (So glad this discussion isnt on fb and we can be totally candid!)

@sweettoothless thanks for the suggestion! I’ll have to look for that particular suppository. Yes this anxiety sucks so bad right now. It sometimes have me feeling like I wish I didn’t eat because I’m so worried about how is going to come out...you know painful or not. Smh

And I totally know what you mean by poop anxiety! I had no idea poo would be a worry so I wasn't prepared. Now I have the suppositories in every bathroom.

Use the glycerin suppositories. It softens up your poop so you aren't pooping granite. I use them a few times a week especially when eating meat. supplements and Protein Powder and lack of Fiber really jack up our systems. I tried colace but I like the faster moving of the glycerin suppository. I've used milk of magnesia a couple of times but it takes over night to work. I don't want to be on laxatives for life or for my butt to forget how to poo so I feel more comfortable with the glycerin, not that it is a joy sticking them up there. I'm only 2 1/4 months out of rny so I hope things work themself out.

I think it is good to keep in mind that even if you get a complication it will more than likely be just one and not the whole list of possible bad outcomes. And you can deal with it if it happens. I told myself I wouldn't worry about dumping unless it happened to me and then I would figure it out. And your surgeon has dealt with probably all possible complications so there will be a game plan. Just look at any complication as a hurdle. One you can jump with the right tools and support. So if you wind up being prone to dumping you figure out what triggers you and you stay away from it. And most hurdles get smaller as you heal. It gets easier to drink Water. You figure out the best way for you to get Protein in. Everyone is so different so there will be lots of advice available if you need it.

Yay! I also started taking 10,000mcg Biotin (Sports Research brand - same as the collagen). They apparently work together. The pill is TINY, about the size of a D3 capsule. Dude, I’m loading up now because I want to know I did everything I can to prevent Hair loss, brittle nails and saggy skin.
