Thanks Goody! I was thinking so also, but it’s hard to get outside of yourself sometimes.

People around you must be too shy?! You look amazing and definitely/obviously smaller! I run into folks on campus (hospital) and am asked all the time if I’m ok & followed up with you’re losing weight so hence not being to upset about darn scale progress. You’re (even hotter) Hottie in the making👍🏽

You might be right on the whole muscle thing.
I forgot to mention earlier that I worked with my instructor today and was able to do a plank on my reformer! Very empowering strength move and I’m glad I kept trying it.

Hubs and I are also planning a different kind of vacation.
Funny how the focus isn’t on the food as much as it will be about the activities.
We are going to Colorado Springs this June and I booked an Airbnb instead of hotel because I want a kitchen and an outdoor grill so we can eat like we normally do now post-surgery.

I’m doing things like looking at paddle boarding lessons, guided day long nature hikes and mountain yoga classes -most def not what I would’ve been looking at a year ago.
Who would’ve thought I would start to become that annoying fitness person who doesn’t care much about food and wants to go out of her way to find physical activity?

    Weird

Gotta and Sheribear, sleeve siblings, we are so much alike! I get compliments about losing weight BUT I only lose a pound a week if I’m lucky (since week 4)? The scale not my friend but I’ll use measuring tape instead. Keep it up. You’re an inspiration.

Bulgogi- is that the Korean BBQ/grilled beef? If it is, it sounds luscious. Did you get it as restaurant food @SleevednowAK or was it homemade? I usually enjoy Oriental-type things, haven't done any restaurant- ing since my surgery., Weird isn't it, I no longer have. a raging appetite but a lot of things sound so good in theory!
Felt a little sorry for the Bari- pal the other day for trying to sneak a Reeses Peanut Butter Egg. One bite, said it tasted like Yucky, that bite and the rest of the Egg, right into the trash! Guess that means I'm better off not listening to Brain Prompts!😝🍛🍷🍜

Yes, Korean bbq😋. Had a lunch group meeting at a sushi house that offered bento boxes and it was the softest meat option and without having to explain why not eating sushi since many knew I cut out rice from my meals (packed most of it to go for husband to enjoy). Cravings are insane but spot on about it being mainly mental. Had a craving for frozen yogurt and after a couple tablespoons, lost interest. Bummer yet a win?! Wont complain.

Group--what are you thoughts on sugar-free candy? For the past several weeks I have had about 4 to 5 sugar-free hard candies during the day. I know they contain sugar alcohols and I am wondering if any of your NUTs have advised against them. They satisfy me between meals and when I feel like I want to eat out of boredom (not hunger). They are a quick fix for me in these situations. I have no issue with a laxative effect as I'm only eating a few. Thoughts?

Haven’t tried sugar-free candies but my NUT has supported sugar-free Snacks after daily Protein goal achieved so why not sugar free candy is my thought? With allergy season here, I’ve had 2-3 cough/throat drops daily the past few days and likely will continue over next few more days.

Thanks for sharing. I can't believe how much I've been discussing my bodily functions with my family since the surgery. I have yet to have "southern dumping" but I've had the nausea and dry heaving and yes, the profuse sweating. Not fun! I would start off with a white, flaky fish. I have had tilapia a few times (just a few bites) and had no problem. Has anyone had steak yet (very tender, like filet)? If so, did it stay down?

Hahaha. I know exactly what you mean! Haven’t had steak per say...Does bulgogi count? I had some. It was very tender but still required decent amount of chewing.

I just went to the nutritionist yesterday for 8 week post op. In my program I cna now begin veggies. They suggest cooked initally then a few dyas later try that vegetable raw. She said lettuce esp. ice berg is the last thing to try. I guess the strings in it cna cause issues. She also siad that can happen with celery and asparagus. I had cooked spinach without issue but I wont tyr it raw for a few more weeks. Was this the first time you had lettuce?

It was first salad & before 7 weeks postop. Thank you! I will wait til 3 months post before next salad.

And for me salad was the most refreshing delicious thing I have eaten. I just had it this week for the first time. We are all so different so I guess until we try things we’re not going to know. But I am so thankful that for me so far I haven’t been sick at all. I have had a couple of incidents where my food felt stuck which is very painful. I hope it goes better for you soon.

Thank you!!! Stuck is the right way to describe my evening full of abdominal cramping. Yes, stuck. I really really hope postop 3 months that my tummy is stronger.

Now I'm super afraid to try salad! What were the symptoms of your reaction/dumping?

I’d hate to be too specific but the southern dumping for me was painful stomach cramping that is very similar to when you have a stomach bug/really have to go but are stuck in traffic kind of misery. I was sweating bullets, in tears at some points and needed to stay near my bathroom to on safe side rest of the evening. Since surgery, I’ve only experience vomiting dumping once after eating baked mahi mahi tuna. I barely could vomit and there was dry heaving but I’d take that over the other end any day. Forgive me Feb buddies if my description is too graphic. I’m really worried I won’t be able to enjoy my favorites (Alaska raised) like halibut or copper river red salmon😩.....too afraid to even try any fish at this point and now I’m going to add salad to the “forbidden” list. At least until 3 full months postop.

Sleeved- I’ve never heard of anyone dumping on greens. Did the dressing have sugars?

Some but I don’t think more than 2-3 grams since it was a small amount of salad and even less dressing needed. I am supposed to stick a soft diet so I just assumed it was the salad. Nothing else out of daily norm-2 Protein Shakes and chicken but yesterday chicken was in my salad. Like Sheri, the scale doesn’t move for me much but I’m glad my clothes are looser or I’d be depressed. Hit my minimum 10K steps goal well enough too. Dora/Ellen’s ‘Just keep swimming’ chants all day long.

  10. Had a really bad first experience of dumping. Now I totally get the comments that it feels like dying. I may not have read far back enough for similar triggers but I’m pretty sure it was because I ate about a cup and half of salad (split into two meals, 2/3 for lunch and 2/3 for dinner) since I didn't eat anything too sugary or high in fat? The dressing was a vinaigrette? When will salad be ok if ever? This is postop week 6 plus 3 days.

    Sounds like a good plan.
Well my daily weighing for this week is paying off.
Got on the scale and had another 0.8 pound loss for a total of 2 whole pounds since Monday!
Wow, this is the most I’ve lost since the first 2 weeks.
I’m completely psyched now and drinking Water like a maniac again
Wow..... if I keep this up I might actually have a week where OVER 3 whole pounds drop off!!!!!!

Lol, I know that number seems teeny to some of you guys who are losing like rock stars, but I’m cursed with extremely slooooooooow progresss.

You and I are on the boat! I’ve been the same weight up and down within the same pound for 3 weeks. Finally today I weighed a pound less (since week 3!) but my progress has been noticeable in measurements so I won’t complain too much. I hope I make onederland by my birthday next mid-month. 12.5 pounds to go.....

I am sooo scared that I won't lose any weight at all .......... I have to take a cocktail of drugs for a neurological condition - which started my weight gain in the first place !!! That would be my worst nightmare - to go through surgery and gain nothing ........

Don’t let fear stop you from achieving a goal :) I can’t speak to the neuro medications but since my sleeve, I’ve rarely needed to take my prescribed meds. Only 1 which I will do daily in the AM is for postop stomach health.

Has anyone recognized their temperament has changed. I tend t be bothered easier or might make a snappy comment. I cannot say that I miss food that much, but if feels like the adjustment from 40 years of eating can be challenging.

Absolutely! I do my best not to snap back but when I’m being offered something and I politley decline but they persist, I often picture in my mind throwing the offer onto the ground and stomping on it until its pulverized. The image is statisfying. Goodness, the cruise did a number on me. Need to meditate.

  14. I spent my entire week 3 post-op on a family reunion, planned since 2017, cruise and boy oh boy was I challenged. food everywhere with 24/7 availability even room service. I’ve read alot of your posts about making proper food choices and the struggles with knowing when full which really helped me get through last week. My husband was supportive to help me keep up the charade (none of other family members know) by putting food he’d eat onto my plate while I kept to mainly my soft Protein based options. He was sneaky and ate from my plate as well (grateful he’s got a high metabolism and works out daily). Thank you everyone for sharing your stories! I feel guilty for only losing 1 lb in week 3 even though was very conscientious about my food portion but know I should not have taken a bite of dessert every evening just to look “normal”. Tomorrow is week 4 anniversary from 2/18 sleeve. I hope to be better off than this past week.

Back to work tomorrow for me. Let’s see how this goes. Looking forward to this, but a little anxious

Marine, I found that standing helped when I felt abdominal pressure or ‘pull’. Also, easy does it on any weighted lifting and twisting motions. Although I managed returning to work last Monday, I wished I’d taken whole two weeks to recoop.

I had my surgery 2/25 and had no appetite until 2 evenings ago. No interest in anything. Everything tasted bad/different. The past 3 nights I have had 1 cup of chicken broth. I sip it, but probably do in 10 minutes. It goes down so easy. I was absolutely starving last night and it did the trick. Hope I'm ok too, because it didn't restrict at all.

Thank you gabybab! I am relieved. For a minute I thought I’d already began to fail in under two weeks.

  17. Op date 2/18. Anyone else feeling concerned they’re able consume more than a sleeved stomach ought to hold? I was able to finish a cup of broth in 20 minutes, I was enjoying it so much to realize how quickly it disappeared. How long postop have others experienced more thab 2 oz every 15 minutes been was no longer uncomfortable?

  18. I returned to work yesterday. I just had my sleeve last Monday (my Dr would be livid but he didn’t specifically instruct me of how much time to take off). It was seriously a rough day but today, a little better. Sticking to my meal plan was far more harder being at work than I anticipated. I mentally give myself a pep talk to stay the course even though anything more than a few gulps would be painful. Any suggestions/tricks for those of you further postop with ‘keeping it real’ and keeping on track?

Hi, Marine. My major problem on the pre-op liquid diet has been that it's all sweet and I crave something savory. I've been having chicken broth every day at around dinnertime, and that has made a big difference.

Agree! chicken or beef broth have made post-op dining lately so much more bearable. I still aim for Protein goals first and foremost but once I’ve taken in at least 40grams I dont feel too guilty sipping a little broth come dinner time.
