I never craved spice before surgery but now I love it. I was eating Frank's Buffalo sauce on plain yogurt in the very early stages, I think puree stage. My surgeon and nut didn't caution me against it and didn't say a word when i told them i ate the yogurt/ hot sauce combo every day. And I didn't get any ulcers. I tolerate and want more spice now than i did before.

Surgery after RNY- no protein powder no vitamins???

Thank you. I think they drilled it in to my head successfully to make sure to always take my supplements so I was getting a little panicky about not taking them for this week. -
Surgery after RNY- no protein powder no vitamins???
Sweettoothless replied to Sweettoothless's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I already have. I get different opinions from everyone. I have my actual bariatric surgeon and also my new bariatric surgeon (because my insurance changed I see a new one for follow up care) and they have opposite opinions regarding protein powder in general. Old one says it is fine to use and new said omg don't use it at all, just eat meat. Due to kidney issues I can only eat 6oz of meat a day and my portions are still around 3/4 cup to 1 cup (depending on food) 3 times a day. The kidney surgeon suggested eating cauliflower for protein. I told him the protein wasn't high enough and he googled it in front of me and saw that you need to eat a full cup of cauliflower for 2g protein. I typically use the pp mixed in food or as a meal replacement not as added protein. I just wanted to hear if anyone else has experience with other surgeries after bypass. -
Horrible pain and discomfort
Sweettoothless replied to NIKKIBEVERLY's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Believe it or not I had this BEFORE my surgery but not a single time after. I ended up have a hernia pulling my stomach into my diaphragm that was only discovered during the bypass surgery. The thing that helped me (when I was home) was to do a few big hard jumps to shake the gob of food loose. Like I would just jump in the air and come down hard on my feet. The bites weren't even that big and I wouldn't know anything was stuck until I drank water. -

Also I had Anthem type of BCBS. And the turn around was really fast after the paperwork was submitted. -

No they required 6 monthly visits with pcp. I did one on April 30 and then the 6th one I did the first week of October to shave off a month. I was worried after the fact that they'd say that was only 5 months worth of visits but technically there were 6 actual visits each in a different month. I only needed 1 visit with the dietitian. And one psych eval. The glitch that caused it to take an extra couple of weeks was I had to prove my weight from the 2 years prior. I hadn't gone to the doctor during that time so I had to get my weight history from one of those scammy phentermine clinics I had gone to. I called them like 10 times and someone was always going to send the info and they never did. And the bariatric surgery place requested the info twice. Finally I drove to the phentermine clinic and begged the young reception guy to send the info. -

I did and it was pretty fast, I think a few days after everything was submitted. -
YES! I mentioned it to my urologist that I happened to be at. It is starting to hurt less. I was even sitting on an inflatable donut in the car and in a chair. I thought it was from hard poop trauma (before I started glycerin suppositories) and was embarrassed! It felt the same as the time many years ago I bruised it by falling hard. This time I didnt do anything. I did lose butt and foot fat before anything else (i'm almost 3 months in)

Oh bummer!

I take vitamin b drops once a week. I definitely feel a difference. There were a few times I got vitamin b shots at weight loss clinics and I never felt a thing with them. But the drops I forget about until around a week later when I feel overly tired then I take another dropperful. Idk if they are good or safe in the long run but i plan on asking the doctor next week.

ALMOST 5 MONTHS POST OP - STRUGGLING
Sweettoothless replied to shoregirl75's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Maybe you could have a mini-meal at night. Like a healthy one. Caffeine free spicy herbal tea with a splash of protein milk. Or hot mug of broth. Or a protein meal like cottage cheese. Or maybe just pick up a hobby you can do at night to stay out of the kitchen like crochet or something or reading in bed. -
(Sorry, I should have cropped that pic)

My husband had a gout attack that lasted months. None of the pills prescribed worked. Then a friend gave him one of his pills to try and it miraculously took the pain away right away. It was just an anti-inflammatory but like most meds different things work on different people. This pill is a miracle for my husband and now when he feels the slightest twinge he takes a one and no gout attack. Not saying this exact med will be magic for you but there might be something out there that works.

Thanks for that info. I am currently fighting my insurance company because I went to the ER with my first kidney stone on Tgiving. I was only a couple of weeks out of rny so I didnt know what was going on. Even throwing up small sips of water. They think it wasn't medically necessary and could have waited for an appt with my pcp 4 days later because of Tgiving weekend. Luckily I went to urgent care first and that doctor told me to go straight to the er and even called ahead and I skipped the line. If it wasn't for that I would be on the hook for the tens of thousands of dollars in er fees. Too big of a kidney stone that needs surgery as well but because they didnt do it right there on the spot my ins company is denying the claim.

One week post-op
Sweettoothless replied to ekstone86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will go away! And if it doesn't then you can have your micro-sized portion when you are at that food stage. -
That is awesome they are getting you in so fast! It took weeks for me and then I changed my insurance and had to wait weeks again. And the soonest surgery day is end of Feb. My fingers are crossed that my 6mm stone and my 1.5 cm stone can stay put until then.

How did your appointment go?

Me too. I have kidney and ovary problems right now and the doctor scale is always 2 poundsish heavier than my home scale so staying off of it helps me not to have that minute of being pissed at the doctors when it reads 2 pounds more than home and having to figure out my lightest weight clothes to wear to the doctors!

If I take multi-vitamins too late in the day they give me insomnia or "busy brain" where I can't relax. I am also really sensitive to caffeine so even a bit of chocolate will keep me awake. I love a hot bath with Epsom salt to get me drowsy.

Pureed Foods 1 week post op
Sweettoothless replied to LoveFood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You might need something more satisfying or something that "hits the spot" so look for ways to get the flavors you want. I used a dash of Frank's hot wing sauce on my plain yogurt and that really satisfied me and felt like real food. (Assuming you have no ulcers and it is just a dash of sauce.) -
Good job!

I've read that biotin helps and that biotin doesn't help and that collagen powder helps and that it doesn't help. I am trying collagen right now because someone posted a link saying the FDA has said high doses of biotin mess up your blood lab results.

i am not eating to much protein a day
Sweettoothless replied to mejsara's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was told that lack of protein would slow weightloss. Buy a flavorless protein powder and mix it into Fair Life brand milk. Fair Life brand milk has 13g of protein in one cup. And lower sugar. Or you can mix the protein powder into yogurt. Some brands have low sugar yogurt (I avoid the diet sugar yogurts because I hate the taste now). Your food portion should be tiny right now I think 1/4 cup so use a measuring cup to keep the portion controlled until you heal. If you cant tolerate milk you can even add protein powder to water. For sure drink more water so you can flush out the fat. Also, stalls and long stalls are normal just focus on healing and nourishing yourself. -
Let me know how it goes. A big thing I have noticed is how unfamiliar other doctors are with wls and how it works with other ailments like kidney stones. The ER told me to filter my pee but didn't give me a filter. About 4 days later my pcp gave me one. Looks like a plastic funnel with mesh at the end. I also bought a set of paper disposable filters I think people use to filter paint (I just searched kidney stone filters on amazon). Its crucial to catch the stone or stone fragments so they can see what it is made of and that will dictate your diet and how they can treat it.
