I’m almost two years post op with the gastric bypass. I’m down 120 pounds and feeling great! Surgery was the best decision I’ve ever made.

I had my bypass in December. Walking in the beginning was great but I love the gym more. Walking is a great form of excercise, it should not slow your progress at all. Good luck with your surgery and your new journey.

Thank you for that ! Most people on YouTube have horror stories so it was making me a bit nervous but I’ve been prepping for this for a long time so I’m hoping everything will turn out just fine. Thank you so much for replying !

NIKKIBEVERLY reacted to vic91218 in Is this hunger normal? I’m VERY worried
For anyone and everyone in the early stages worrying that their surgery didn’t take, or that it isn’t working for them, please slow down, and calmly take a nice breath. You are perfectly normal, and just like many many others on here that have shared similar experiences, the feelings of hunger after surgery aren’t uncommon. :) The liquid diet phase is usually two weeks. I was hungry during this period as well, and also had a whole lot of head hunger. liquids slipped right on through not creating any feeling of fullness really. The thing is, some people heal faster than others, and some experience more or less swelling than other people. When you’re reading posts with patients describing a hard time getting liquids down, it’s usually because their new stomachs are are still very much healing, and it’s taking it’s time, probably with some serious swelling. If you’re hungry, consider that your stomach is actually healing really well, and doing just fine!

The liquid / purée stages, from what I understand, are here to help our stomachs heal from surgery. That’s it. It’s not fun that liquids pass through your band, sleeve or pouch, but think of it as your stomach doing pretty well! Do not fret or worry. Purées and soft foods are next, and once you get past purées and onto more solid food, I assure you, at least according to most of the posts on this forum, you will feel new feelings of “full” and satisfied again. Just take your time and know that it’s coming! This is another hard part on our journey, but it’s worth it!! You’re worth it!! Let’s continue to heal up together and know that this will get better! 💪 😊

    Band Surgery 8/12/2008
    Weighed 425
    Sleeve Surgery 12/12/28
    Weighed 306

Two weeks post op from the sleeve, and currently weigh 292. Today was first day of purées. I do feel more restriction and full compared to liquids! I expect it will be much more pronounced after this with more solid food.

I use to think that wls was the easy way out until I started doing more research and my bmi was over 40. I think doctors don't bring it up because being obese is a big money maker in the medical field. The more you weigh more than likely you will suffer from different ailments that are costly. So why would they want you to lose weight super fast. They want that money coming in for a long time. I'm so glad my doctor approved my wls surgery but I'm kind of mad he didn't reccomend it in the first place..

Managed to get a shake down today. Went with the orange cream HPMR done in the magic bullet with some added ice. So happy it went down okay. Able to do about 4oz of Soup (blended to death) so I could actually have dinner with my family. Things are looking up!
We got this you guys! 2019 is going to be our year!

Ok people have talked about this before, but I wanted to share or put my 2 cents and my experience in. I'm past 8 months, 253 days post op to be exact. I wasn't a huge drinker but when I drank it was usually more than 2 drinks, so the long and short of it was I always got a hefty buzz or drunk, but I never drank unless I went out so I didn't see it as a "problem". But it was classic binge drinking when I did drink.
Post surgery- after my ok to drink , I had some wine, first glass I didn't get drunk any faster, halfway through second I could be good but since we can't eat AND drink then why ruin my buzz, right? I eat well, I drink my Water, I quit smoking, so I'd have some wine on the weekends (not normal for me) weekends turned into many days of the week, then every night. I've lost 104 now, I was still losing when I drank because I ate very little and I only drank wine. (I'm NOT glorifying any of this) With bariatric surgery I don't think there's a ok 2 glasses and I'm ok (as in not too drunk/tipsy, etc) . Pour that third glass and I was zero to 💯 and for me I would be drunk a lot longer.
Alcoholism is huge in my family, why I thought having a few glasses of wine all the time was a good idea, maybe it filled the void. I tried to rationalize it with myself that because I couldn't eat and couldn't smoke anymore that having a few glasses was ok. I've been in therapy for food addiction, he said this isn't really transfer addiction because I didn't really have true food addiction.
I guess I'm posting this for anyone who asks about drinking and if you have a history of any addiction or alcoholism in the family I would be cautious of alcohol. I should've known, thought about it more, but now I carry a chip from AA in my pocket everyday. I had a problem binge drinking before surgery, and yes you can be an alcoholic even if you don't drink that much, with me I drank to be buzzed or to get drunk.
Im not posting this to be policed about the calories in wine or how it halts weight loss or to be bullied for making a poor choice. I'm posting this in the hopes that someone may read it who may be like me and start drinking a lot, or if someone is in recovery and wants to talk. If you do decide drink, be careful, it stayed in my bloodstream for a long time.

    9 pounds until goal!!!

Edited to add - I know my ticker says 19 pounds to goal, but I think 140 will be too small for me. so I am choosing 150 as my goal But man, what a difference! Loving my new life. I think 50 looks pretty good on me!

I don't think your taking in enough protein. I had the bypass also and my protein intake is 60mg of protein and 64 oz of liquids per day. I had my surgery on the 3rd and I've lost around 25 lbs so far.

I absolutely without a doubt never thought I was going to fail.
I believe in the idea of self-fulfilling prophecy. I believe you can shape your life with the thoughts you focus mostly towards.
I believe when I am on mostly a positive goal oriented path, I open myself to the possibilities that will get me to those goals and unfortunately vice versa.
I will not fail myself ever again. Instead, I will rework, revise, rest, refocus, regroup, reaccess and return to the path, moving foward towards whatever goals I set. My hope is for everyone to have a similar belief in their (anticipated) success!!!
